Aside from the ones mentioned: TES V: Skyrim. It is overrated since the first trailer (wich didn't show anything of the actual game), and I'm sure, no matter how good it may be, it can't deserve so much praise.
It is impossible for Skyrim to be overrated yet. How can you know until you actually try the game?
For it to be "over rated," there actually have to be some people reviewing the game and rating it. So far, nobody has played it, there are no critic or fan reviews praising it or criticizing it yet.
EDIT: you might consider the trailer to be over rated, or the E3 gameplay demo, for example, or for the game itself to be "over-hyped" but the game can't be over rated until people are actually giving it high ratings and praise.

A lot of people might have faith that the game will be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but no one is actually claiming to know first hand that the game is great, except for the devs who have actually played it.

Except that a lot of people is claiming it will be "the best game ever" right after watching the first trailer.

I mean, come one. First HL2, then TF2, then Portal, and then the thing I can hardly call a full game without biting my tongue, Left 4 Dead. All good games I admit, but for some reason people hail them as being these masterpieces among the video game world. I just don't see it, and yes I've played all of them all the way through (except TF2 cause you can't really beat that).

Excluding the NDS ones (as I haven't played those) ***Possible Spoilers***
***Possible Spoilers***
- A.I. is horrible. The guards and enemies on a whole aren't a challenge. Even in numbers to get rid of. They aren't very relentless either. Makes the cops from GTA look like aces in the trade.
- Armor in No.2 and beyond was an unnecessary addition , much moreso fixing it
- The combat never impressed me in either 1 or 2. One-Two button fiddling and braindead easy counters on everbody.
- Prepare for it. The Sci-Fi Historical Ave. works for only so long. I can't call this my biggest complaint because hell, it started this way.Especially, after seeing the underwhelming "Truth" , Adam and Eve as parents of assassins? Biblical parkour is just goofy. I facepalmed when I saw it. Very Kingdom Heartsy in execution.
- On that tangent, Subject 16, the apple's placement and changing of hands comes a bit off to me. Wasn't it suppose to be in Napoelon and Houdini's hands after Ezio, but Brotherhood has Ezio bury it under the Colosseum until discovered 2012.
- Characters, never a fan of Desmond, liked Altair, apathetic to Ezio. Side characters? don't get me started on how neutralI am with them.
***I know I'm not the only one seeing plotholes about.
TL;DR: Assassin's Creed series isn't horrible ( and never said it was). However, there is an explosion of hype with each new console installment and they get high scores along with it. No.2 leaped from No.1, and Brotherhood made decent tweaks from 2 but I still find an average stealth/action game. If more time was invested on making more interesting gameplay and main characters instesd of stuffing many historical/Biblical cameos in an overly bloated story. It could be better.
Still TL;DR: The series on a whole is fairly average to good, not a godly gift from the Gaming Gods.

I hear ya.
I am looking forward to it, but I know that allof this hype from around will lead to undercutting of expectations in one way or another.
I know you shouldn't call a game overrated before playing it, but....I'm calling it.

He was simply listing games he doesn't like/thinks are overrated and is providing reasons why he doesn't like them and why he thinks they're overrated.
Which is the purpose of the thread.
However, all of the games I mentioned, I do like. Every single one of them was fun, and worth playing...but they got blown so far out of proportion that it's not even funny. Just because a game is good doesn't mean that it deserves perfect scores across the board, and that gamers everywhere should get on their knees before it.

Don't come at me wrong, I love Ocarina of Time. I still think it's a great titile, but I have to be honest to even myself.
Does it really, truly warrant the unstopping praise it gets?
You may say yes, I say no.
The graphics haven't aged well (unless you get the 3DS one I suppose), the story is nice not heartstopping. I could go on you know, I still respect it very very much.
MarioKart 64 is just garbage. Take that as you will.

Seriously, it is.
The humor was lulz, but it had mediocre level design. Graphics were shady, for even a PS2 title.
The combat was repetitive as hell to me once I found a combo that worked. I know very few that changed their game occassionally and fresh once they found a fighting set that fit them.
I get where the fanbase comes from and I too enjoyed the humor. (DAT MAD MIDGET FIVE)
Yet, people act as if it was the best thing they have ever touched. And that was included with the
"Hmmph! Buy better titles!" attitude because not many purchased or tried it. The increased difficulty (which was a fair difficulty, that I liked) also added to this attitude.
Fun-loving game that is mediocre. One of the most overrated of underrated games of all time.

I guess I just see it as a brawler action game with a ton of sophistication and customizable complexity but its just my view on it. Also "most overrated of underrated" must keep that line in my mind.
Yeah, Mad Midget Five really make Super Sentai look like jokes.

I agree with those who said the Witcher.
I haven't played TW2 so I honestly can't comment on that but I logged in about 6-10 hours on the first game after having heard so many rave reviews and I just didn't "get it". That and I found the combat a bit on the dull side but not so mindless that I could just slog through it. Not that it was bad mind you, but the whole thing felt a bit lacking on an emotional level, I just couldn't manage to get hooked.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare. I haven't liked a Call of Duty since United Offensive. The series lost me way back with CoD2 and I haven't seen anything to change my mind since.
Metal Gear Solid 4. One of the worst games I have ever played and the cinematics are too clunky to even make for a fun viewing experience ala Deadly Premonition.
Mass Effect 1 and Oblivion. These two games were given easy rides I think because we were early in a new gen still bedazzled by what the console machines were now capable of and the scope of what we were seeing. I admired some of the technical aspects but they both felt like a collection of interesting ideas that didn't quite make it to an execution level, Oblivion moreso than Mass Effect but they feel like games that were kind of allowed to be somewhat janky experiences because of when they came out though in the case of Mass Effect 2 and so far based on what we've seen in Skyrim these rough efforts led to far superior sequels.
Uncharted 2. I picked this up after having seen the reception it got and the game is "good" and the level of production and presentation is truly fantastic but the actual gameplay felt rather average.

Okay, I can understand.
I do agree with your crit of "The Truth" though. It was very...cringe worthy. As for the Apple of Eden however, I think there are six or seven of them, not just the one, so I hope that clears that up a bit for yah. I do wish it wasn't easy to get away from guards - well, it's not easy but if I turn a few corners and dive into a haystack, which is the only place I could hide, the guards pull a "derp" and go off somewhere else. The last two games improved that bit, but I agree they could do better. Don't get me started on the Brutus Armor in Brotherhood - when I acquired it, I wondered how the hell Ezio could move in it.
Despite the cons, I think Ubisoft has a great game series here. Of course it's a stretch, but it's somewhat different from the other games out there and I enjoy it.
