How long has it been that a game made you eagerly await its release like a little school boy waiting to brag to your friends? Its been years for me. Maybe I'm just grown out of most things but this game brought that feeling back. This may be the only game that will ever be better than Base Wars. Ahhh, chainsaw weilding baseball robots....those were the days
For you old gamers

I'm pretty interested in Tropico 4, Dead State, the new Bioshock, and the new Thief.
The last game that really had me waiting though? It sadly was ME2, which did not end well, before that it was Fallout 3 until Bethseda announced that they make one game, and one game only, and it's a FPP, real time, player skill based Shooter type game, and *every* game should be made like that. Stupidest dev quote ever goes to Bethseda's art department lamenting that Starcraft 2 wouldn't be FPP.

I haven't geeked out over a new release in years. I'm interested in some new games coming up, but that interest is limited pretty much to watching videos of and about them only if someone posts a link. I've been gaming for like...a seriously long time, and I just feel like I've seen everything and nothing really new or exciting is happening. It's really incredibly, painfully obvious to me how formulaic the game industry is becoming, and it frustrates me when younger folks can't see it, because things are still new to them. Pretty jaded I guess.
Edit: lol Base Wars. OP and I are on the same page. I used to completely abuse my friends with that game.

Well, I've been gaming for 15 years or so. I started young; about 9 or 10. While I don't consider myself old, compared to most that frequent this forum; I probably am. They really have no concept of the road to mediocrity the games industry is heading. Every series of games I’ve ever been interested in seem to become more “streamlined” to be more “cinematic” with every subsequent release. In answer to your question: no; those days are long gone for me, too many disappointments. There are games I'm interested in, but genuine "I Can't wait!!" excitement, nah.

The last time I was this stoked about a game, it was Privateer. Privateer took place in the Wing Commander universe and that game rocked. But I would have to say that Mass Effect 3 has me on tenterhooks. The E3 videos, the press, and comments by BioWare all heighten the desire to play the game.
While disappointing, I am happy that BioWare decided to push back the release date of the game. I expect a lot out of BW and of ME3 and I don't want to be frustrated by a game that is below snuff. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from a previous game that suffered that fate.

Not sure whats defined as "old" but I'm 24 now...and I sure feel old.
ME2 was probably the last game I "geeked" out over. But right now I'm checking up on ME3, SWTOR and Skyrim with regularity, so you could probably say I'm eagerly awaiting each of those games releases. Out of those, ME3 and SWTOR are likely instant purchases for me as I have too much love for each of the preceding games to not fork over the coin...Skyrim I'll wait and see. Oblivion was a good game, but in my view it just doesnt hold a candle to Morrowind, which I still play every now and then.

I'd call a gamer old if he's >26. And very old if 30+.

My first RPG, and one of the first games I ever actually played, was Ultima 3. Guess that puts me under "very old"

Totally, nice Base Wars reference. The laser sword was merciless.
That said, this is for sure the most I have geeked over a game since when I was a kid. I got into the game late as well, just having played both ME games for the first time this year, and several subsequent times since. If pressed, Id say the last game I was so jacked up about was Dragon Warrior IV.

I'm in the former category moving towards the latter!
Well, I tend to fawn over games of my particular genres.
For this series, I got Mass Effect due to its high acclaim and I did enjoy it - the same with ME2 and ME3; however, you may say I have a case of sequel-itis because I am a franchise gamer regardless if I have every game in that franchise.
However, the downside to this is when a game is NOT what you expected and I've gotten my share of those as well. Most of these aren't of the franchise variety though.

I remember peeing my pants over Baldur's Gate 2, buying it at a ridiculous price the day it came out and installing it on my pathetic 2.5gb hard drive.
Mass Effect 3 is the first since then that I actually sit up and pay attention the moment a tiny scrap of news appears.
I wasn't even half this excited about the new Fallout, Dead Space, Elder Scrolls and Bioshock games :-S and waited for all of them to hit budget price before I bought them.

I have never been this stoked for a game in my life and I've been playing video games since Pong. The only other thing that made me this giddy was waiting for Episode III:Revenge of the Sith. And I knew about that nine years before it was released.

let's see
Mass Effect is the facto the game I have replayed more than any other game in my gamer history, iot is the one game I ALWAYS suggest to my friends and yes my MSN addy has a Shepard quote in it, my smartphone BG and my desktop are both ME3 wallpapers.....
yeah.......no other game compares honestly, well, not in its entirety. I might love other games and think some of their features surpass the ME equivalent but as a whole ME is the serie ANY other game has to measure up to for me

@Whatever666343431431654324 - Depends on how you classify "old gamers" whether by physical age or length of time playing games. For instance I am 26 which isn't old but I have been playing games for over 20 years as I started as soon as I could pick up a controller so I have seen pretty much everything over the years. I agree with marshalleck that as the gaming industry becomes more mainstream most games are becoming too formulaic.
As for the last game I eagerly awaited; that would be ME1 everything else has been "looks cool add to list"

For all this talk of how "streamlined" and "mainstream" the game industry has been heading, there's been a great deal of improvement in so many areas.
The amount of people who have video games as entertainment has exponentially exploded, it's like any medium. You have action movies like Batman: Dark Knight and then you have action movies like Michael Bay's "The Island".
Sure it's easy to look back on the "glory days" but the cost of creating video games is astronomical these days, where you have actual cinematic designers, and so many complicated levels of gameplay that involve even longer sessions of Q+A, rather than just a team of 12 people. Whole soundtracks are made with orchestra arrangements, not just simple midi files. Instead of just a sprite of a face, and a blurb of text, there's entire digital acting scenes, like on Eden Prime, seeing Ashley talk about losing her squad.
As dear to my heart older games are, there are plenty of newer games that simply magnificent in presentation, like the Prologue of The Witcher 2, or Portal 2, or Starcraft 2. (lots of 2's
)
Having a larger pond will always mean that the level of mediocrity rises, because it's always in proportion. Back during the Nintendo days, there's thousands of titles that are so incredibly forgettable, with few redeeming qualities at all.
That said, one of the games that I was most excited for was Saga Frontier. That, and Xenogears. (NOT Xenosaga)

I am 31 but when it comes to gaming I am kind of young in that department. Sure I played nintendo as a kid but lost interest in that and video games as I got older and I had no interest in gaming during my teenage years. Wasn't really into gaming with the exception being Sim City 3000 that I played on my computer from time to time. That changed when I was 24-25ish and decided to pick up an original xbox and back then I did it mainly for the sports games (NCAA football, Madden, NBA 2k series etc...) but being a Star Wars nerd I decided to pick up KOTOR and well I think you can imagine what happened after that.
But to answer the OP's question I would have to say it was ME 2, sure there are other games that have had me excited but ME 2 I was like a little kid at christmas time excitement. I imagine I will have a similar excitement for ME 3 and for Skyrim as well.
