I haven't loaded the page anywhere, I was/am waiting on a response from AD as he is hosting the neverwinternights.info page.

IMHO Bioware and Atari shouldn't be linked to anything but should be there because after all they did make and back the game. The bioware links at the top of the page obviously need to be changed to perhaps "NWN Info", or just "Info" or "Information", Bioware Games should be something like "Premium Modules", "Modules", etc. Support should stay and be a support/help section with FAQs, fixes, and what not. Biozone should become something like "Custom Content", "CC Zone", etc. Forums obviously remains forums if there will be any.

As far as the side menu, about the only one that needs to change is the "My Account" tab, unless of course there will be forums in which case that can be linked to the forum account login page. And maybe change support if support is to be kept on the top bar.

Maybe a temporary free site (usually contain annoying ads and pop-ups) so that the community can see it in action until a permanent residence is arranged?  The sooner you can integrate any input, the more tlikely you will get flooded with comments and criticism to refine it.

As far as your perspective on why Bioware/Atari would be included, I agree they were the owners of the intellectual property on the Internet at one time, but they have chosen to relinquish that support.  Perhaps a statement at the top like "The new fan-based source of everything having to do with Neverwinter Nights, the eternal AD&D game by Atari designed by Bioware." with the names "Atari" and "Bioware" inserted into the statement as the logo images.  This is a new era where the fan community is the sole driver of the NWN bus!  (Actually, and TBH, the grudge-holding, resentful side of my psyche would even prefer something like the 2 logos in the upper RH corner with one of those animated hands waving goodbye towards them, but I'll save that for my own editorial web site devoted to documenting the REAL story on the "pulled plug" event. *lol*)

The rest of your suggestions about how to handle linking to other aspects of the game seem well-thought and effective.  Keep some sort of journal text file that is posted until it has become an official site which documents as specifically as possible each step in the evolution of the pages, each change that has been implemented.  Perhaps you are familiar with Change Control already, though, and already maintaining one?  Make it public on the temp site for all to review as they become involved.  (Just a suggestion from previous experience with same.)

I love your ideas guys!

I run a little fan blog about nwn1/2 in Italian (Italian PW index and general information about the italian community) and yes, we really all need to keep the community united, we are few! :(

For me, the best thing to do is to create a site with base informations about the game AND an advanced section with the best CC, news about contents/autors/etc!

(Sorry for my bad English :\\ )

I'm just waiting for AD to post up, he's the one in control of neverwinternights.info and has done an awesome job of laying out a design there already. I mearly did this as an option and throw back for nostalgia purposes and partly because I could. I mean the community has been great and we have so many talented people with custom content, scripting, etc. The least I could do is use my meager skills with web design to bring back the site from the dead.

I hold no grudge or ill will towards Bioware at all, they kept the old forums up way past thier prime and they even moved everything here, again well past its prime. About the only thing I could be peeved about is the handling of the hacked forums and not doing anything as near (as I can tell) about restoring information to customers (cdkeys mainly) which has put another nail in the coffin of NWN. Maybe i've been out of touch to long but really that is the only thing I see or have been witness to and even that is a double edged sword. Its no ones responsibility but your own to store your information, cdkeys included. I have 6 copies of NWN in my possession belonging to my father, my two sons, my wifes father, my nephew, and myself and I have all the manuals and cdkeys stored. I guess I just care about my stuff a bit more then most lol.

Back on topic, I won't post the page up to a temp site because it would be redundant to host it, pull it down and rehost it on the neverwinternights.info site. Whether or not it is used will be decided by those who admin that site, I didn't pay for it therefore I don't make those choices I will just make this source available should someone deem it useful for the community. My suggestion would be to put together a design team. So until AD posts, it is what it is. Posted Image

WOW!!

This is great. Can a section for Mac and Linux users be added? I'm sure those info and patch info would be a value?

Birdman076:

Nice work on reconstructing the old site.  It can take some time to gather those old images and piece things back together.  For the moment, I'm going to run with the current layout (I dropped the graphic menu options in favor of text...easier to maintain and adjust later).  I think once we get real information onto the site, we can look back on layout again.

I'm back from vacation, so I'm getting back to work on this and other projects.

Time for some content!  You can just email me at builder@neverwinternights.info. So, here's what I'm looking for from others right away:

1. An introduction to NWN for prospective players for the main entry page.  Something descriptive that will get their attention and give them a hint of what they can get with the game.

2. Good quality screenshots (at least 800x600 pixels in size) for the main entry page.  If possible, I think we should have pictures from the original campaigns (NWN, SoU, and HotU), plus images from other single player modules and from multiplayer/PW modules.

We might be looking at two different sites here....one more advanced....and one more like the old one and simpler....but then again...I'm not sure...if AD gets most of the info from the old site on his one...his might do the trick...

Still working on pulling in more content, even as I make progress on my own projects. Tonight I added information from the old BioWare character creation guide and information on custom portraits to the player section. I'm dipping into the wayback machine version of the old site, linking a few things to specific spots on the Vault and NWNWiki, and generally trying to include useful information (or links to useful information) without being overwhelming.

Now would be a good time for emailing some of your in-game screenshots, folks. :) The front page is looking barren as I fill in other pages.

If you only want "understanding of the original game", attach the original pdf manuals to it. >.<
No such thing as too much information unless it's the wrong information, or repetitive information.

It feels like a lot of links get reppeated under each section.

I think the old homepage has like a page for links.

Then the "Get NWN" cathegory is probably not needed...as that link is already under "Home".

