So after the fateful encounter in the Deep Roads and getting thrown in jail, while Harrowmont is about to throw you out of the city... does anyone know how high the Persuade/Lie check is to convince Harrowmont you didn't kill Trian even if you did? I've been trying to get the Fine Dwarven Blade from him for a bit now while still killing Trian myself, but I'm not having any luck.
I've already got Coercion 1 and I've had up to 12 Cunning in addition to that so far. Hoping I won't need to put too many more points into it, since I'm only able to get to level 2 before that point as a Warrior.

Can't answer your question about the Lie/Persuade check, but it is possible to kill Trian and get the fine longsword. Either that or my game's glitched.
Can you try this: choose any option other than 'stay silent' for the first part of the dialogue. Then click 'Trian attacked me. I had to defend myself.' I've managed to get the sword this way but not with any of the other options.

Its not mentioned anywhere on the wiki that I can find. I recently tested the amount of gold a dwarf noble rogue could acquire prior to the party camp being reached for the first time (enough to legally buy The Spellward without exploits, so 88g), but didn't know this needed to be tested as well.
I would initially try with just 1 point in coercion, that's all a mage requires to keep the staff from the mage origin.

You don't want to spend too many attribute points into cunning if you're not a rogue. The "Broken Circle" questline will give you a possible +5 to cunning, and you only need 16 for max coercion.
If you are unable to get the fine dwarven sword from Harrowmont, just do without. It won't be long before you find something better.
