I absolutely support this thread! I've lost trace of the number of times I had to played through the first 10 minutes of ME2 because I didn't like the way my character looked once I got her into the game.
Either this or a skippable intro so you can go straight into the character creator.

As awesome as this would be, there are still going to be people that scream "OMG, dis doesn't make sense, I need a scientific explanation NOWZ!"

Regardless, sign me up.

I don't think it's that much of a leap from the magical scar-fixing machine we had in ME2.

So bringing a person back from the dead*: A-OK, but plastic surgery is ZOMG MY IMMERSION?

Interesting.

*with virtually no consequence, even.

That got me thinking, with Shep being a Cyborg, what if Shepard gets some tech that is a mimetic poly-alloy (like the T-1000, T-X) in ME3?

Fully support this in ME3. I wish this feature had been implemented into the cabin bathroom in ME2.

@Praetor Shepard: That would be rad as hell but perhaps best saved for Shepard's successor?

@scyphozoa: that's actually a really brilliant idea, since the bathrooms were wasted space.

Yes please. I tired of watching the Normandy blow up for a quarter of an hour every time I wanted to try out a different hairstyle or the like.

I'll take convenience over sporadic insistence on realism.

The device, in the Med-Bay of the SR2, used to remove the scars seems to be an advanced "dermal regeneration unit" so could be some wiggle room with that, and isn't there references to nano technology (I need to check CDN)?

So why not go all the way if Shep already has some cybernetics in his/her face?

I'd just make it OOC myself, something in the options menu that you can change just like Difficulty or Squad Points.

It would seem like the least obtrusive and least resource-intensive way to introduce the feature.

But yeah, medbay surgery works fine.

I'm still perusing CDN, but I found a neat little nugget:

08/07/2010 - Body Modification Using Psyotics a Growing Trend Among Party-Goers

“Psyotics, the latest trend in body modification, is catching on outside the Illium club scene where it first began. This craze has adventurous revelers injecting specialized capsules under their skin that react to certain audio frequencies by lighting up. While the lights can be any color, the most common is a deep purple that mimics the glow of violet-shifted biotics. A single injection typically lasts for the evening, after which the capsules disintegrate. Dr. Frakus Mijier of the Nos Astra Medical Academy cautions party-goers on use of psyotics. "Any untested substance deposited into the bloodstream has side effects, and potentially dangerous ones," he warns. "There is no standardization for psyotics, so those capsules you get on the street could be made out of anything."”

I'd like red myself...

@Upsettingshorts I can't see a logical way of doing this.

@Chewin3 ROFL

You really can't see a logical way of doing this when today we have plastic surgeons fixing severe facial deformities and performing all kinds of cosmetic procedures today in the modern world? We even have robosurgery for chrissake (where surgeons use robotic devices, etc. to perform delicate surgery).

I'm thinking that it's totally possible and logical for doctors hundreds of years in the future to be able to perform even more amazing surgical feats. If Miranda can (practically) raise Shepard from the dead, I'm not really bothered by the idea of nanotechnological wizardry, advanced robosurgical devices and/or Doctor fraking Chakwas operating on Shepard.

Oh I thought you meant going full-on T-1000 including combat-related uses. If it's just something minor that'd be fine.

You could make a thread about how great it would be if Bioware gave out ME3 for free and there would STILL be people ****ing about it.

Yes, for the love of god.

The number one reason I don't use custom faces is because I always discover some problem with them 30 minutes into the game, and I don't want to go through that 25 minute intro again just to try another time.

Yes, agreed. Depending on certain lighting and angles throughout the game, what looked good in the intro often turned out not so hot later on. So I'm game for Dr. Chakwa's Insta-Facial Makeover Machine!

Arguments that it's not technologically feasible is a non-starter. AtreiyaN7 already pointed out they brought back Shepard from the dead.  From...the...dead.

For arguments that it breaks immersion or character...well who says Shepard doesn't suffer from body dismorphic disorder and frets over plastic surgery like Joan Rivers does the night before the Oscar red carpet? And if that's not in character for your Shep, you can always retcon it away in your head--"Mmmm, Shepard never had male pattern baldness....."

And if the idea of a futuristic plastic surgery machine still irks folks, you could always do what they did in ME1 where Shepard's data file was "corrupted" and you had to manually input the data, including your own physical appearance. Maybe EDI had some problems integrating into Normandy's systems which caused a glitch in the personnel files, and there you go....

This suggestion does make sense in terms of the lore, as far as I can tell. After all, during the Lazurus Project, Shepard's appearance was (optionally) altered completely. No reason why there couldn't be some kind of nano-surgery device to do facial modifications at least (probably no gender/skin tone modifications though - that would make much less sense).

I've wanted something like this after around the third time I had to tweak my custom shep because the devious character creation screen lied about the way I would look in game, again. It would be nice if they had this in the game the same way fallout 3 implemented it, a little side quest helping out a crazed doctor and once completed you can remodel your face. Or even just a walk in walk out plastic surgery store. We also need better character customization so all of my shepards don't have ping pong balls stuck to his cheek bones, more male hair styles too.

I agree, gender reassgnment might be a stretch for a frigate's medical bay, but pigmentation?  I'd imagine by Shepard's time they'd isolate the genetic alleles that denote skin pigmentation, and even if not for a medical bay, they probably have an advanced version of a spray tan.
