I want game companies to push the limits of the PC's hardware again like they used to. But obviously BW is a company that is not willing to do that.

So, I settle for a high resolution texture pack for DA3. This time it should be consistent and all textures should get that treatment. Such packs should also be available for its DLCs.

No point in putting all this effort in for the few legit PC gamers when most of you guys just steal your games. (not implying it doesn't happen on consoles too; you guys just do it far more than we do)

Also, consoles generally make them more money.

What we want are the original textures, not the twice-ported textures we end up getting.
Hi-res texture created.
Condensed, and ported across to xbox.
Ported back to PC.

Modern PC's are capable of handling the original textures, but for some reason we cant use them. Possibly because the outcry from the console herd would be too loud for anyone in EA/Bioware to bear.

Exactly that. I'm looking at some of the published material and its crispy graphics ..... and then I could cry knowing that most likely I'll never get to see them in my game, even it would be no problem at all for my PC to handle.

Besides that, the 360 is getting old. It makes no sense to reduce graphics quality for all just for the sake of an outdated gaming platform.

The biggest problem with the textures is not that they are low-res but that they are inconsistent. Faces are high-res, clothing is not. This contrast is very distracting. The texture quality is fine during combat, but not in cinematics when we get close-ups. If I worked in the cinematic department I wouldn't even dare zoom in on a Blue Sun character.

Is that why Steam made 1 billion in sales for 2010?

Maybe you right and Steam should of made around 5 Billion.

Most PC gamers steal games? Where did you find those stats?

Its funny just read a article from fable 3 combat producer or some such about second hand 360 sales more costly then PC piracy but any ways. Would love ME 3 with Hi-res textures and maybe consistent secondary source shadows.

Don't derail this thread. Go start a nice console thread somewhere. We don't need your PC/console warmongering.

I'm not going to start a debate on Piracy however i will leave you with this:

The type of people that choose to pirate video games, are NOT platform exclusive. These type of people will pirate their desired video game in anyway possible, on their desired platform.. simply because they don't care about the industry, all they want is the free game.

It's a common misunderstanding that PC Games don't make enough Money to be worthwhile, however PC Games & Console Games have two completely different business models. Each with their own benefits.

Console Games have a short shelf-life, they will sell very well in the first few months post-launch, however will rapidly decline thereafter. Used Games also take a great deal of revenue away from Publishers & Developers.

PC Games have a Long shelf-life, They typically won't sell as much as Consoles in the first few months, however due to Digital Distribution & Modding, they will still sell steadily, long after their console counterpart has been condemned to the Bargain Bin.

All i'm saying is that console players make do with what appareantly pc gamers consider mediocre, or just ok, yet we still have a blast gaming and are where most games are now for the most part made for and simply updated for pc, why are graphics such a huge deal? I can barely tell the difference between a good game on a console and a good game on pc

It's not that PC Gamers value Graphics over Gameplay..

As PC Gamers alot of us often invest significant amounts of money into our gaming rigs. We want to be able to use these Rigs to their fullest potential, however we're unable too due to Publisher/Developer choosing not to fully support the PC Version.

Due to the Xbox 360's age, Developers are often forced to sacrafice High Resolution textures, Anti-Aliasing amongst other graphical improvements, in order to extend the lifespan of Xbox 360's Obsolete Hardware. A great deal of games are still rendered 720p and then upscaled, simply due to outdated hardware. These "Tricks" aren't as noticable on Consoles for a variety of reasons, predominantly because of the distance between the gamer and screen.

Unfortunately alot of these "Tricks" are transfered to the PC Version, where it is quite noticable and entirely unnecessary. Essentially 6 years of innovation is ignored.

No warmongering. Played Me 1 and 2 on the 360 till they killed it. then on the PC still. Would truly truly love to see My Shepard Vanguard handle a reaper in Gloriously high, pore showing, res, with the shadow detail to match.

Thing is though; do any of those fancy innovations make a game better? Don't get me wrong, I like pretty pictures as much as the next guy, but in terms of making a game good and fun pretty much all of those innovations are useless and can be ignored.

Ignored I think overstating it. Some innovations can turn a ho hum game it to something you still giggle about years later. A rag doll effect that causes a just killed wolf to tumble tail over nose down a mountain at you.

Edited for gammer.  Would love to claim this isn't my native tongue but saddy it is.

Its not that its useless and can be ignored. Most Developers release their games for consoles. Instead of creating new ideas to pushing the bounderies of hardware and gaming (throw in physics, destructibility as part of gameplay instead of just being there for example). They make do in what hardware power the console gives. Look at BF3. It has destructibility, it means you can't hide in the same small cover forever. You have to adjust your playstyle to adapt to whats destroyed and whats still standing. What if Shepard cover can be destroyed? What If Shepard can destroy enemy's cover? If for example Bioware had their hands on graphics Frostbite2/CryEngine3 provide. Imagine what would the Battle of Ostagar look like, what would the Battle of Citadel look like? Imagine Bioware telling a story using that kind of graphical level.

;)

He did a great job but Texmod isn't entirely stable. It would be much more convenient if the Mass Effect team released their game by today's standards. The Dragon Age team acknowledged the strengths of the PC platform by releasing it with DirectX 11 features and by putting a texture patch online. Not that ME3 needs DirectX 11 in my opinion, but the textures should be pretty high on their priority list when it comes to graphics.

I would love to see a hi-res pack. The textures, especially clothing textures in ME 1&2 are awful. Anybody who's played Witcher 2 maxed; will know just how far behind the times they are. It's not going to happen though. EA are calling the shots these days.

I finished it, the day before he DX11 and hi-res release. I looked at the eye candy, I can run with everything max with no problems, it looked great, would I play it again.........Crysis 1 was better and longer, enough said.

Jeanluc's hi-res are awesome. I have never had a problem with Texmod. There is that ATI issue, but I am using Nvidia, so no problems.

I think we using PCs should get something. PC games used to be $10 cheaper than consol due to no fee to MS or Sony, or whatever fee it is. Now the games are the same price, give us something for the $10.

Actually the problem is that they are same res. :)
I mean, 1024 on face is enough, 1024 on body is surely not. I don't need DX11 because I'm sure they won't use tesselation anyway, other DX11 features are skippable. DX9 on the other hand supports 8192 textures, that's more than enough. JeanLuk made 4096 texture and they look awesome, if the only there was a way to use them without texmod.

Sometimes I get the feeling lobby groups of video games and music are the reapers of our world and continously try to indoctrinate the willing. Who am I kidding, not just sometimes.

I love it that every thread that's specific to either pc or console gets the same comments over and over again.

I would love to see a high texture pack for ME3 and DX11 support would be greatly appreciated if done right.
DX11 has some fine things to offer and the effects can look awesome if they are well implemented.
Even if they stick to the old engine and dx9 I wouldn't mind it that much, as long as they include High Res textures or deliver them as an update. I thought ME2 looked awesome for a big part, like most faces and stuff but there were some really low res textures and they just looked wrong in a so good looking game.

Yes, release HD textures please. On disc for the retail copy, or as an optional download. Some people use ancient computers still, so an optional download might make more sense.

It's terrible that such a beautiful game is marred by horrendous low-res textures.

it would be the exact same story, but with a few extra sparkly effects added. Woohoo! Excitement.

Competent controls, fun gameplay, good looking art, solid gamedesign, compelling writing. Those are the things that can make a game good or bad. Not bloom, tesselation and bazzilionxhumongous textures.
