Actually it would be fun if during the Trial Shepard experiences a flashback and we get to play Akuze and all the other ones.

I'd love to be able to play through Torfan.

Since indocrination has hallucinations as being part of it, having Shepard replaying through Torfan / Akuze / Elysium would be entertaining as part of the indocrination thing. Just to show that Shepard isn't completely immune to indocrination.

No, please no, not that. Leave it be. Leave something to the imagination.

Got to echo that sentiment. Don't want every part of Shepard's history spelled out. Leaving this events a little ambiguous allows you to roleplay your own spin on how it might have gone

Exactly. I have more fun trying to imagine the specifics of how Torfan went down and the events influencing it. If Bioware makes it an actual mission my options will be limited.

There were two announcements on the citadel news thing saying for Earthborn that the "Shepard Scholarship" or something was made to help children off the streets.
Or for Spacer, "Hannah Shepard(your mum) was offered the rank of Captain" or something but she didnt accept.

But yeah I would LOVE a flashback mission.

some say Sheps history is unimportant? A footnote?
Hell, in my mind it what makes my character what he is! Its the pre-service history and the background what defines me as Shepard. Its reflected in every decision, the role I play. Wether I choose paragon or renegade...
Its not a footnote to me.

I actually consider the preservice history to be a "proto-origin" something they started with ME and perfected with DAO.  Granted the ME wasn't  a major deal, I still liked it.  Even though I don't actually witness it, It still adds a level of depth to Shepard.  It gives the character a sense of place in the galaxy .  "Okay this is what happened.  How does it affect my Shepard?"  Sure actually seeing it could have been better, but what we got I thought gave ME a good "in media res" feel.

The term perfecting gives Mass Effect a bit too much credit here. What was done in Origins took ME's attempts to a completely different scale.

The problem is that the pre-service history doesn't add anything to the story.

I saw Saren raze Eden Prime. I found evidence showing he was a traitor. I was made a Spectre. I watched a squadmate die on Virmire. And I was the reason why the battle of the Citadel was a success. Because I played through these events, they are much more meaningful.

None of those things apply to pre-service history. The game mentions it a few times, and slightly alters a side quest.

Because of this, when I joined Cerberus, I'd completely forgotten that I was a sole survivor because it was minor. When I was killing batarians, I'd forgotten that  I was responsible for Torfan. They were gimmicky, rather than treated as a serious aspect of the storyline.

Flash back mission for ME3 ftw?

Should have been done 'during' the Lazarus Project.

As for backgrounds and psych profiles, I think I would have preferred the series without them: their value, especially after how Akuze was handled in ME2, does not weigh enough to justify not simply giving us a blank slate Shepard.

The Battle of the Citadel happened. Everything before it is a footnote.

Pretty much this. At ME's start, the pre-service record was Shepard's claim to fame. By ME2, he's more widely recognized for his role in the battle of the Citadel.

Personally, even with each unique side quest, I didn't think the preservice history was that important to my character. I'd like it to be mentioned in ME3, but I won't be choked up if they leave it out. Shepard's got bigger things on his mind than Torfan.

Akuze. Sole Survivors' connection to Cerberus.

Nothing? Nope? Screw it, I tried.
:?

To be fair, it's not like ME1 ever gave you a chance to be angry at the Alliance on account of when Cerberus did Akuze, it was an Alliance organ.

if you let the council die in ME1 and choose the paragon option during the interview with that nosy reporter on the citedal, Shepard will say something about his/her pre-service hisrory in the interview.

here is an example.
