It should primarily be for understanding of the original game...hence the section "Custom Content Makers" perhaps should have another home?

Why in Hades would you want to banish the one reason that NWN has stayed alive all these years? CC is a much a part of NWN as the original campaigns. What we need here is a comprehensive site that gathers information in one place, not a site that further chops it apart.

THIS is the true NWN homepage.

I agree with ShaDoOow. The wiki is an excellant format for what we're trying to do. It just needs more people adding stuff to it.

@Amethyst - I love the site format you've got going. I just hope it isn't more than one person can handle; that's a lot of information to maintain.

Dude...I know you are a CC guy and I love the work you guys do....and it is probably one of the reasons I am more looking into CC now then ever before.

Still CC does not itself stand for the mayor part of the games success so far. The game itself and the toolset is what is the most important.

Then I didn't say "banish".

Actually. I am prepared to erase what I wrote before about not having CC creators info on the homepage. Who knows I might even get into CC myself with easy explanations to follow :-)

Yeah...thats another reason to keep it simple.

I'd beg to differ my friend on that. When I say CC, I'm not just referring to things such as new models, tilesets, texture reskins, etc. I'm referring to EVERYTHING that has ever been made by EVERYONE to expand the game - from the simplest module to the most complex PW; from just an icon pack to major expansions such as Q and CEP; from the tiniest script to complete AI overhauls.

Simply put, if it wasn't for the Toolset and the countless hour numerous people have spent making custom modules, models, scripts, etc., this game would have expired shortly after the original campaigns had worn thin on players. Any site that overlooks this aspect of NWN is missing a big part of the overall picture.

Very nice, Amethyst. I would suggest adding a section called "resources" that can act as a hub to other resources. I'm planning to do something similar on NWC (on a more limited scale since the site owner doesn't want to put any work into it). I'd suggest linking to the vault, DMFI, CPE, D20 Modern, Neverwinter Connections, the wiki, and the lexicon. There's also AME, a bunch of PWs... this new site could be an excellent tool for drawing us all together.

Suggestions/feedback definitely welcome.  Initial framework is now online: www.neverwinternights.info

Very barebones at the moment, but it's at least got a link to this thread and the link to download the game from gog.com.
:)

Once I get it all hammered into place with the site layout and major sections/features, then we can get to work on the actual content.

Looking good Amethyst. You might want to put a "Home" button on the top bar so that people can return to the frontpage.

D'oh! :pinched:

I'll fix that tomorrow.  For now, you can click on the site title graphic.

If it is ok with everyone I promoted this on the Facebook group page i run. If not I will remove the posts immediately. But I think getting as many people to help will make it all that much better.

Definitely ok. :)  The more promotion NWN gets, the better for our beloved game.

Plus, the more people involved, the more complete the information (and links to other NWN sites) will be.

If anyone has information they want included, feel free to email it to me (builder@neverwinternights.info).  If it's actual content for the site, can you type it up in a plain text file and attach it?  That'd make copying and pasting much easier.  I'm going to be spending some time with family for the next couple weeks, so I'll be able to jump into fitting it in once I have more NWN time.

Feel free to keep up on the suggestions/feedback here, too.  I'll be rereading this entire thread when I get time.

Oh, and I've misplaced my links to download the critical rebuild patch from BioWare.  Can someone post it here and I'll get it added tomorrow (since new players will need it when buying from gog.com)?  Thanks.

Critical rebuild downloads for the final patch (1.69). These are for the English game running under Windows.

That looks great AD, well up to the standard we've come to expect from anything with your signature on it.

As far as what goes on the site is concerned it would be good if it covered all things NwN with links to as many existing resources as possible

just my 2p worth.

Personally any main web site for nwn could only help promote a game that has pretty much fallen upon our own hands now. Any promotion or advancement of the game is up to us(the community) so why cant we make a site for our favorite game. I say go for it amethyst dragon . Make us a site that helps promote this great game , anything we can do to keep this game going can only help in the long run.

I'll offer a solution for the CC/Players section argument. Why not make a page with only the very basics to getting started, and then label the other areas as advanced? That allows the player/viewer to choose just how much to invest without having it loaded on them and possibly overwhelming them. I understand the concern there, but CC and what AD listed are very important topics to cover for players as well. Someone can choose to only read the basic introduction as a new player, and come back later for more once they understand the simple stuff.

AD: I could help out a little as time allows, if you need. I'm fairly used to managing websites, coding for it and doing a little graphic design. Also, will the site get it's own forum? That might be nice, other than for being social, it would be good to have forums that we can back up ourselves as a community and not have the same risk of loosing material as has happened before...

I took the liberty of stripping everything from the wayback.com cached listings (all 913 of them were reviewed) from 2002 to present. Here is what I have with all the source, javascript for menu rollovers, etc. I seem to remember a roll over menu at the top that ended up at the bottom of the page on the wayback.com cached listing, obviously that would have to be worked into the top and if memory serves it would go where the current menu at the top is now. I also removed the login portion on the left which could be reallocated for screenshot rotation, news, or whatever. Let me know if you want it I can email or make it available for download.

Updates, rebuilt the menus and the rest of the page, what a pain to line everything up lol. But I got it modular now so each section is independant as far as the news, announcements, etc. Gonna make the image to the left of the menu change on page load as there were 12 available and I got all 12 so might as well use them. Then ill work on the mouse over menus. Some things will have to change obviously like the account login, guilds/registry, etc, in changing though the fonts will have to change for all as I don't have the fonts they used :(. In any event i'll continue messing around with it unless I hear otherwise.

Birdman, where exactly has the boilerplate you are working on been loaded?  You have a server reserved?  I can't find it anywhere so may have missed the link somehow. :(

Also, IMHO, since the community is the sole designer of this new homepage, neither Bioware nor Atari should be advertised nor associated since they do not underwrite the content in any way shape or form.  If new players haven't figured it out yet, they should be notified in no uncertain terms that the survival of the knowledge base is a product of the efforts of an undying and enthusiastic NWN community and nothing but that community.

It would be as if they have become an integral part of the momentum of the game they just purchased.  But this is just one opinion, naturally.

I haven't loaded the page anywhere, I was/am waiting on a response from AD as he is hosting the neverwinternights.info page.

IMHO Bioware and Atari shouldn't be linked to anything but should be there because after all they did make and back the game. The bioware links at the top of the page obviously need to be changed to perhaps "NWN Info", or just "Info" or "Information", Bioware Games should be something like "Premium Modules", "Modules", etc. Support should stay and be a support/help section with FAQs, fixes, and what not. Biozone should become something like "Custom Content", "CC Zone", etc. Forums obviously remains forums if there will be any.

As far as the side menu, about the only one that needs to change is the "My Account" tab, unless of course there will be forums in which case that can be linked to the forum account login page. And maybe change support if support is to be kept on the top bar.
