Is it true NWN2 from Steam will not run without an internet connection to Steam?

im thinking of buying NWN2 platinum from Steam for $13.99 (its on sale at the moment).

but i am worried the game will not run unless every time I start it up, it will need to connect to Steam's server online and authenticate, before it asllows me to enter single or multiplayer and play the game.

i am also worried that Steam will patch the game when i go online without my consent.

anyone know if both of the above may happen?

Steam has offline mode. It can and will deal with you being offline.

Nwn2 will receive additional patches when pigs fly, and despite the presence of wizards in the game, they will not be flying anytime soon. So you don't have to worry about that either. Nwn2 from Steam comes fully patched.

/edit: stupid phone autocorrection...

I didn't know it came fully patched!!! That's a huge plus! Heck, if I ever re-install, I may just buy a steam copy just so I don't have to spend a day updating it!

^^^ yup, fully patched. When I recently upgraded to win7 I installed the copy I bought on Steam just because it's fully patched out of the box. They also seem to have fixed the issue with sounds not playing in the toolset due to file location.

Don't be too proud of this techno service of Steam. Next to the power of the Force it is nothing.

Buying NWN2 Platinum (NWN2 + MotB + SoZ) is cheaper than just SoZ on its own. Even with my love of boxes, manuals and shiny disks, I'm tempted to get it on Steam myself so I don't have to wait for delivery, if they'll even deliver to me (apparently SoZ is banned in the UK). I can't say I approve of all this new-fangled technology, though. Gone are the days of having to change disk when you reach Beregost...
