I actually managed this - I had them all go in with Invisibility 10' radius, had given Imoen a Strength potion, Haste, and an Invisibility potion in her inventory.  She backstabbed the head cleric (forgot her name - the one that summons the demon), Imoen chugged the invisibility potion before she turned around, so her dialogue never kicked in, and then Imoen backstabbed her again = death.  No demon.

The trouble is, the developers never thought this could happen.  She doesn't have the dagger on her corpse, nor is it laying anywhere around.  I tried consoling it in, but the dwarf doesn't recognize it - he just keeps telling me to hurry up and stop those cultists (even though I killed every last one of them).  Sigh.  I guess I'll have to go back and let them summon the demon so I can banish it back to where it came from...  Even though it seems overly hard for the game at this point (Even Melessan can't turn the whole party into ghasts permanently).

Anyone else had this happen?  I'd thought to just use Shadowkeeper to give my party the experience points for the quest (not the demon-killing, just the quest), but I can't find how many it grants (if any).  Anyone happen to know?

Incidentally, while I can still google the old forums, they don't appear to be up any longer.  My bookmark even only takes me to Bioware's front page.

Edit:  maybe I still spelled his name wrong ...

Yeah, the old forums are down, at last. I lost all the good smileys along with them. One of these days I'll have to either make peace with the new ones, or else file a complaint to Bioware (but there'd be more urgent matters than smileys that'd need their attention, I guess).
Sorry I can't help you with your actual problem though.

Sorry, Carinna, no idea how much xp you get from Aec'letec. Problem is, you can't return the dagger to the dwarf anyway. He'll only acknowledge you've completed the quest line when you kill the demon.

If you have problems with Aec'letec i suggest using a Wand of Paralyzation (can be bought in the Sorcerous Sundries). The game autosaves when you descend the stairs. Sooner or later he'll fail his save and you can chop him up at your leisure. If he makes his save, just reload the autosave.

If you think that's too cheesy: Potions of Mirrored eyes will protect you against his Death Gaze. It can also quite easily be dispelled.

Cloudkill Aec'Letec. 'Insta no-demon.'

Just make sure you take out everyone else first or you'll be up to your elbows in Aec'Letecs.
