Please no pre-launch/launch character DLC.

Some examples of this claim would be the recent Dragon Age 2 DLC, has a major story/plot character, that can have a effect on your end choices, this was complete before the game came out...
The game could have had it come with new copies like the cerberus network or Shale (DAO), but instead they charge it for everyone that did not reserve the special edition... I reserved the special edition, but regret the idea of such a huge piece of content, that is striped purposely to make more money!
If Bioware keeps doing this I believe it will have major repercussions later on. Please don't do this Bioware, I don't want to lose anymore faith in you.

Yes. DLC is made because game companies HATE gamers. It makes perfect sense.

If it ain't free I'm not gonna touch it.
DLC later down the road is acceptable but its not DLC if it should've been in the game from the start.
Reason why I don't spend a cent on the Marvel Vs Capcom 3 characters those ones were found out to be on the disc already (that is unforgivable)
same with Mortal Kombat. The new chars look awesome but 5 bucks for what obviously was left out of the game just to get more money out of us is unacceptable.

i) ignore DLC
ii) if I think the game will take the mickey with DLC, leave it until it's cheap and comes with the DLC, so I can get the whole game - or just forget it
Every (let's call it "tonne") every tonne of DLC I anticipate a game having, is a slight disincentive, makes the game a little lighter. and staves off the initial impulse purchase a little further, for me.

And if you wait awhile until the price difference is significant, paying for the DLC is still a heck of alot cheaper than buying it new.

What makes you think that the DA2 DLC character would have been made at all without the DLC plan?

Where did I say hate... When I said spite (offend) towards fans, I mean how they treat us like idiots for letting them do this and we are just going with it... If we don't voice our opinion more and do something, then we will end up with less and less down the road. Just like what's happening in America with not enough people participating in the rights they have to vote, and how certain state politicians are trying to make anyone that goes to college not be able to vote, even if your 18 years or older.
If we just allow things to go on because we are lazy, then we will face the consequences down the road.

Sigh you don't get it... Launch DLC is an F-U to gamers and some of us refuse to buy into it.
DLC in general isn't bad.

They already had some of the character data in the disc, and they had the character months ahead of it being out....

Then again, the normal edition may come with DLC card/token things regardless?
Anyway, dunno if that's a universal rule with games and/or retailers, but generally when you pre-order a special version of the game [that doesn't have things like figurines that obviously warrant a higher price] you can get it at the same cost as the base version.
All in all, no matter how you slice it, it'll largely be based on "What's the quickest way we can get a return on our inve$tment on this game?". Just that some reasons are more 'reasonable' than others, for example purposefully leaving content out only to 'sell' it later, yeah.. that's pretty harsh.

Agree. I am not saying DLC is bad, but DLC that is obviously part of the main game at launch and selling it seperetly on day one is asinine. DLC that is developed way later after the game is out, like GTA4 (don't even care for it) is great . I don't care for Rockstar games, but they did a fantastic job on how DLC should be done, with GTA4.

Oh yeah GTA 4 DLC were seperate games and had their own stories that tied in with the original game companies should use this as a model. Same with RDR Undead Nightmare was great and buying it gives you all the other DLCs for free.
Then they ruin it with LA Noire's DLC which start coming out less than a month after the game.... Yeah their excuse is they couldn't fit it into the disc... then make it a free DL on day one.

no they do it for monetary reasons without truly understanding the concept of DLC and its true function in the industry.

Everything games companies do is for monetary reasons. That's why they're companies.
