Half Life 2.
Halo 3, ODST and Halo Reach (they are good games but Halo 1 and 2 were better and Halo 1 is probably one of the best single player shooters because of the story, the environments and enemies)
The Witcher (it has a good concept - grey moral choices - but the story is ridiculous)
Assassins Creed (apart from the free running and combat, there's nothing much here, the story is plain stupid and full of plot holes)
Gothic series.

Biggest this gen would be GTA4, Red Dead Redemption, Assassins Creed, others...
Not CoD. I say this because CoD4 is not overated, it is genuinely a good game. And the others after, actually get a lot of flak.
Most CoD fans i know actually hate Black Ops. MW2 was colossaly panned. World at War, within a month of release, was mostly devoid of players on its multiplayer after most went back to Cod4, and only **** Zombies (lulwat, Na-zi is censored?) kept that game popular (which it should, becuase the original Zombie map was great). Of coarse, they all still get monumental amounts of sales, but the praise is gradually decreasing since CoD4.
MW3 was not the highlight of E3, which surprised me (not that i was looking forward to it, but i thought the general internet would get crazy excited and hyped for it, which didn't happen). Battlefield 3 and Skyrim got more publicity. They were the highlights. Battlefield 3 looks like it could seriously pose a danger to CoD, because it is garnering a lot of positive attention.
My belief is that the next CoD after MW3 will be the last in its style, and after that, the series will either drastically change and evolve or the gaming community will finally depose it.
the next CoD will be a sequel to Black Ops, so i doubt the sales of the franchise will plummet to guitar hero levels anytime soon (MW3 will definitely sell less than Black Ops i think), and then you've got new consoles on the horizon which will change the landscape of that market regardless
personally i actually enjoyed it (black ops), it was the wacky/crazy call of duty i wanted somebody to make after the super-serial COD4 hit it big
the entire franchise is overrated tho, including COD4, and this is coming from somebody who loved the hell out of COD1/2, the entire point of Call of Duty was to make the sequel to MOHAA that should've been but never happened, it was great and a hit and all that, but it was just evolutionary not revolutionary, the only game in the franchise that could be said to be revolutionary was COD4 which it really wasn't, they nailed the controls on consoles and perks were basically weapon loadouts instead of placing weapons on the map that was already semi-broken with its first use, yeah it gave non-mp fans something to play for but i wouldn't call it well-made, it was just the antithesis to the slower paced halo 3 juggernaut and it was multiplatform, the modern setting with easy controls is what sells these games not their quality or whatever EA thinks battlefield 3 will take away
with that out of the way, i'm looking forward to seeing what the Respawn guys do next

I think Oblivion was a little overrated in that people say its an amazing "rpg". It didn't really have many choices. It was sort of like an action-rpg more or less. Imo it was a decent game to kill off some time.
definitely, everytime somebody (even myself) says what makes Oblivion a good game it's the sheer size of the world and how much bang for your buck you get out of it
as for "choice" i think what makes bethesda rpg's fun is that you get the ultimate choice of just killing anybody and damn near everybody if you want and there's no illusionary wall preventing you from exploiting the sandbox nature of their games
but i do think where rpg matters - story and mechanics - are two things bethesda is woefully inadequate at, it's just that their games are like a giant buffet so it's hard to be picky sometimes

Pretty much everything from Rockstar...
But Rockstar makes games that have profound political commentary on American culture. And they don't go the usual sci-fi or fantasy route. Not them. They're too clever for that. They even made a game centered around the old west. Can you imagine!? THE OLD WEST.
THE GENIUS OF IT ALL.
obsessed with talking smack about Rockstar at every oppurtunity its sad really.
this is just backlash
I'll stop when people stop (seemingly obsessively) heaping undeserved praise on them
or when they start making games that are fun to play rather than just good to listen to

Manhunt
Bully
Every GTA since the first (haven't played the hand held ones)
RDR
LA Noire
The Warriors
Max Payne 1 and 2
I have found EVERY single one of these games very fun... Sounds like the praise is deserving if you ask me. Maybe these games are just not your cup of tea. But they gotta be doing something right to have people crying that they weren't at E3 to announce GTA V.
Not every game I've played sat well with me either. But I don't just go go oh this publisher sucks because so and so isn't the game for me. If I did that I'd never have played Dragon Age or Mass Effect because I couldn't stand Baldur's Gate

I'm not sure how that's even possible: it has to be one of the most overly-criticised games in history. Sure, it has its flaws, but I still see remarks like this on an almost daily basis even five years after its release.Rokky94 wrote...

The first Assassin´s Creed. Very repetitive. Was surprised how much the second improved.
2 was definitely a vast improvement over the first. Althoguh, the firsts potential was always obvious, imo. The only real sad part about the 2nd game was the fact that most of it's amazing sci-fi story was mostly hidden in side/collection quests!!!

I bought Brotherhood on a whim. Still not even sure why. I had to force myself to finish the first game and had pegged the series as something beyond my enjoyment.
Then I played Brotherhood and I'm sold. It got me to play the first one again and here's a twist I enjoyed it a lot more to the point where I didn't have to force myself to finish it but I got excited booting it up.
Its crazy how one game can change my opinion of an earlier game to this point. I haven't played 2 yet but I'm going to start that up soon.

My humble recommendation for 2 is to play all of the missions that require to find the "data packets" hidden on buildings as symbols... one of the most interesting plotlines EVER will be revealed!

I heard how wonderful Vice City was so gave it a try. I found driving bland and forgettable and I was stopped by police for no discernable reason. I tried driving wildly for fun but soon ended up in hospital losing all my money (and it still wasn't fun). I tried progressing through the story. someone gave me a gun and then told me to run away from chefs with kitchen knives. I tried shooting the chefs and discovered why I was being told to run as guns are utter rubbish in this game. The man then told me to go to a specific shop of his choice (and wouldn't settle for another shop of the same type) and buy a weapon (presumably a real weapon like a knife rather than that rubbish gun he gave me) despite me not having any money ....at this point the awfulness was too much for me so I gave up to play something fun instead.Rockworm503 wrote...

I later gave the seris a second try with a cheap copy of San Andreas and soon found myself struggling against the awful controls of a bicycle trying to get to a location marked as a near-invisible dot on a 2-dimensional map of a 3-dimensional city - this would be hard enough but there was also a carload of madmen trying to get in my way and shoot me...I thought I had lost them when a car crashed into the subway..but no, they soon gunned me down...I found a weird thing outside a building..I had no idea what it was but the police shot me when I tried to use it...still could not find anything remotely enjoyable,
Red Dead Redemption seemed an improvement but as a roleplayer I felt awkward trying to make decisions for someone who was keeping his motivations secret from me..though he was obviously either an idiot or had a deathwish...

I just feel that too much of the praise is about presentation and subject matter rather than the product as a GAME
This topic is about most "overrated games" which means it is for people to say how much they don't like popular, highly rated games. If you can't take it when something you like is critisized then stay away.
