Udina the "true" human councillor?

"A scouting mission can be done at any time..."
Jesus, you really typed that and didn't laugh at yourself? I hope you're trolling. That's just about the most ridiculous thing I've heard on these boards. You clearly don't even understand what the purpose of scouting and intelligence in general are. Ignoring your chosen soldier and military advisor when they tell you a single-ship mission is necessary is outright reckless. Every military decision we've seen the Council make has been a bad one, and he's gone along with them.
As for it being sane to ignore the risk of galactic extinction, given the strong evidence of previous extinguished civilizations, even in ME1, that's just "idiot ball" material. Anyone who lived in the ME universe and was aware of it's archaeology should have been highly suspicious. If not for Reapers, then for "berserker" probes and the like.

Oh, Dean, you'll really Devil's Advocate anything at all, won't you, no matter how ludicrous it is?

Yes, scouting is a priority, but it is one of many priorities for any military or government. It can be delayed, and does fall amongst other concerns as well. Scouting is only the priority in so much that it is time critical. When it is not time critical, it can and properly should be pushed behind other priorities. Like all competing priorities, scouting must justify itself when mutually exclusive to other contexts.
And it may just be that I learned such from an individual who I make no insult when I say mostl ikely has more decades in scouting, reconaissance, and intel-gathering than you or I combined.
Except Anderson and Shepard are neither the only soldiers or military advisors available to the Council or Udina, nor do Anderson or Shepard give a valid reason why the Ilos mission needs to be immediate.Ignoring your chosen soldier and military advisor when they tell you a single-ship mission is necessary is outright reckless
Taking someone's position solely on the basis of their profession is a logical fallacy. Even professionals need to be able to justify a decision by other reasons.
Yet the Council remains the dominant political, economic, and most importantly most successful military force in the galaxy. Moreover, we also know quite well that we do not see every decision the Council makes, or all the other factors as to why they do.Every military decision we've seen the Council make has been a bad one, and he's gone along with them.
Not, mind you, that every decision the Council has been a bad one even when it doesn't go our way.
Congratulations, then: your juggling that ball yourself. You neither understand the limitation of defense, an understanding older than the Art of War, nor do you recognize your own hindsight fallacies. As for it being sane to ignore the risk of galactic extinction, given the strong evidence of previous extinguished civilizations, even in ME1, that's just "idiot ball" material. Udina being councilor is canon. Anderson steps do as councilor in Retribution.
He abandons his postion, and puts Udina in control, he doesn't officially step down but he makes it pretty obvious that he has no desire to be Councilor in Retribution.

Anderson was never Councilor to begin with in Retribution. Anderson's comments are nearly identical to what he says if Admiral in ME2.Slidell505 wrote...
