Have to toss this question out there:
How many gay characters have you seen in media (movies, tv, games, etc) that you thought were tough and respectable in their own right?
I feel this is an important question because they are going to have a character that is gay as an identifying trait and there won't be much respect for him. My impression is he'll end up like Jacob- with tons of haters and only having one or two semi redeeming quotes from near complete obscurity. That or be way overdone.
Now, it's a given that most of the gays you see in media are horrifically stereotypical.. but the only gay character that I thought was kind of badass was Willem Dafoe's character in Boondock Saints, Paul Smecker.
Thoughts?
Gay characters that you thought were tough.

There was that one henchman guy from LOST. Not sure I'd call him "tough", but there wasn't anything stereotypical about him.

Kanji Tatsumi from SMT: Persona 4?
The question mark because, while he is undoubtedly badass, the writers decided to taunt us with sexual ambiguity.
But he's gay.

If you listened to how Vin Diesel talks when he isnt acting you would know right away he is gay.
Acting =/= Real Life

Maybe is his voice, we always heard him talking like a badass but when he speaks freely and untied it is very different.

There was this police officer in 'Six Feet Under.' It's been a while and I didn't follow the series regularly, but he was gay and pretty tough.
