And I'd still argue that at least the presentation in the beginning goes so over the top it is too easy to just brand her as fanservice instead of an actual character - and first impressions do mean quite a lot, bit like when you first met Morrigan - while she was wearing rather revealing clothes, the way she acted and everything told me she wasn't just a pair of boobs.

When you first meet Isabela, she's drinking ale in a bar and beating the crap out of a couple of dudes because they wanted her to pay them for failing.

Her original outfit, the one she has before joining the guard, was certainly not battle appropriate though.

I'm entirely certain that the reason it wasn't was because she literally didn't have the time or opportunity to prepare.

She fought at Ostagar though, so she should've had some sort of armor

Act III was fanservice?!

I've seen some say it panders to those with anti-mage sentiments.

Though, most say it was just rushed.

I'm going more with "rushed", like the majority of the game was.

She isn't against armor.  If she wasn't wearing it, it was because she didn't have it on hand.  Simple as that.

I can understand that, but I don't get why the devs didn't give her some sort of armor when we first meet her. It didn't have to be her unique look, but at least something to make her look like a soldier.

Because they wanted to make it clear she was in a hurry to escape, evidenced by her lack of full preparation?

Actually, when you first meet Isabela she's...  okay, beating the crap out of some dudes there too.  But about 2 seconds after speaking to her, she'll hop into bed with the Warden.  Even upto a foursome.  I think that's where the first impression comes from.  She was in Origins, however briefly.

It appears to be studded leather armor actually. Just really stupid studded leather armor.

Yep.  They lost at Ostagar, she fled (likely stripping her armor for a number of reasons) to try and find her husband in Lothering.  By the time they reunited, the area was overrun by Darkspawn and they had to flee.  Hence their predicament at the start of DA2.  Or so that's what I figure.

Whatever their reason, I doubt it was to make Aveline "titillating."

Wouldn't the fact her casual outfit includes studded leather make her unusually combat appropriate?

We can give Isabella to the Arishok, even though it's very wrong.

We can sell Fenris back to Denarius, even though it's very wrong.

HOW COME WE CAN'T GIVE ANDERS TO THE TEMPLARS? We'd have much more reason to do that then to do either of those other things.

Oh, right, because then everyone would and the Act 3 finale wouldn't happen. Damn you plot contrivance! Damn youuu!

I would be happy with just being able to tell Anders (after the romance and he moves in) "Get the Hell out of my house and don't come back!"

You just described 90% of women in the fantasy genre, at least as far as dress and physical design. I think Meredith is the only woman I've seen that fights in something that looks even vaguely appropriate for battle.

Um, Aveline?

Isn't Isabella's favorite way of pissing off Aveline saying she looks manish?

In my games I always kill the Arishok , if he told Hawke at any point of the tombs theft or asked for help I might feel different about it but he said he alone had to find it but yet dose nothing for three years then takes it out on Kirkwall , He's a bully and needed to be taken out of the picture but I wish instead of killing him I could have cut off his horn's and sent him back to Parvolen in shame they would have killed him anyway but they would also know there army was beaten by a Human; message sent !!!

This was actually a buzzkill moment.

Still, in Act 3, I'd have liked the option to see Hawke take the slaver documents and tell Castillion that he/she would see that they're turned over to the authorities in Ferelden and the Free Marches, after he left with Isabela and never came back. In the end, the Qunari would have the Tome of Koslun, but would have to find a new Arishok, Castillion (along with his ships) would be "Persona non Grata" and Isabela would have received her just desserts for all the lying and deaths she caused due to her and Castillion's selfishness and self absorption.

If you can give Fenris back to his slave Master, why not this?

I would have liked this option.

I'm actually a little torn over giving her to the Arishok.

On my first playthrough she never came back, so I ended the game cursing her for a skanky thief.

But if she is decent enough to come back, then it still does gall me a little to slap her redemption in her face and hand her over (added to which, her reported escape make the Qunari sound like incompetent jackasses). But on the other hand, I don't like the fact that if I don't hand her over she totally gets away with what she did. Even Aveline softens to her and becomes her bff in act 3 rather than 'kicking her ass' like she promised.

In truth, I didn't turn her over to the Arishok, because I was still miffed about him trying to capture/kill me in the compound. I also wanted the Qunari to have (and keep) their relic. That was more important to me than saving her... Unfortunately, they weren't mutually exclusive.

In retrospect, and upon deeper consideration, you can't really put all of what happened during the Qunari crisis on her. She honestly had no idea about the relic's whereabouts until she mentions it to you. At least part of the blame could be just as easily laid at the (cold dead) feet of that **** Petrice and her zealots. Nothing pleased me more than seeing Elthina go "gangster" on her... Justifiably so.

At the end of the day, what annoys me about Isabela is that even in the aftermath, she shows some regret, but is still the same flippant, self-indulgent, hussy that she always was. It's why my Hawke always treats her with disdain... And before anyone gets on my case about this, it's not because she's that kind of woman. It's because she's that kind of 'character'... The word "hussy" notwithstanding.

I protected Isabella, and I'd do it again. The Arishock had what he came for, there was no way I was going to give over someone who'd fought at my side and, albeit a little slower than I'd hoped, did the right thing in the end. Furthermore, I liked Isabella. She does have more morals than people give her credit for. She could have kept Merrill's precious item that she'd one in cards, but she didn't. She gave it back with a bit of sage advice. She also, if you hook up with Merrill, didn't have to threaten a male Hawke's most treasured items. She did. I doubt she'd have actually done it, but it does show that she actually cares about the people surrounding her.

Sure, when the chips were down, she chose to save her own skin rather than bring the book back to the Qunari. But that's a tall order to ask of anyone when your life is on the line.

EDIT:  This situation does reveal a bit of hypocrisy when it comes to the Arishock.  He refused to turn over the elf fugitives because they'd accepted the Qun and thus they fell under Qunari jurisdiction.  When it came to Isabella, he wanted the book and the thief, so that she could be punished under Qunari law.  But she's not a Qunari, so should she be afforded the same respect the Arishock demanded for the elven fugitives?
