As the title says.

I uninstall the game, then I reinstall it. This last time, (of like three times today), I installed Origins, then Awakening, without starting up the game, then patch 1.04. I try starting up the game, then an Application Error shows.

To quote,
"daorigins.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly(0xc0000006). Click OK to close the application."

Any ideas? This is annoying me greatly. Need anything?

You need to do a Google search for that error code... it's an issue with either Windows itself or one of the drivers/background programs you have running.

You can also use Google to search these forums by typing this into the Google search field:

site:social.bioware.com 0xc0000006

... although I don't think it's the game. Again, look to your Windows installation. If you want to post your specs, etc... as per the "Read First" topic pinned to the top of this forum, then maybe someone will be able to comment further.

Did a google search, and it does look like a Windows problem. Going to do a system restore, then try the installation. Will check back later.

EDIT: Did the system restore, installed Origins w/o starting it up, same with Awk, then Patch 1.04. Started up the game, same problem. At this point, should I reinstall the Operating System?

It's hard to give advice without knowing your system specs. Is this Windows XP? 32-bit or 64-bit? Stuff like that.

Generally, reloading the OS is the "nuclear option"... before doing something less radical, I would suggest taking a hard look at whatever else might be running in the background... any device drivers, etc. You can try to update those or do a clean uninstall/reinstall... there's an example "how to" linked below in my sig.

You might also want to make sure your system integrity is intact re: viruses or malware. Or, alternately, make sure your anti-virus/anti-spyware isn't interfering with the operator or installation of the game.

Finally, are you installing the games off of disc? If so, have you had any issues with your disc drive recently?

Windows 7, 64-bit. Gateway DX4831.

I'll take a look at updating the drivers, etc. And my antivirus program is great, it doesn't usually interfere with stuff. ESET is what I'm using. I am installing off physical discs, and my disc drive should be fine. I was playing DVD's in it a week ago, and my discs in general don't get scratched up.

Has DAO worked before? You didn't specify if it had run without errors on this computer or if you only just installed the game and got errors.

I'm thinking along the lines of C++ maybe make sure you have the latest C++ runtime version installed as when you don't programs never tell you they just come up with a random error message that tells you nothing.

I've had DAO installed on this PC since I got it about a year ago. How else would I have such an awesome elf avatar? =P. I do leave it at home during the college school year, while I'm in a different town.

If it was a C++ issue, is it because I'm updated or not updated with that?

And I updated my NVIDIA driver to the latest one, that apparently causes problems. I couldn't find the semi-latest one, w/o problems, for Win7 64bit. It's not that terribly long until they update it, right? Mid-July.

K, full system specs:
Gateway, model DX4831-05
Windows 7, 64-bit
NVIDIA GeForce 315, 512MB
Intel Core i5 Processor 650 @ 3.20 GHz
8 GB RAM

The C ++ thing i was just saying to download the latest version of the runtime on the off chance you might not have the latest one or the correct one didn't install from the game. Some people have had to download the latest Directx 9 because of the game not installing it correctly so it'll probably happen with other redistributables.

Just did that I think, still not working. DL'ing and installing latest Directx 9 now. Done, still not working.

Now that those two are installed...Uninstall DAO, install again, try again?

Uninstalled, shut down PC, started it up, installed in that proper order, made sure C++ and Directx 9 were there, still the same error.

You still haven't given complete information, so it is still difficult to offer much help. You can, however, roll back your graphics drivers in the computer->properties window. The latest full version of Nvidia's drivers work fine and are available on their website.
