Hey all,

Bought Mass effect 1 retail copy, I've installed the game, and the patch 1.02, but I'm having problems starting the game. When I try the sta(from config or EXE) it says 'Mass effect has stopped working' before it even leaves the desktop and the details of the error say:

My PC is an HP IPOWER G5800.

Intel i7 CPU 860@ 2.80ghz

6.00 GB ram,

ATI Radeon HD5570

64 bit.

Any help would be most appreciated, though I'm not a massive techno whizz, so you may have to bear with me!

Try reinstalling averything by right clicking in run as admin, and install the directx 9 included in the disk.and running the game from the first time as admin too.

Make sure you are also running in XP sp 2(usually) or sp 3 compatibility mode as well.
You may also run the config utility and see if anything looks way out of range there as well. Also you may even try running with only a single core affinity to the game because sometimes multi-core processors will cause an issue since ME1 was designed before they became popular.
