Right now we have 5 squad members confirmed (whether they are permanent or not I will not speculate).

The VS
Liara
Vega
Tali
Garrus

Now while you can't do anything about the first 3 you can kill off the last two in the SM. The question is would you and who will Bioware use in their stead?

Now before the Talimancers and Team Dextro goons go apesh*t about killing Tali or Garrus I am just asking who would you replace them with?

E.g. In my "realistic" playthrough  I sided with the Geth and Tali took a rocket to the face as a result. Now do I get to pick her replacement (i.e. Miranda) or does Bioware go, Oh no you didn't here is Reegor with the near identical dialogue lol.

No, it's not. At first, I thought it was too, but the OP brings up an interesting querry.

Who would replace those two if they somehow died in your playthrough? It's interesting. I guess they'd have to have a backup NPC fill in.

But I think that they would be different, like Wreav and Wrex.  Wrex and Wreav could be the leader of the krogans, but they have very different agendas. I think Bioware could really explore options like that.

Tali and Garrus would more than likely follow Shep without question because they've been through a lot together. But a filler NPC might have differing motivation.

They should be replaced with no one.

There are consequences for getting your team killed.

It has already been proposed: When Tali and Garrus die in ME2 they will be replaced with the female Turian Gali and the male Quarian Barrus...

No seriously, I'm still hoping that nobody is permanent in the sense that you can pick whoever you want and that losing people in previous games limits your choices... No replacements and still a ful crew.

I would like anyone who got people killed during the suicide mission to suffer for it by not making them avaliable squadmates in ME3. Just have empty slots. I have some bad playthroughs with dead squaddies and I wont whine if Bioware does this.

I doubt the VS, Vega, or Liara are scripted to die.

I'm still not convinced that Tali and Garrus are actually permanent. I think it's likely that we'll get a Kingdom Hearts-style setup, with ME2 team members joining you for the appropriate mission. If that team member is dead, then you're stuck with using two team members who are always alive.

I'd kill a team member for meta-gaming reasons only if their being on the team would prevent others I like better from being on the team.

As a rule, everyone who's potentially on the team is better alive. Even those I don't like, like Garrus

I also agree with jtav. That setup sounds very likely.

I'd like to replace Tali with practically anything else like a rock or a sock puppet. But seriously death should have consequences as in no specific replacements for death squad mates. If they're dead this should mean you just have fewer resources and options available to you. That said I wouldn't say no to an Elcor squad mate as the new alien in me3.

I'd sacrifice Garrus and Liara to the devil in exchange for Gavorn and Aria.

<snarky on>They won't be killed, no matter. Shep will feel the loss so greatly that s/he forces Miranda to restart the Lazarus project to save them. Liara gets pissed about it because she no longer feels any sense of exclusivity to having Shep saved in the same manner, and becomes a Justicar. Miranda feels a loss of her importance so deeply after re-animating Garrus and Tali, that she leaves the crew, usurps her father's empire, and becomes a facsimile of Darth Revan. Ashley finds the re-animating process disturbing, akin to blood magic, becomes the team religious leader and takes on the role of blessing the troops before battles ala a Chantry Priestess. Joker falls for EDI and merges with her, ala Anders and Justice. Zaeed and Jack become space pirates after discovering time travel, bringing back Isabela to the future. And Kasumi gets stuck in her LI's virtual love world, lost forever being chased by Donovan Hock. Shep ultimately gets new squad members that have been made into tranquils that won't get into emotional side ventures who then remain focused on the tasks at hand.<snarky off>

No, seriously, they would be dead, it should remain that way, no retconning.

I thought that they confirmed Tali and Garrus, so I think the only kingdom hearts-esque action will be with other characters, like wrex. That being said, depending on who it is that would really ****** me off. I can see someone like Mordin or Samara taking the fight elsewhere, but a paragon romanced Jack wouldn't leave and Shepard is Grunt's battle master. I really hope the ME2 crew doesn't get axed completely in favor of the ME1 gang.

As someone stated this isn't a 'Kill xyz because they are the ghey' it's more of a discussion on what Bioware will do with dead squad members.

I agree with most of the people here that if someone dies then you are SOL. But do you think Bioware will replace them with someone to fulfull that role.

For Example in one of my most enjoyed playthroughs Jack, Thane, and Tali are dead. Thane is imo a throw away character and not relavent. Will Bioware leave that archtype character void or replace Thane with his son.

"Oh hi Shep I'm Thane's son. He has been training me since the Collector base and I want to join you lolz."

Or Jack dies and is replaced by some sassy b*tch from the Ascension program. Or Tali is replaced by Kreegor during Geth/Quarian negotiations.

The game is 9 months out and only speculation helps pass the time but I was just wondering what those who have played a great many Bioware games thought.

Imagine if they did the same thing that they did to Leliana, I mean you could see her body with no head and she'd still appear in the end of DA2, that sucked, I hope they never do that again in a game.

I agree with that.  You are stuck.  No replacements.  There has to be consequences to losing people during the SM.  Just replacing them with random people is just silly.  Make people pay for their poor choice.  Like the guy that only  has two left.  I'm curious on how that playthrough is going to pan out.  I know that person comes here because that is where I read it at.  Hope he posts something about it come March.
