Even though DA2 wasn't as good as its predecessor, I can say that two things made playing through the game easier:
1. Merrill.
2. Varric.
These two are some of BioWare's most awesome characters so far. Pity everyone else were more forgettable.
Best things about DA2.

I was the lowly peasant intern.
I wrote Magistrate's Orders, Gamlen's Greatest Treasure, Murder of Crows and a few other side quests.
