I checked my registered game promotions and it had all the stuff I had plus one item that says:

UNRECOGNIZED ITEM
An unknown promotional item has been found. Urecognized items will still be available and recognized by the system and game they are intended for.

Could be you just have to log into the game once it shows up.

I have that listed but only under PC.  Unfortunately, I don't have the PC version and it doesn't show up under the PS3 listings.

Personally confirmed to work without authorization:

The Edge

The Wicked Oath

The Mark of Vigilance

The Lion's Paw

If you install something that needs authorization (eg. The Guildmaster's Belt), it simply says "unauthorized" in the installed content section of the game and you won't get it. It doesn't harm anything. It would be nice if we were able to uninstall dazips though, as to remove it from the listing altogether, but not big deal.

When I got the email for "The Edge" I immediately deleted because I assumed that the offer only applied to new purchases/registration.

Perhaps it would be nice if someone who bought the game new could tell us whether they have the item?

Also, I don't know if the "UNRECOGNIZED ITEM" on my game promotion page has anything to do with this, but contrary to what some may have thought, it is not new. I've had it since the day I got this game, November 9th (I preorded from Newegg and it took them a few days after release to ship it). I would be nice though if someone from Bioware could confirm whether the UNRECOGNIZED ITEM is supposed to correspond to anything, because it does not provide me with anything.

Just delete the AddIn's folder under MyDocuments/Bioware/DragonAge/AddIns

Not sure, but have a sneaking suspicion that the unrecognised item refers to the blood armor, in other words it might be a place holder for those with EA accounts to link to the Mass Effect equivalent when that game releases.

Again, just a guess.

Thank you! Nice to see it's organized nicely so I can just delete the guildmasters belt one :)

Extract it and copy everything from the Addins folder to My Documents /Bioware/DragonAge/Addins

Tried that, nothing's working.

I have the steam version, so I have to go through steam/steamapps/etc

I'm assuming these items aren't that great anyway...

Just use the daupdater program!  For normal installations, it's just <wherever you installed DA:O>/bin_ship/daupdater.exe.

Run that program, drag all of the .dazip files into it, highlight them, and click the install button.  It's really, really easy.

Anyway, some of the items are quite good.

So here's a question? If you do install the DLC that does not require authorization using the DA updater. Does it automatically bind that DLC to your bioware account like the rest of the DLC? or If you delete them locally you cant re-download them automatically using the ingame DLC manager?

Thanks, but you must have missed the part where I was told this a million times and I tried that a million times and it never worked Image IPB

Partly because all these "dazip" files aren't even dazip at all.  All they are are different files that are "suppose" to go in the addins folder, but even that doesn't work.

So people are skipping vital steps somewhere, and are refusing to tell people them.

Again:
  • Internet Explorer thinks it's better not to bother you with unknown file extensions and auto-renames anything it recognizes as a disguised zip file into .zip for your convenience
  • Windows thinks its better not to bother you with file extensions at all and hides known extensions like .zip, to prevent you from accidentally renaming them into something else.

The solution is to tell windows that you're an emancipated user:

1. Download it and store it somewhere.

2. Open windows explorer, go to "Extras" go to "Folder Options" go to "View" and disable "Hide Known Extensions" (Actual words may vary, I don't have an english Windows)

Once you're done,  the file shows as dao_prc_promo_vgl.zip instead of  dao_prc_promo_vgl

3. Right click on the file and select "Rename"

4. now rename it from dao_prc_promo_vgl.zip to dao_prc_promo_vgl.dazip

5. drag and drop into the daupdater window

Use Firefox, like 90% of true PC Gamers. The end.

If you download the DLC items via the Internets they will not bind to your account nor will they automatically download (id est you will have to install them again via the .dazip files or a simple drag-and-drop into the addins folder). :innocent:

I've downloaded those files multiple times, including right after reading your post, and I get dazip files every time, so whatever the issue is it's on your end. No one is skipping any steps and refusing to tell you about it. Something about your computer is converting the files for whatever reason.

I'd say to stop using Internet Explorer, but that might not be an option. If that's the case, there's probably an option somewhere in Internet Explorer to disable the automatic rename that it's doing. Failing that, just show file extensions in Windows Explorer and change them yourself. The files in the links are exactly the .dazip files that you need and it really doesn't matter where you save them, at all.

Don't unzip them manually. Let the daupdater tool do it for you.

No, I didn't get an e-mail.  I think you only get the e-mail if you subscribe to their newsletter.  Even then, I think a lot of people haven't received it.

Where did you get the information on "The Edge"?
I can't find any official announcment stating that "The Edge" is available from Novermber 20th to 30th, if ordered from

"*To receive the item, users must login to social.bioware.com and
register the game by entering their unique CD key (PC) or UPC code
(Xbox 360®/PLAYSTATION®3) before November 30, 2009. Then use the same
login information within the game and the item will appear on the
in-game Downloadable Content screen ready to download. This applies to
all accounts created before November 30, 2009."

Yes you're right, it should be available to everyone who registers the game between yesterday
(date of the spa^J newsletter) and Nov 30.

You could delete your current account and register again, but you will lose Shale and the blood dragon armor that way. Of course they may be so nice to give it to those who registred earlier as well, but begging would be a better course than demanding.

If that is so, then what the console users are complaining about is that  PC users don't have to wait for authorisation by Microsoft/Sony.

And those who still crave the dagger: do yourself a favor and wait at least for level 10 before you activate it.

Newsletter was sent out on November 20th and that's when EA decided to give out this item rather than during release. This does NOT mean, we had to buy and/or register between Novermber 20th and 30th. You will get it if you register your game before the 30th.

I pre-ordered Dragon Age, so I bought and registered the game before November 20th and I got the item under my account after contacting EA to have the item added to my account manually.

Furthermore, I want to confirm that "Unrecognized Item" you see under your account is NOT "The Edge".
I also have the "Unrecognized Item" and I had it since I first registered the game.
Like I said before I contacted EA to manually have "The Edge" added to my account, now I have a separate icon and description for "The Edge" as well as the "Unrecognized Item".

Wait, sorry if I skipped something important. But are we supposed to contact EA to get the edge added? Or are we all waiting on some patch?

My guess is that EA haven't started adding this item to our accounts yet.
There wouldn't be a patch, since item is added to your accountj and once that happened, the item downloaded and appeared in-game just fine.

You can either call and get them to add it for you manually (e-mail takes forever for them to address you and phone call queue is about... 20 minutes.) or wait and see if they'll apply it to everybody's account.

They are and they aren't but I know what you problem is.  When you save the files you need to change the file type to "All Files" then you need to add -----------  .dazip  -----------  as the file extension otherwise windows will try to save it as a zip file.

Once the extension  is .dazip instead of .zip, they all work.

It is only my guess that they have yet to start the distribution of this item, I don't know if EA have or have not started to disbribute this item out to us. I'm not even sure if they have it in their plans to do so in the future.
Unlikely, but maybe there was a bug when the item was distributed to our accounts and they don't even know about it.
Who knows?

When I called EA, the customer representative did not even know what "The Edge" was at first, I had to explain it to him and he had to ask his supervisor to confirm. He didn't mention anything about when the item will be implemented and even if I would've asked him, I don't think he would've had an answer for me.

One thing is obvious, they have the item implemented already, they already made an icon/description for it on this site and it does carry over to in-game without a problem. So... My guess was that, since nobody has it yet and when I called they had to manually implement it for me, it's just not distributed to the players yet.
