I did not really need that spoiler. I hope that does not happen in the TV series.

If it were going to happen the way it did in the books, it would have happened at the very beginning of Season 2. He's most likely safe.

He should have died in the end of the first season, if the series had been completely faithful to the novels. But the character is too good to disgard, I doubt it will happen now.

There was this police officer in 'Six Feet Under.' It's been a while and I didn't follow the series regularly, but he was gay and pretty tough.
David's boyfriend?

There was that one henchman guy from LOST. Not sure I'd call him "tough", but there wasn't anything stereotypical about him.
Tom Friendly? If so, he was pretty awesome.

He is my favorite character from that show! He seems to be more integral to the plot this season, so I'm happy.
Someone already mentioned Jack Harkness from Torchwood/Doctor Who; he's awesome!
No one has mentioned the gladiator Barca from Spartacus. That makes me sad.

Whether he's actually gay is unclear. We can only speculate at this point. Still, my fingers are crossed.

That was book two. True Blood is in book four and beyond in some of the info. He was the body in Det. Andy Belfleur's car. In the show it was Ms. Jeanette. Or how ever you spell her name.1136342t54 wrote...

No, he would have died at the beginning of season two. The end of season one was the beginning of book two. I'm reading book eleven right now.Russalka wrote...

The books are very different from the show. If you are interested in learning more, just shoot me a PM and I will explain. I think the books are better than the show to be quite honest and Alan Ball has ticked me off on some of the changes he made. Harris, herself, is happy with most of it, 90% I think she said, but I've been wondering what 10% she is unhappy with.Russalka wrote...

Kima Greggs from "The Wire"
Diana Barrigan from "White Collar" is waaaay badass, I agree.
Lisbeth Salander from "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is bisexual.
Tara from "True Blood" is bisexual too... Lafayette was mentioned already, and anyone who says Eric Northman did not have romantic feelings for his very male sire is... fooling himself. Eric's progeny Pamela is a unique brand of Badass Lesbian who wears pink heels.
13 from "House" is bisexual, and although it's sometimes handled badly, she is still a strong character.
Also, if we go gay-targeted media, Brian Kinney gets more tail than any of typical macho heroes, and Emmet Honeycutt is a flaming queen to end all flaming queens and proud of it - in real life it's as badass as you get, honestly.
That said, I really hope no one tries to make "gay" into the "defining characteristic of a character". The point of all of this equality stuff is for people to realize that being gay doesn't define one's character: it only defines who you have relationship with.
