It's a tough call but I thought the ME1 smile looked a bit better than the ME2 smiles, dont you think:

It's far from perfect but at least he squints his eyes a little there.

Yeah I recently ended an adept playthrough, and I have to say that the smiling animations, were better.

...Just to list a view.. I have quite a few in my album on the BSN that I posted a little while back just to point out specifically the fact that there are some good smiles

Got to say, these are some nice smiles right there.
Hm, I guess it has to do a lot with the lighting, ange, etc. in the scene as well. Looks like they can do it, they just have to get it right for ME3.
