I'm pretty sure my PC meets the requirements to run ME2, and I am playing the demo version (1.01) from Steam. I recently figured how to get the cofiguration utility to work (run as admin) and i set every video setting to the lowest. However, when I click "Play" in the launcher, a window pops up saying "An unidentified program [MassEffect2.exe] wants access to your computer." I click the "allow" option, the launcher dissapears for a second, then reappears without launching the game. Does anyone know any fixes to this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

EDIT: My specs:
Processor/Clock Speed/RAM: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU     P8400  @ 2.26GHz / 2259 MHz / 2.87GB
Display Adapter/VRAM/Driver version: Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family / 1.30 GB / 7.15.10.1493
Sound adapter/Driver Version: Speaker/HP (Realtek High Definition Audio / 6.0.1.5610

Config Utility | Platform Tab
Operating Utility: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium  Service Pack 2 (6.0.6002)
DirectX Version: DirectX 11 (Aug2009) or later

sorry about the confusion!

Follow Pacifien's instructions. Pinned up on top.

Sorry, I don't mean to be annoying at all, but i couldn't find the instructions. I got info on the 1.01 patch, but nothing on how to fix my problem. If you or someone could give me link or point me in the right direction, that would be really helpful. Thanks!

EDIT: I updated the demo, but now I get an error saying: Failed to authenticate disk. Please insert the correct dick and try again. Does this have to do with me updating the demo?

The instructions to which Gorath is referring, is Pacifiens guide on how to report a problems, also known as the "*Read First* How to Report Issues for a PC Version of Mass Effect 2" thread.

I thought I did, but I'll check the instructions again and see what I missed. :)

EDIT: Right, didn't see the thing on system specs. Sorry, guys!

I always include the System Requirements as part of what I include when I create a "Read me first". I will have to re-read Pacifien's version again, I suppose.

(Edited in about 20 minutes later: she did have a simplified copy of the requirements included, which omitted the very last, telling sentence, about Intel and S3 IGPs.)

Intel is not a 3D game company and doesn't care whether their video will work for a game such as this one. It is purely up to the prospective buyers for various computing systems to recognize Intel's ineptitude, hypocrisy, and general unethical behavior, and make better choices in the marketplace to put them out of business, or at least to so educate themselves to avoid Intel's crap until they become more user oriented and less avaricious.

Only AMD and nVIDIA produce game-capable 3D graphics cards, and only standard desktop style PCs allow easy graphics upgrades.

PC MINIMUM System Requirements
OS = Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Processor = 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory = 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Hard Drive = 15 GB
DVD ROM = 1x Speed
Sound Card = DirectX 9.0c compatible
Direct X = DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included)
Input = Keyboard / Mouse
Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater(**); ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce G.205, G.210, 310, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9100, 9200, and 9300; ATI Radeon X1300, X1550, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4350, and (probably) HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

(**)Two of the Geforce 6800s are worse than the next-lower Geforce game card, the 6600 GT, and should be avoided (6800 SE, 6800 XT).

So this means that my computer won't run ME2 because of my graphics card?

Yes. Well your computer doesn't have a graphics card it has an intergrated chip which is not made for playing games. A lot of pre built rigs come bundled with intergrated graphics which cannot handle more than buisiness level graphics. You'll want to source yourself a graphics card if you have a desktop computer.

Ok, thanks. I knew I had an intergrated chip, and I had heard things about them and the ME games on PC, I was just holding onto hope, so to speak, until I was really told that they wouldn't work. Which is a real bummer, because I love the games on the Xbox, but I don't have my Xbox at the mo...
