This happens to me with every Zelda game, handheld or console, since the very first game. I remember the build up to Twilight Princess more recently as one of the last times I was excited to an epic degree, particularly as I got the game on Christmas day (a similar thing happened with KotOR 1 a few years before).

Other than that, in recent years games that have gotten me that excited include Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age 2, Oblivion, KotOR 2, and erm can't think of any others offhand to be honest.

Currently looking forward eagerly to a whole bunch naturally, such as Skyrim, Skyward Sword, Sky Effect 3, Sky Old Republic... Wait what?

This hyped... that goes way back.

Edit: Nope, it doesn't, it was ME2.

I was pretty interested about StarCraft 2 though (and it turned out to be a good game in my book). Before that... Homeworld 2 (Weren't as good as the first one IMO) X-Com 3 (that was pretty good once you realised that game economy, if not broken, is not working very well and the best way to play the game is to cheat lots of money.)

But then, it goes back to SSI "Gold Box" games like Pool of Radiance and games that were set in Krynn. Death Knights of Krynn was my favourite IIRC.

Edit:

I've been burned one to many times by something I was eagerly waiting for for me to get hyped often. The last game I got hyped for was 4e D&D, and yeah I got burned there. It is my least favorite edition and I've been playing D&D through all of the editions. Though I did play them out of order, I played got the 3rd version of D&D magenta box, then OD&D, then AD&D, then 2nd version of D&D, then I went in order getting both D&D and AD&D at the same time.

So not mega hyped for ME3.

I remember getting all stoked up for ME2, enjoyed it, and now waiting for ME3. ME3 is pretty much the only game "I can't wait for". It is the story, characters, choices, combat, and LI, that make BW games a big draw for me.

Other games coming soon look good too, but those I can wait for.

A gamer is old if they're over 30? hahaha. I guess I'm ancient.

ME 3, I guess. Not a lot of games these days. Fallout 3 and ME2 were probably the last ones before that. Maybe one or two a year, usually whatever Bioware is putting out. I'm less enthusiastic about this one after the disaster of DA2. I didn't hate it like some did, but it wasn't Bioware good, so I'm more cautious about ME3 hopes.

Haha, great read this thread. I'm 27 and i dont feel old at all!

Awesum to see people mention 486 and Amiga.. i had so many games on that one.. always flippin through the floppys.. "what game should i play next"  :D

But ontopic, i never was excited about upcomming games because i wouldn't know about them before they got released.. with internet not beeing around and all..
I did, later on, get really excited about Half Life 2 though.. That physics demo was insane!!

And i saw people mention the decline of quality gaming.. i totally know what you mean. I'm not talking about the great motion captured animations and all the new types of ingame rendering..
It's how "dumbed" down everything gets.. so that "everyone" can play them <_<

I am excited about ME3 and allot of other part 3 games BF3, Uncharted 3 and the third Deus Ex :o

After being a gamer since 1984, back when I was 5, I've found it's hard to be excited for a game when there is so much of the same tired thing being churned out and so few of anything else.

I am interested in Saint's Row 3, Skyrim and Dead Island, with an interested in ME3 though I have my doubts on it being any good if it's rushed out and has some kind of slapped on multi player/co-op mode to cater to the COD/Halo crowd.
But excited? No.

The last game i was this excited about was GTA san andreas...thats the first time i ever stood in a midnight gamestop release line. ME3 is the only game i cant wait for, I didnt even get into the mass effect franchise until months after ME2 came out.

I'll be 40 in a few days. I remember when I wished I could play the cover art on Atari cartridges. That dream has come true thanks to Bioware.

My excitement has waned in terms of being unable to wait. But, I am a day 1 buyer of games like ME, Obliviion, Halo, CoD, or Bioshock, etc.

I'm 32 and I remember how long I waited for Warhammer Online to come out. Being a huge warhammer-fan I was really excited about the game. Then I played it and realised I'd been conned.

Now I can't wait for the release of Star Wars the old republic and Mass Effect 3:O

Very old gamer here as well. Becoming too busy to play nowadays.

