I was just wondering if summoning the mabari to fight has any effect on the amount of xp you get from killing things? I don't think it does, but just checking if anyone knows for sure.

I couldn't find anything that directly confirms or denies this, but considering that the Mabari in DA2 acts like a sustained ability, I would venture to say no - it does not affect your XP. I think experience is acquired much in the same way as it is in DA:O - by defeating an enemy, completing a quest, opening a lock, etc.

Per the wiki, in DA2, XP is given to all companions across the board and "There is no advantage to maintaining one group through the game, so the party can be changed to maximize Friendship or Rivalry, or to use a better skill set for certain battles." So looking at that last bit there, about the skill sets, I would probably lump the Mabari in as a skill set, therefore not contributing to XP.

But this is far from being an official answer. ^_^

You forget one thing.

In Dragon Age: Origins you would loose xp pre patch when a summoned pet killed something.

In this game you don't get XP per kill but for every dead enemy when a fight is over. This means that there is no XP for it to consume.
