Bioware did a very good job making them different from humans but at the same time people we could empathize with. Picking one over all the others would be very hard, because no race is really greater or lesser than another.

Except Batarians. F**K Batarians.

I like the Batarian look actually. 4 eyes, spiked teeth, and I like the little bit that Mordin said about their religion. Good species shown in a bad light.

I like batarians because they're underdogs. They stand in stark contrast to humans and the Council races. Even on the forums they get the short end of the stick.

The Geth for me, by far. From the very first time we saw them in footage from ME1 even before the game was out, I HAD to know more about them.

None of the other races have grabbed me quite like that.

I'd like the rachni if we ever actually got to see their technology in action. Otherwise they're just bugs. They're much more interesting as a technological race though, much like the arachnids from the Starship Troopers novel.

Quarians. Nobody likes 'em in ME, and it's a damned shame. Can't really think about anything I disagree with that they've done as a species (Tried shutting down the Geth too late, that's about it), and as to the thievery bit... I've never seen any thieving Quarians in ME, only ones who were poor and/or being taken advantage of, so I'll have to see some proof first. Personally I think it's just because they're so handy at turning junk into useful things and that they're forced to strip resources wherever they go. Plus I want to see them DANCE!

And the Elcor. They're damned cool. An Elcor punch would probably shift a Reaper.

@Saphra

The Collector vessel turned out ot look quite close to what I'd envisiond the Rachni to fly around in, for some reason. Completely agree, I really want to see how they flit across the universe (then again, they repaired that Asari's ship, so maybe standard metal like other races...?)

Your form is fragile. They will preserve your body. They'll tear you apart if they have to.

Sorry, but vorcha are too undeveloped as a race. They are just there to be shot at, which is unfortunate. Batarians were clearly created to be badguys too, but they still have depth. They still have people, characters. The various batarian villains we've met have had understandable motivations (even if detestable). You can talk with them or argue.

You can't do any of this with vorcha. It is a wonder that they are even given names considering all of them behave exactly the same and have exactly the same voice. They've been made out to be too unintelligent to be interesting. They are barely more than animals as it is.

Unfortunate because their biology is kind of interesting... though all they really do is take some of the krogan traits and exaggerate them. They never should have been included in ME2 in my opinion. Same with Drell (for entirely different reasons). In place of them we could have gotten female batarians and turians, two races who should be as gender diverse as humans and quarians are.

It hurts my immersion a bit that we never see any. Especially when they've been present in the novels/books.

I'd have to go with the Turians, they are the extraterrestrial versions of the Roman Empire and its Legions.

The mighty Sangheili!!!!

... Oh, you mean in Mass Effect... right.

Okay in that case, I'm torn between Krogan, Turian and Geth. Though I kind of like all of them in some way.

I like the Krogan because they are tough and cool pissed off turtle men. Plus, I love reptiles and they are among the few races in Mass Effect that are directly identified as being reptiles. So it was sort of an easy win.
There's not really much else to add. I got the figure of Grunt specifically because I felt my household needed more krogans.

I like the Turians as well, largely because they kind of look like Velociraptors. Plus they are a pretty common race in Mass Effect and one member of their race in particular is now the most prominent male alien squadmember in all of the series. That said, I would like to see female turians from time to time.

Finally, Geth. A really well thought out depiction of how a synthetic robotic race might actually work. A lot of thought went in to make the geth seem really strange and alien and unknowable, but it was also cool that unlike in other media, they aren't by default evil for being machines.
True, there are a lot of questionable things that they have done over the years but the fact remains... they don't spend their every waking hour plotting how to kill everyone who dares to smile or enjoy life in any way. In a media saturated with bulk standard 'rah I are robot and evilz!', the Geth stand out as being morally ambiguous.

Which in turn, is why they are great.

Only one of the Vorcha even has a name(Shisk) and he's near pointless due to the fact that his side quest(or whatever it was) was removed. Sadly, as much as I love the Vorcha i'm somewhat sympathethic to your sentiment regarding them being in the game to begin with. It's like what's the point of having them if they're going to be so underutilized? It's the same situation with Morinth as a squadmate.

Still, I'm hopeful Bioware decides to add much needed depth to them in ME3 as there's several major things they can do with them (ex. restoring the Blood Pack under Vorcha rule and recruiting them as shock troops against the Reapers).

The Geth. They started out as simple tools of labor and war, yet look at what they've become. They've learned to develop new, unique technology. They form different opinions about very serious issues, yet they still accept one another since they fully understand each other.

The Heretics worship the Reapers, and the Geth seem to have an interest in Shepard that they don't quite understand. "No data available".
