Portal 1 & 2. They are good games but very short and too easy IMO.

Portals are highly rated because of humor, not gameplay.

I honestly don't care what genre it's supposed to be, there are characters and dialogue in the game and they were executed poorly.

No they were OTT, deliberately so, as 1 look at the games art style should tell you.

I agree he keeps complaining about the Claptraps but they were the funniest characters in the game.  This has replay value and if you can get some good people to join you there really is no better in Coop.

Oblivion.

A game that manages to make a nightmare-ish demon realm boring, is really something.

Everyone is certainly welcome to their own opinion.

Personally, I didn't see any connection between the art style and the corny jokes. I found the art style to be interesting and somewhat original. I found the dialogue merely irritating and boring.

I understand some enjoyed the co-op mode. I only played single player.

Halo - Admittedly this game did a lot for the FPS genre on consoles, at least in terms of multiplayer, but the game has possibly the most tedious and repetitive campaign I've ever played. I'm completely lost at why some fans claim it has such a good story. Then there's the sequels that really are more of the same thing.

Gears of War 2 - These games also seem to carry loads of hype, but I got bored of this halfway through. Fun at first but again the campaign soon becomes very repetitive. It has better level design than Halo (and indeed most other shooters these days) but the characters get on my nerves and render the cutscenes annoying.

Final Fantasy X - Good battle system, and at the time it had amazing graphics, but a lot annoyed me about this game. The linearity, the sphere grid system, and a storyline which is in my opinion one of the most dull in the series. Can't help but feel most people who rate it so highly played it as their first FF game, as the PS1 (and possibly SNES) ones were much more exciting and fun.

I personally wish they kept the art style they planned years before the game came out.  It was gonna be more darker and edgier.  But the final product is good enough.  I enjoy Co-op when I can get people to join my game but even when I can't I just leave my server open while I play single player.

Just thought of another (apologies to those offended, I know this is the BS ):

ME2

To me, one of the most overrated games of the last 4 or so years. A plot just thick enough to keep the game going, half decent characters, a combat system that was vastly better than ME's but still extremely sub-par in terms of general shooters, and nice, but not spectacular graphics.

A well polished product, to be sure. Probably worth an 8/10 in my books. But the scores and GOTY awards it's won? I just don't see it. There was nothing at all revolutionary about it, and nothing that makes it stand out in terms of 'magic' as far as I can see.

Agreed. The bulk of the story was collecting companions and fulfilling their wishes (sidequests)... The actual Main Quest was rather short and uninspired...

Was Crysis ever regarded as more than a video card benchmarking game? I seem to recall the reviews when the game came out were mixed and it never really acheived a high status in gamer's eyes.  Far Cry was Crytek's claim to fame.

ME2 was a better game, ME1 was a better experience. You can really tell a lot about somebodies gaming habits based on which they prefer.

Halo 1. The STORY is good, the story telling is bad...as it was with Halo 2 and 3. Reach was a considerable improvement, but still nothing spectacular. It didn't do anything new...just did what PC games had already been doing, but on a console.

Call of Duty. I enjoyed the Modern Warfare games, but yeah...overrated.

Portal...LOVED it...but wow...people got so obsessed over the companion cube and "the cake is a lie" that it was really just obnoxious.

Resistance: Fall of Man - This game was the best of the PS3 when it launched...but it was a mediocre game at best. I played all through it...it was like if Serious Sam actually took itself Serious. I'm told the 2nd is better...haven't had the chance to play it yet.

Ocarina of Time. OK, seriously, I loved this game...just like I love all Zelda games. But it's not the best...I can name 2 other Zelda games that I prefer. (TP, LttP)

Super Mario Galaxy - It's interesting because Twilight Princess was criticized for being too much like Ocarina of Time, yet Mario galaxy is the spitting image of Mario 64, and nobody says anything bad.

and finally: EVERY GAME ROCKSTAR HAS EVER MADE. I played pretty much all of them, and beat them. They were DECENT games, but nothing spectacular. The writing in all of them was subpar, the characters weren't sympathetic. Niko Bellic was a jerkoff...everyone was talking about how GTAIV was a story of a man trapped by his destiny, but he went out looking for trouble.

RDR was...BORING. The story was uninteresting...and took too many cues from bad westerns. It's ironic, because I LOVE old Clint Eastwood movies...which it supposedly followed...but I saw very little of any of them in the game, aside from a few direct rip-offs.

Ocarina of Time: Everyone acts like its the best game ever made, but it just seems boring and ugly :P

COD: I do play COD , but it is destroying the games industry.

Brink:I have played it and there is no satisfaction from doing anything.

You played it?
cause saying it "seems boring and ugly"  just tells me your judging it from screenshots or something.
Its considered one of the greatest games of all time for a reason.
what next your gonna say Mario 64 looked boring and ugly.

Mario 64

Absolutely despised that game.
It had no plot, the combat was dull and the missions were boring and repetitive.
I have no idea why the game is rated so highly, Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64 were a billion times better.

Planescape Torment & Fallout.
They are good games but nothing special in my eyes, and i find games like Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, KoTOR more appealing to me.

Dragon Age Origins: Its not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination but people really need to stop holding it up as the pinnacle of RPG's. Its good but not that good.

Every Mario game ever. I just don't get it.

Ocarina of Time: I enjoyed it yes, it was a good game but I found some parts tedious and for me its nowhere near the best game ever.

COD: Its just a really old game that was never that great, I don't see why people love it.

Crysis 2: For such a big budget release its utter crap. Outside of its graphics and sound nothing is polished to anywhere near an acceptable standard. Halo: Reach pisses on it from a great height.

Every GTA game. I just can't get into them. Loved RDR though.

FF13: I know its not that hyped and I did actually enjoy the gameplay and didn't mind the corridors too much. But the leveling system was diabolical it was giving the illusion of choice but you'd be a fool to do anything other than the recommended and it had the worst characters I've ever had to endure in a game.

Starcraft 2.
I just don't understand how can it be fun to play the same game for 10+ years and then get the same game with better but not specially good graphics and play it again unless you are Korean and earn money for winning.

I disagree with whoever said Borderlands was boring; multiplayer was fun as heck, DLC's added replay value and leveling up so you could loot powerful gear was somewhat rewarding. Good game!
