Option number one is simply asking WAY too much! I would much rather Bioware have their voice actors record more dialogue instead of just reading 100 variances of a first name several times.

Option number two... eh... text-to-voice technology is still far from being perfected (in terms of emotion, punctuation, and naturalness). Immersion would break like a twig if Ash, Shepard's Mom, Joker or any other character uttered a garbled version of my first name (especially during an emotional scene). So yeah... I share your pet peeve to a certain extent, but I can't really support your ideas because the technology simply isn't here, yet (and I'd much rather Bioware spend their focus on other things). I'm just fine with the little pet names LIs give me. Ash can refer to me as her Skipper any day! =)
