Hmm, so no one got a favorite species in the series? What about Krogan, Asari, Turian, Quarian, Salarian, etc?

Confused, I enjoy both Elcor and Hanar as favorite species.

I like the Geth the best. Can't really have a favourite species other than them because all the other species are made up of billions of individuals, some I like and some I hate.

I'd say Quarians, a large group of ships(what did it say they had like 50,000?) mysterious aliens whose faces noones seen in centuries that have been roaming the galaxy for the last 300 years.Creators of an army of dangerous synthetics...
If only they were ruthless and destructive people wiping out civilizations to try finding a new homeworld they would be perfect imo

The Protheans
Oh right, and why... They are the most enigmatic of all the species, and we know so little about them.

Drell.
Edit: Oh...you asked why.
because they look good and sound good... yes, I am shallow.... also I like an underdog and as a species they're it without being useless/annoying like the volus, hanar and Elcor.

Salarians. Specifically of the scientist variety.
Something about them makes me want to squish they're faces, they're freaking adorable!

Salarians. I have yet to meet one that I haven't instantly loved. The big eyes and voices help, as does their interesting biology.
Hanar. They're some of the most 'alien' aliens we've met so far, and I'm bummed that we didn't even get to talk to one in the second game. Hopefully they'll show up in the third one and make some contributions, especially once they realize what the reapers did to their enkindlers.

The quarians for a variety of reasons.
First up is their lore. It is deep and controversial and always good for starting a debate. Everyone has an opinion on it, a very strong opinion. Some see the quarians as victims, others as villains. The lore for Mass Effect really shines here, tackling mature issues in an intelligent way.
Even the events after the Morning War are fascinating. Namely how the quarians survive and interact with the galaxy. Opinions of them designate them as either victims or villains, and their relationship with the galaxy at large does the same. They are a desperate and needy people, relying on efficient use of trash and charity to survive. Every quarian is precious, every ship. However that desperation has a dark side...
Quarians have a reputation for thievery and underhandedness and, call me a pessimist if you must, but I don't think they earned that reputation unfairly. Even Tali admits to this stereotype being true. What she does is try to justify it, not deny it. Often quarians are turned down for legitimate jobs and they are forced to steal just to survive, let alone find a suitable gift to rejoin their people.
When the quarians enter a star system, they also engage in what can definitely be called coercion. Their fleet clogs up the nearest mass relays for weeks as it slowly passes through, congesting traffic to and from the system housing that relay. The quarains also have a habit of strip-mining every resource they can reach without regard to the environment or the locals who may have an interest in developing there. They do this because, again, they're desperate for raw material and can't afford to be environmentally friendly. The continued survival of their people must come first.
The quarians also have a pool of highly skilled, and cheap, labor. Factories and laboratories near the Migrant Fleet are eager to hire quarian workers because of their expertise and cheap wages. This puts locals out of work, robbing equally needy men and women of their pay checks. Once again, it is not hard to understand why the quarians do this, but we also see that their neediness ultimately harms others.
The quarians do offer an alternative though... if the hosting system will give them donations instead the fleet may decide to go elsewhere, and spare them the trouble. Are these donations made in good will, or are they tribute being paid to a bully? It is no surprise then that the quarians have made few allies in the galaxy. They are only ever tolerated, not welcomed.
Moving beyond their lore, I like their physical design as well. I won't lie, quarian women are attractive. They hit all the right notes for me. Nice curves, interesting voices, and an overall exotic appeal. That's a very shallow reason to like them though.
Beyond that, I think they are designed well. Ultimately they are quite human, but their alien forearms, shins, and suits give them a suitably exotic look that I never mistake them for humans. Not like asari or even batarians who completely mimic the human form in its entirety except for the head. The little touches such as the curved shins and reduced digits do a nice job of keeping them distinct.
The geth are my other favorite race...

Geth.
Truly alien race, every other race has something related to humans in personality and/or traits.
Great visual design.
Love their synthetic mumbling.
Heretics and True Geth conflict.

Reapers. I think taking a villain to that level is something cool. Lets make the villain a mile long ship! That makes robot zombies.