Also the page should have as few links as possible.

Even if I love the section about how to play online (under players) there is a specific link to the forum section about multiplayer and PW's.

Perhaps a better way is perhaps to condense all links to one place...and hence only give one link to this forum....(instead of giving a link to each section in this forum).

Keep up the good work...and hope my suggestions are helpful.

I haven't read over this entire thread but, in response to Birdman's design... sorry to say I highly advise against it. We didn't pay the web designer(s) to use it again, nor the graphic designers. That site design is material that we don't have any rights to, imo.

I have a copy of the NWN fansite kit somewhere on my computer if you want to make use of it. It's no longer available online, but well, I saved it a looong time ago. (like 2004) and I still have it.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks.

For the dedicated servers and HR DM tool (I'm not sure what that is), would you mind posting the links/urls in this thread?  Thanks.  Oh, and if others have things they think should be have links added for, be sure to post the links/urls here, otherwise it might not get added if I have to go searching for it.

Still looking for screenshots. Nobody has sent any in yet, and I'm pretty sure not everyone would be thrilled if they were all from my own PW.  If you do send one or more in, please include source information that could be handy in captioning (module/PW it's taken from, what visual enhancements were used..overrides/haks that improve the game, your name/handle for credit, etc.).

I sent in a LOT of screenies now.

Only problem is that most of them lack the HUD. Although I think it makes them look better when lacking the HUD a "real" screenshot should probably have it.

Also I think a fair amount of the screenshots should be of the original game (without HAK's). Don't frown on the original game. Some of my screenshots are from there and they are not ugly...even though some of the HAK'ed ones look even better...

The GOG site has some screenshots but they are very low resolution. Perhaps you can find some somehow...what about the ol' fansite kit? Was there screenshots in there?

AD...what happend? ...real life?

Sorry, don't mean to stress....just checking if you're here :-P

Edit: Comment...the link to CTP in the Players section should maybe be changed to the NWVault link page instead?

Actually, I think CTP would prefer that the link stay as it is.  We do have active forums, complete with direct links to the vault downloads as well as Custom Content forums for folks wishing to learn how to do many things with tiles, placeables etc...

As I am sure Project Q would also prefer the links continue to point to their forums.

I'm still around.

Yes, real life happens. :)  I've got four little kids I'm raising, trying to find and buy a bigger house, and I'm working on a ton of stuff for my PW, the monthly CCC, and neverwinternights.info.  Oh, and trying not to get burned out on NWN in the process.

I am slowly building up more information for the neverwinternights.info site...right now I'm converting a series of forum entries from the CCP forum (on creature animation) into a single page tutorial (with the author's permission).  Also looking into the wayback machine site for information from the old site.

If y'all want to post your screenshots (either here or sent to builder@neverwinternights.info) with full credit information...it'd be very helpful.  Credit info requested for each picture: module/PW is was taken from, any known visual overrides used in the screenshot (tileset, gui, etc.), your community name, any other pertinent info.

SuperFly_2000 did send some screenshots in, but the individual images don't have credit information to go with them.

I am still looking at suggestions as they come in, as well.  If you find something you think needs to be included, please post a link to it.  Or, if there's an article/tutorial that would fit nicely, drop a link or write it up in plain text and send it in for inclusion (like I'm doing with the animation tutorial).

As far as the link to CTP, I find their forum to be much more informative than a single Vault entry.  Their forum have links to the files, plus lots of other information.  Same for Project Q.

This is not completely true. My first e-mail clearly show which PW every screenshot is taken from.

My second e-mail however is harder to make out even if most PW's have been mentioned.

Besides...lets not go over the top on the credits part. Most of the screenshots contain mostly default NWN game resources...and even ones that contain HAK content is usually based on the original content or even in turn based on some other peoples work. Let us not forget that most of the credit should go to Bioware still...

Anyway...to bone out my second e-mail, here it is:
163118, 181636, 192245, 192800 - Cormanthor
215627, 211719 - Arbor Falls
201711, 203209, 113221 - Sigil: Planar Legends

Screenshots in my second e-mail not mentioned in the list are from various PW's (Shores of Winter, Ages of Nordock, Dragon Myrth and Pool of Radiance) and and do not contain HAK resources at all.

Anyway #2, I don't think you sholud freeze just because some images lack credits. Just choose the best screenshots and put them there.

We all know who the CC artists are and most of us can even directly by just looking at the screenshot tell if its LoW, Maxam, Six, CEP, Project Q or whatever...

Would it be possibly to add a link to my X-Fire guild page under "Players" and under the part about multiplayer and links for that (or Community Sites).
http://www.xfire.com...s/superfly2000/

Although it does not cover ALL PW's (and it is a bit on the RP side) it covers many new and small ones that are good enough to require more attention. Also it is a way for players to search for servers, chat with each other...or whatever.

Other suggestions:

- Link to the newly formed NWN Facebook group.
http://www.facebook.com/groups/nwncp/

- About multiplayer servers you link to the list on NWVault. Although it is a fairly good list most of the servers mentioned there are not up or the information is not current. This can be confusing...so although I think you can still have the link you should write that much of the information there is old.

You link to the MP/PW section in theese forums which is good. You should also mention that there is a community kept PW list there....

- "Players" and "Get NWN" headers are in bold text and probably shouldn't. Looks like they are selected or something. Perhaps the selected header SHOULD be in bold or something...(anyway...yeye...I know you're still working on the page...doh...so just saying...).
