Garuus would be a good choice, same for Ashley/Kaiden if they are as good as they seem to be in ME3, and a reformed Zaeed would probably make a good choice. Oh, and Wrex, just cause ya know, he's Wrex and all.

Wrex should be a hell of a replacement. He knows how to control a race that's been considered one of the biggest treats to the galaxy ever, the Krogan. He could do marvels while leading other races that are smarter and more organized than the Krogan, plus all the experience and combat he's seen through all the centuries of his life gives him an edge above almost any other race.

Hell, he could be the head of the council if that were up to me.

In battle situation

Garrus
Miranda
Wrex
Jacob
Zaeed
VS
Mordin
Tali

Outside the battle...... no one is good. Shepard was the only one who kept the team together. Without him/her things wouldn't work. Anyway if you had to choose, then it's Garrus or VS (if they truly are spectres) and Mordin, Liara and/or Miranda as support. But like I said, it really wouldn't work that well without Shep.

Jack alone is enough. She's been in plenty of prisons.

Garrus, he has proved to be a great leader while leading his Merc squad on Omega. The only reason his squad died was because he was betreyed. Same thing could of happened to Shepard VS would be my second choice.

Since we're using football analogies. If Shepard is Tom Brady, Manning, or Brees...

Garrus = Ben Roethlisberger. He is excellent at what he does, and has a knack for doing the right thing at the right time (Dr. Chloe Michel merc shot in the medlab.) He's hard to take down (Recruitment mission), and he'll make you pay if you don't gameplan accordingly. Hall of fame material, but sometimes holds onto the ball too long (bad decisions sometimes, Omega). You can't argue with his record, he's a winner.

Jacob = Eli Manning. Obviously he has a strong skill set. He has come up big in the past (Saved EVERYONE on the Citadel in ME: Galaxy), but he always has doubters because they want him to be someone he is not. He's a laid back, stable, nice guy. He doesn't have the "fire" that Ben or Peyton or Favre had, but if he's your leader, you could do a lot worse. He's a leader, just not the rah rah type. People will follow him.

Miranda = Phillip Rivers. cocky, Brash, and sure of herself. None of that can take away from the fact that she is that good. She may not have met as much success in the playoffs (combat experience) as the others, she has all the tools. Not the easiest to get along with, but you can't deny that if you made a list of other leaders, she would be high on the list. She has what it takes to go all the way.

VS = Kyle Orton. For a long time, they were stuck in the shadow of others simply because they weren't given a shot (Ashley because she is a Williams, Kaiden because he has been stuck in the shadow of Shepard). Every time they got a chance, they did well, but they always knew that they were a backup. When certain circumstances unfolded (Shepard's death), they were bumped up to first string. No matter what, people always compare them to Shepard, but they have done quite well for their-selves in his absence. A winning team, good stats, and pro-bowl material. They had arguably a better year than he (with Shep dead, they were promoted, and number 1 guy/gal for the Council). Good starter. You can do worse.

Short version
Zaeed = Favre (You might win, you might lose. He'll score for you, but he might burn you. Still he's a legend)
Jack = Vince Young (has all the skillset, doubt she'd make a good leader)
Mordin = Donovan McNabb (seasoned vet who knows what he's doing. Still might have a little left in the gun

Can't think of any analogies for Liara or Wrex

Never thought I'd see the day when Miranda is compared to that cocky bastard in San Diego Phillip Rivers. But in all honesty your comparisons make sense. Though I'd say Shepard is closer to Ray Lewis or James Harrison. He just likes to dive in head first and hit things as hard as he can and give fiery speeches to pump up his team. Not exaclty a tactician like Brees, Brady, or Manning.

Miranda as the leader with Legion as the XO having someone with an intellegent and fast thinking mind to give advice is needed. Then Garrus in the third place.

Ugh, I can't believe anyone thinks GARRUS is a good leader. Hey Garrus, look over there! *guns down rest of team*

I'll stick with loyal, dependable, non-badassssss folks like Kaidan, Ashley, and Jacob. Liara maybe.

I'd prefer Miranda or Liara while I do personally like the both it's not a popularity contest, in the long run those are the two I think who will get the job done and have the best overall subset of skills , leadership ability and drive to complete the mission.

I really haven't seen anything to show me why Shepard is such an amazing leader, the game just keeps telling me that and people keep listening to me no matter what I do.

If Shep has the War Hero background, in it is his history.

Despite being massively outnumbered by the Batarians and their merc and pirate hirelings, Shepard rallied a ragtag force that included untrained civilians to save the human colony of Elysium. The defense of Elysium ranks right up there with Thermopylae.

Also, Shep's leadership abilities are also on display through his victory at the Battle of the Citadel, and if he successfully pulls off the suicide mission in ME2 without a single casualty.

Though I'd say Shepard is closer to Ray Lewis or James Harrison. He just likes to dive in head first and hit things as hard as he can and give fiery speeches to pump up his team. Not exaclty a tactician like Brees, Brady, or Manning.

Not true for a War Hero Shep, or for a Shep that got through the suicide mission completely unscathed.

In fact a case could be made for Shep being one of the best small unit leaders in all of human history, if he makes it through the suicide mission completely unscathed.

Wait...Ashley...and Jacob? When Ashley was encountered she had lost her squad and colony to geth and when Jacob is encountered (the head of security) he is hiding, alone behind a rail after losing control of his entire space station. If your reason for not picking Garrus is because he lost his team on Omega, then I'm not sure you can support Ashley or Jacob. Image IPB

At least Garrus only lost a squad, and that was because one of it's members was manipulated by his enemies.

Garrus he has been in the military commanded there and in C-Sec not to mention he was a possible candidate for Spectre training before. Also he led his group of bandits in Omega and was successful until every merc group targeted him, but still held his ground. On top of that in ME 2's ending he was one of the characters that if you chose him to lead the squad and he had loyalty every squad member would survive, which goes to show he's a leader I think only one other person in the ending could command the squad without getting anyone killed.

I was going to say Zaeed, but he always seems to be the only one to walk away from his missions.

I'll say Miranda, or Ashley. Or Shepard could name both, and watch them fight it out. In mud, if possible.

Hey, if my Shepard's going to die again, slip into a coma or otherwise sit around jamming medi-gel into an incapacitating wound, she'd damn well going to do it happy this time. None of that "asphyxiating in the cold vacuum of space" nonsense.

Ashley ran away and let her squad get slaughtered to save her own skin on Eden Prime and Miranda expects respect without having to earn it so no one would follow her. So Garrus would have to do if my Shepard got taken out.

I agree with TexasToast712 about Miranda, she's too arrogant to strike me as ever being a good leader. The best leaders are constantly learning, her cup is full so she cannot fill it. I would imagine her plans would be inflexible and she would not be open to advice from others who likely have varied experiences far beyond her own. She may be intellegent and disciplined, but she does come across as very much tunnel-visioned.