Despite that ME1 was the best game I have ever played. That game had a story that truly wowed me. Despite not being the game it promised to be (ref: "Distress call from Noveria" trailer and the "Signal lost / SOS" ads in the magazines.) .
Now that was a game I was eagerly anticipating. And then again for ME2.

But I will probably not play SWTOR. Not because I don't anticipate it, but because I won't have time to commit to an MMO anymore. ME3 will probably be my last game for a while.

The last game was Dragon Age 2, let's just say it wasn't what I expected and the last game before that was Terranigma for the SNES. It's been a while... I try to keep my expectations low, but ME3 looks promising enough and I love ME and ME2 so yeah, I'm waiting for it but not as jumpy as I did for DA2.

I'm 32 and the last game I was really excited about was Red Alert 3, (which didn't turn out to be as good as C&C3 which came before it). I wasn't excited about ME1 beforehand because I wasn't aware of it (found it in a bargain bin) and ME2 I didn't really follow because I was doing other stuff (still ended getting the CE though)

The oldest game I can remember being that excited about was probably Final Fantasy 1 on NES. I had gotten a Nintendo Power straegy guide for it before it came out (they sent it to me for no apparent reason) and by the time I got the game I had already pretty much mastered it and just couldn't wait to play it. From my 11yo world it was just like staring into space your whole life then finally getting to go there.

Some other notable games I highly anticipated were...

-Wing Commander 3/4/Privateer
-Street Fighter 2
-Star Control 2
-C&C Red Alert
-Homeworld Cataclysm

Oh and the oldest game I can remember being in love with; Radar Rat Race on the Commodore VIC-20.

Most anticipation? I can´t remember.. too long ago... ^^

Wing Commander 3 was certainly a long wait, and it was very cool. Nowadays the shortcut "WC3" has been highjacked by Blizzard... -.-

I was waiting very long for Dragon Age:Origins, but it did not live up to the hype around it, and certainly not to my expectations.

Besides that, I think the anticipation for ME2 was one of my highest, as was the satisfaction of playing it. ME2 certainly lived up to most of its hype, thanks to the classes´ awesome signature powers mainly.

Other than that, I was too busy to anticipate anything while playing all those wonderful games.^^

ME3 will be out one month after I have become a daddy. So much for old gamers. No more locking into a room for a weekend to enjoy a fantastic game, sadly. But I am told having your own children is worth every inconvenience... ;)

Yes you almost can. Sometimes the wife and child are asleep at a descent hour and that's when dad can slip away to play some. Sometime you just have to work for it a little.

I'm excited about Mass Effect 3, the Deus ex: Human Revolution and Skyrim. It's unfortunate so many games now a days are FPS's, one reason games like portal are so refreshing to me.

Anyway, I was stoked for Kotor 2 like mad. Same with Mass Effect 2. The former was slightly dissapointing, the latter exceeded most expectations.

Thats what I've been telling myself for the past two years :)
Sleepin' 5 hours a day coz I gotta check all the messages, boards, BSN and maybe play something for an hour or two. And then the lack of sleep catches up with you, mostly at work, when you try a renegade iterrupt while your boss is trying to explain to you why he's not happy with your work...

The first few months forget about it. But once they start sleeping through the night, you can find the time to game on. Yes, from experience. An hour or two here and there add up.

I guess I'm old then, I still have very fond memories of Bards Tale and the first Might & Magic games.

I've always liked the freedom in Bethesda's games, so I'm always excited about those, I loved Daggerfall even though I kept falling through the floor all the time lol, it was ambitious and they've kept on that route, unlike most.

Seeing as this series is meant for 17+, most everyone who plays Mass Effect is already considered old, yet young at heart. I think that old is anywhere around 20 to 28 and geezer is 40 these days. Either way, I'm in college and know all sorts of people who still play games that seem to be meant for kids, so age doesn't always matter with gaming.

But but, isn't 40 to new 30 or some such. I just hit geezer? Damn, thought 40 was middle aged, missed my crises I guess. I thought geezer was 80? Perspective I guess. :)

*Shakes Fist* Get off my damn lawn you kids! :P
Guess since I qualify as a geezer, I need to bring my belt to my underarm pits.

As for me being excited, I've gotten burnt a few too many times to go stir crazy for any game. Did Pre-order but it'll be here when it gets here.
