Through meeting shepard Thane potentially finds a friend or even lover and gets talking to his son again.  Some might think that that change in his life and persepective would lead to his changing his mind about the treatements he's refusing (transplant) and choose to extend his life.  By extending his life he may go on to live to see a real cure in the future, this isn't miraculous... this is pretty logical.

In may ways Thane as a character is defined by his terminal illness in ME2. From a storytelling perspective a cure would render Thane's terminal illness plotline of ME2, completely pointless. Why even give the character a terminal illness if you are going to wave a magic wand and have it cured? I'm against Miranda's infertility being cured for similar reasons, though her infertility played a much smaller role in her characterization. (you only find out about it in the Shadow Broker's dossier)

I don't normally facepalm, but damn son... :pinched:

Rather than repeating what I (and others) have explained a gazillion times before, I *highly* suggest that you fire up ME2, grab a FemShep and give Thane's romance a shot. I am sorry if you have romanced him already, but if you have not (as I'm sure you haven't), then do it and get back to us.

... Since when was a lung transplant (mentioned in Thane's dossier) a 'magic wand'

Thane's disease made him re-evaluate his life and has to an extent defined his actions prior and during ME2 these changes have happened, and would not be cancelled out by his life being prolonged.

I've done every romance (morinth not withstanding) and I'd have to say Jacob is the best. He's got himself together and doesn't let his LM change him in anyway, he takes it for what it is and is over it when the Alliance ships get the crew off world. He also lets Shepard vent her problems instead of venting his to her. He also says I love you during the romance seen and he's the only one to do so (which was a pleasant surprise for me when I tried him) He's not my favorite (that spot is a tie between Ashley and Miranda) but he's the best.

Thane has a terminal illness from which there is no known cure.

The lung transplant is option to extend his life, not  cure him. I was pretty clear in defining a cure only as a wave of a magic wand.

Because the drell ancestors emerged from arid, rocky deserts, the humid, ocean-covered hanar homeworld of Kahje proved tolerable only when the drell stayed inside a climate-controlled dome city. The leading cause of death for drell on Kahje is Kepral's Syndrome, caused by cumulative long-term exposure to a humid climate. This syndrome erodes the ability of drell lungs to take in oxygen, and eventually spreads out to other organs. It is noncommunicable, and there is currently no known cure, though leading hanar scientific authorities are working on creating a genetic adaptation.

If people just exchanged tech with the Geth Thane could get himself an awesome robot body!

It has to be Liara for me, she's been my LI on almost all characters bar few crap run throughs just to check everyone / everything else lol. Thane and Garrus's was kinda cool considering the buildups Miranda's was good but could have been so much more. Tali is just "Awww" what can you say she's just too nice :P. Ashley/Kaidan's was okay but spoilt greatly by horizon. Jacob is boring typical jarhead style i dunno just annoys me ;(.

Ash & Miranda, followed closely by Jack.

If he got a transplant he may later be cured.

I have no problem with Thane dying in certain circumstances, why on earth do you care if he lives through ME3 (including the epilogue) in other circumstances... is it good that Kolyat be orphaned???  Personally in my games I'd hardly bat an eyelid if Liara or Tali die some heroic death but I'd certainaly not want it to be canon.  I want everyone to be able to enjoy ME3 equally... i'm generous that way ^_^

Mine is between Ashley and Miranda. I suppose Miranda is the best of my romances because she doesnt do the lame poetic lines with me or get angry at me like Ash did. (although i totally understand Ashley's anger).  Those 2 are very similar though which is probably why im always drawn to them both. They both believed they were not really good enough in any aspect. Ash, because she always felt like making up for her family blacklist, and Miranda because she  viewed her genetic enhancements as the only things that made her great, lacking the potential to lead with full respect. Most likely i picked Miranda because she was willing to give things up for me, Ash is and always will be an Alliance Marine even though she knows the alliance has their head up their (explative) half of the time. Miranda eventually saw (through Shepard's actions) that Cerberus was not the place for her and that she will go wherever Shep decides to go.

Hard to say. My main Shep has been single for the past two games, holding out for Ash. I liked either her romance or Jack's best, but I don't like that playthrough because I don't like playing maleShep.
Out of what there was on offer for femShep, perhaps Garrus or Thane? I prefer Garrus as a character, and the whole friends-with-benefits aspect of it was great, but they barely got any decent conversations. As for Thane, I like the difficulty of the fact he's a widower with a child and a terminal disease (makes for an interesting enough story aspect). And he's not bad to look at. Image IPB

I would say Kaidan Alenko. In the first game, while I really like Liara, I just never wanted to romance her...both times I've played it through, it just didn't seem right for my Shepards. So I romance again...twice, and intend to for all proceeding playthroughs ;-). I did romance Garrus in Mass Effect 2, just because I really liked him in the first game and wanted to see what it would be like to romance him in the second game...it was good. But I felt kind of guilty for being unfaithful to Kaidan, so from now on...It's all Kaidan goodness for me! He's loyal, he's considerate, he's honourable, and I don't understand these haters! How could you not love a character like that? Suffice to say, I romanced him because I was drawn to him...and I wasn't dissapointed.

Well seeing how I've got one femshep with Kaidan, one FemShep with Liara and also one MShep with Liara I'd have to say Liara and Kaidan never wanted or felt the need to romance any of the others.

Miranda. She's the only female LI that doesn't seem to be either a stalker (Tali and Liara) or has personality problems (Ashley and Jack). And she's the only one that isn't affriad to disagree with Shepard or challenge his decisions.

Liara & Kaidan for me, have tried the rest but they just aren't as appealing. They both fit very well with my two Shepards (renegon Sheploo and paragon femshep). IMO the different ideologies (especially so in ME1) of Liara and renegade Shep makes for a more dynamic relationship, that in some ways helps explain the change Liara undergoes in-between games. The whole socially awkward virgin thing was pretty lame, but there is more than that to her personality and ME2 + LotSB more than make up for it. Thus far Bioware has put more effort into Liara than any other character (aside from Shepard o' course), which makes her a pretty easy choice.

Kaidan has the best romance out of all the male romance options in both games. He has a decent sense of humor, the relationship develops in a very natural way, and above all it is just fits with my femsheps character. Honestly I choose the romances that would work best for my Shepards, not the ones I would likely be most interested in in real life. My two Shepards are my favorite characters in ME far and away, likely because I put much more thought into their personal motivations and histories than any other characters in the series.

Not Mass Effect 3 related.

End of line.
