After spending 24 hours for the set-up of what looked like a good idea of a BGT installation, the game crashed when I tried starting a new game.
Further testing revealed that while most of the game works, whenever I try to set foot on a BG1 area, the game has a CTD.
If that is a known bug for somebody ("You simply forgot patch X, happens all the time, noob.") that'd be great.
I'd like to avoid posting my Weidu.log because frankly it passed the length where people will even pretend to read it. Most of the mods (and all the more intrusive ones*) installed I have used before and in rather the same installation order. The one thing that I actually did differently this time was, when I read in the BWP that during the installation of the BG1 TotSC patch some files were deleted and that I should restore them, I followed that advice. But that shouldn't break everything, right?

When exactly does your game crash? Immediately after creating a character or during the cutscene with Gorion on leaving Candlekeep?

EDit: did you install Infinty Animations?

No, during the loading of the BG1 area (even before the introductory talk actually)

No, IA didn't look very good to me last time I tried it. Beggars were moving with one speed and getting forward with another, for example (like a permanent moon-walk).

If the game crashes while the "circle" is loading, it's probably because there are area graphics missing. Can you check your Data folder for BGT BIF-files? That is files like "AREA7800.bif". Especially the area code for Candlekeep (AREA0015.bif). There should be at least 66 AREA.bif files, iirc. Sorry, not sure since i don't have BG installed on my laptop, so i can't check my own install of BGT

There are other possibilities, but it seems most likely that area files are either missing or corrupted.

Hm. Candlekeep is there. But I only have 42 files starting on "area", and judging by the size I don't think all of them are actual area files either.

You're missing files. Unfortunately, i can't check before later this afternoon. In the meantime, there's a small possibility the area graphics got corrupted while being loaded. Try clearing the cache and temp folders and try to start the game again.

Doesn't help.
Unfortunately I don't want to reinstall until I know what's wrong, because otherwise I'm bound to run into the same problem again (Murphin's law).
Thanks for your assistance though.

After checking my own BGT installation, i'm now pretty sure that for some reason your installation got corrupted.

I'm assuming you didn't have a CD/DVD in the DVD-drive while installing BGT?

Running ant-virus or antispyware software is also known to have corrupted installation of BGT.

I'm sorry, but i'm afraid you'll have to reinstall the whole thing. And yeah, i know that's a pain in the butt, having to reinstall a megamodification. Had to do it on a few occasions myself.

You could post your problem on the SHS-forums. Maybe one of the BGT-experts there knows a shortcut to solve your problem. I'm afraid they'll come to the same conclusion as me, though.

Have you considered using the BWP automated installation? It's very easy to modify nowadays.

So, I cut my installation short.

Where is the mistake? This is also in exactly the order that the Big World Project suggests. What's wrong?

Sorry, didn't see your answer just then. No, the DVD drive was empty.

Running ant-virus or antispyware software is also known to have corrupted installation of BGT.

Not to my knowledge. My internet security seems to have recently gone into hibernation until I'm willing to pay for it (or replace it with a free one).

Gonna do that.

Don't need. I actually like manually setting everything.

Item Revisions before BGT looks suspect. Are you sure that's where it's supposed to go in the order?

Nothing wrong with that. One thing i forgot to ask: how far did the loading bar get before it crashed? If it constantly crashes at about 1/3 through, it's definitely a corrupted area file. If it nearly completes, it's probably a .bcs file.

1/3. Yeah, looks corrupted. But why? And there are even others who seem to share this experience (I've posted on the SHS forums with "I got the same problem" in an existing thread).

Edit: Also: Pure BG1 runs without issues (as far as I can tell. It starts a new game without any CTDs at least).

@AnonymousHero

If that's the recommended BWP installation order, like H_T says, it should be ok. It's what i use and i haven't run into any problems. Moreover, crashes on loading area's is usually a sign of corrupted files.

Though i do seem to remember installing in the Programs folder under Vista or W7 can cause the same problem. But i'm assuming a veteran like H_T knows better than to instal it there if he's using Vista or W7:)

I honestly can't say why it got corrupted. It might simply be a corrupt download or a dozen other reasons.

BGT did seem a bit confused during the installation process (which I watched just now, testing if it was either IR's or TOB-Ex's fault), unable to find certain files etc, but it ran on and reached the end as if nothing was wrong.
I'm thinking of trying my first Tutu installation.
