Would anyone know how I can add gore or bloodstains on a sword when using one as an item in a cutscene as opposed to using the gore setting via the "draw weapon" method?
I have a sword I need to manipulate beyond draw weapon, hence I did not add it to the creature but rather am using it with various keyed "link to actor" manipulations.
I couldn't find vfx for static stains as of yet. Any ideas?

I would suppose that it should be possible to create a custom crust vfx with a static effect. My approach would be to customize i.e. the fxa_ice_swrd_c.vfx, change the material library and use sw_bl_dot as material object (or to customize any blood related crust vfx and change the model).
Because the emitter type is fountain or explosion the tricky part would be to manipulate other parameters (i.e. birth rate, life expectancy etc. ) to create a more static effect.
No idea if it could work. But that´s what I would try to figure out.

I've never actually created VFX in the VFX editor, but based on what you say, (and if I try to make sense of it) I would set birth rate to very high, set an average life expectancy and loop the duration part of the embedded animation in the CS editor infinitely...but all of this requires me to learn to create/manipulate VFX...
Thank you for the idea though! I might resort to this if I don't find a simpler option.

I am afraid the only solution will be a customization. A customized item, a customized vfx or whatever. I could not imagine any other possibility.
It is not difficult to customize a vfx. To create a static effect would be the challlenging part. (I wouldn´t set the birth rate of the emanating particles to very high...but, well...)
But I am sure you could find someone with a good level of expertise for any customization approach.

That just goes to show you how little I know about VFX creation
I'll try to see if someone on the team I'm working with might know something about this, and if not, I might attempt to brave a new editor in the toolset temporarily. Thanks again

Ah yes, the masterplan of mutating DL into an all knowing toolset brain to be used as a source of knowledge to all is coming along nicely.....excellent.

Indeed, after I have failed miserably at VFX creation it will be great!!

Custom VFX isn't that why we have Jassper?

if it is a custom weapon (model)... i would think you could create a version with a bloodstained texture. and then just use that.
and where's Jassper doing custom fx? i need some, too... :X

I'm probably going to go with a bloodstain texture if possible. It isn't a custom sword, but I can create one for this purpose temporarily. Of course the optimal solution would be blood oozing from it slowly, and after dabbling with the VFX editor (wow it's powerful!) I can see that could be entirely possible, but most likely not worth the big effort for the scene in question.
@yara btw now I understand what you meant by birthrate
Thanks for all of your input guys
Edit: come to think of it, "Blood oozing from your swords" would make a nifty mod wouldn't it
