Derek Watts doesn't seem to care about the fans of the Mass Effect series...

“You know, [the fans have] been pretty receptive to the changes we’ve made,” he said. “We haven’t really had much negative feedback from them.”
I am sorry but there HAS been a number of negative feedback if you are going to say things like this when WE the gamers support Bioware games then not only is that a huge insult in my opinion but it's obvious you are thinking more like Bobby Kotick at Activision!!
Don't go and insult us like that when we buy your games and support you in the hopes of getting better games through feedback.
Mass Effect 2 was nothing like a true RPG experience the first one was better FACT ME2 was more like Gears of War and I am not really a huge fan of Gears sorry.
Bring back loot, bring back stats in fact bring back everything from ME1 in 3! I want an RPG with true decision making, I don't want to have Paragon or Renegade blocked if I follow one or the other!

Besides, he is right: the exploration and decision-making is infinitely more important to the experience than numbers of the ability to pick up things when you walk around. Mass Effect is not, and has never been, a hardcore RPG and many of the features often seen in hardcore RPGs just aren't necessary to make Mass Effect good. It is the story and the characters that make Mass Effect good, so I think Derek Watts is bang on the money there.

So, uh, OP, you want them to do fan service in order to stop fan service?

Also fact, the peeps here on BSN make up a relatively small number of the Bioware fans.

So much fail...I'd write up a counter-argument, but I doubt it would do you much good.
Probably not cos it's hard to talk to people that are like zombies, one min I see people complaining and agreeing then as soon as I raise an argument you lot seem to go against things that make sense and as such are true.
I have already realised I am probably one of the only people left on this planet that makes any sense my reasoning giving that ME1 was far better as an RPG as was Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic 1 that in ME2 it was too much running and gunning so to speak.

"Derek Watts said that he is not too worried about fans’ reaction to the slight changes in character design for the third instalment."
I agree with him, slight changes in character design are needed and I welcome it, so far what we seen is great and Im really like the new looks for Kaidan and Ash. You cant use the context of that quote which is about character design to then discuss gameplay mechanics.
Bioware are on the few Developers that actively do listen to their fans. If there was strong vocal disapproval im sure they would think twice. But small pockets here and there probably not.

Dude, the ME series was meant to be an action RPG. Not just an RPG. There are elements from shooters and RPGs alike, because that's what the team was aiming for.
Also fact, the peeps here on BSN make up a relatively small number of the Bioware fans.

Did you not read it entirely? That say that RPG's (to them) aren't about loot and stats.
I don't think he did. RPG means different things to different people.
Hell, I got into a rather civil debate not too long ago about whether or not the GTA could be considered an RPG.
Chill, OP. Different people like different things and, as I said before, different people look for different things in an RPG. Or any game, for that matter.

RPG means different thing for different people. Even this forums "veteran" RPG players can't seem to agree about RPG and have split options about it.

So you played a shooter/RPG game and yet complained that 1. That it had shooter elements and 2. That they greatly improved the shooting mechanics from the first game?
Seriously OP?

Contrary to popular belief 'fanservice' is not simply giving the fans what they want.Phaedon wrote...
P. sure that he was referring to the characters from ME2 anyway.

Fanservice is a specific term that refers to gratuitous titillation however it can also be used to refer to an intertextual reference (aka an easter egg)

That's a damn shame. And there I went thinking that Mass Effect 1 was Bioware's weakest RPG, barring Neverwinter Nights. Well, if you want to spend an entire game deleting omnigel and "exploring" generic maps, I will not stop you. Just don't be surprised if Bioware decides to ignore you.

They know how to tell what fans want. Still things like "It's about exploration and combat" hurt me rpg-elitist string. Jeez, how I'm tired of this word "exploration, exploration, exploration..." even goddamn planet scanning is an exploration and it's somehow supposed to be part of roleplay. Roleplay of who? Explorer?
And combat is a part of almost every damn genre, even Mario has it.
Ahem, as I said it's good interview.

No thanks for dragging up the same tired old arguments that we've bickered about now for almost 18 months. We've done this already. Leave it lie.
And lol at the faux indignation.
