Right now we have 5 squad members confirmed (whether they are permanent or not I will not speculate).

The VS
Liara
Vega
Tali
Garrus

Now while you can't do anything about the first 3 you can kill off the last two in the SM. The question is would you and who will Bioware use in their stead?

Now before the Talimancers and Team Dextro goons go apesh*t about killing Tali or Garrus I am just asking who would you replace them with?

E.g. In my "realistic" playthrough  I sided with the Geth and Tali took a rocket to the face as a result. Now do I get to pick her replacement (i.e. Miranda) or does Bioware go, Oh no you didn't here is Reegor with the near identical dialogue lol.

If he starts hitting on my male shepard He will take a rocket to the face...

aren't you a big man who's secure about his masculinity!

As someone stated this isn't a 'Kill xyz because they are the ghey' it's more of a discussion on what Bioware will do with dead squad members.

I agree with most of the people here that if someone dies then you are SOL. But do you think Bioware will replace them with someone to fulfull that role.

For Example in one of my most enjoyed playthroughs Jack, Thane, and Tali are dead. Thane is imo a throw away character and not relavent. Will Bioware leave that archtype character void or replace Thane with his son.

"Oh hi Shep I'm Thane's son. He has been training me since the Collector base and I want to join you lolz."

Or Jack dies and is replaced by some sassy b*tch from the Ascension program. Or Tali is replaced by Kreegor during Geth/Quarian negotiations.

The game is 9 months out and only speculation helps pass the time but I was just wondering what those who have played a great many Bioware games thought.

Except Kal can be dead and Kolyat in prison...then what? Replacements for the replacements?

Then you fail. The correct answer is yes. If you're like me then it's any means neccessary to save the galaxy (or Fereldan). You'd rather toss away you're own life just because you wouldn't sacrifice it to save everyone elses? So it's if I am going to die I'll take everyone with me?

Why bother going to any lengths to save the galaxy to only stop short once you have to give it everything you've got including your life?

I'm fond of the SOL take on this issue.

I'm curious as well, because I've killed off Tali in a few playthroughs. Would the fill-in play, in theory, the same role? Because if Garrus and Tali are gone, only Kaidan has any tech abilities in that group, which would alter gameplay. (IIRC).

Unless Shepard is an engineer.  Then I think you'll have that covered.  I lost Tali and Mordin on my first playthrough.  Tali because I picked Samara as squad leader(what was I thinking) and Mordin died holding the line.  That will be my first import too.   Good time are a coming.:o

Call me selfish, but unless it's my own child (which I don't have btw) Im not going to "sacrifice" myself. Fail? No, Im a survivalist. There is a difference. You fail though, by being a sycophant. At least Im honest, your not.

Yes, well... it would still effectively screw over any person not playing an engineer, which, if memory serves, is not one of the more popular classes.

It's not a huge deal to me; I've got one save where only Thane, Garrus, and (by accident) Legion survived, so I'm prepared to have a rather slender crew waiting for me in one import. :P

True.  I do enjoy playing as a engineer, but my favorite class is soldier.  Mattock + Adrenaline Rush works great.

They should be replaced with no one.

There are consequences for getting your team killed.

This. The apparent mantra for 3 seems to be that different playstyles shouldnt be 'punished' by people missing out on content, which I think is bull****. If someone didn't bother to keep Tali or Garrus alive there shouldn't be extra NPCs to replace them. Its too much work and that means that those that DID keep them alive miss out on whoever replaces them.

Your choices should have consequences, otherwise there is no point and a main selling point of the game becomes meaningless.

Killing characters off should be rewarded with a punishment, not replacements.

Even better! You will NOT get to pick a replacement and NEITHER will bioware go 'here is Reegar'. You'll simply play with less total squadmembers in ME3. I'm fine with this as BioWare shouldn't reward someone for killing squadmembers on purpose by adding replacements in the next game. And since you can keep all ME2 squadmembers alive regardless of whether you're a renegade or paragon it won't cause any 'punishing renegade/paragon' discussion either. Perfect!:D

I was able to kill off all the aliens on my crew in the SM. I am just left with a Human crew on my evil shep. quest and I wish I could keep it that way... and stay true to Cerberus.

Why?  There needs to be consequences to ones actions.  Killing off people is an action that needs to have consequences.  No if and or buts about it.  It would be very lame if they just give you random people to fill those spots.

I think having both Tali and Mordin die during the SM is going to make it hard in certain situations.  Which I did, but not on purpose.  I've only killed off people on purpose here lately and that is because I want different things going on in different play throughs.

Is that a euphemism?

But seriously, they aren't going to replace characters with their rough equivalents.  Think of how much work they already have to do to make this game happen.  Do you really think they'll make new characters that they'll have to add in and at least some lines of dialogue?  With the cast they already have, I'm surprised they even have Vega as an option, but I suppose if you managed to kill off most of your crew they needed someone else in case you're not a fan of the VS or Liara.

I wouldn't go as far to call it punishment but would instead call it a less than perfect ending. I would prefer to not have replacements and if there are replacements for key cutscene events they are not as effective as the original.

Now keep in mind (imo) there aren't many people that are critical to the overall story. While I'm no writer I am pretty sure Garrus, Kasumi, probably Zaeed, Grunt, Jacob or Miranda, Jack, and Thane could die with no real consequences.

While Tali, Samara, Mordin (saee below for Mordin), and Legion are essential. To expand; Tali convinces the Migrant Fleet to help despite having to work with the Geth. Samara speaks as a Justicaar to the Asari leadership to go along with Shep's plan (whatever that is). Legion convices the Geth collective to assist the meatbags. And then there is Mordin. Mordin helps with the fertile Krogan female to secure (I assume) the Krogan aid. But what if Mordin is dead. Is that entire mission now unavailable or does Mordin's nephew (the one with tenure at the Salarian university) show up and help Shepard.

Just food for thought.

Fake Edit: I say Jacob or Miranda are expendable because if one lives then the survivor can say, Oh it's this way to the secret Cerberus base that has the TIM and the Reaper tech that is controlling Cerberus.
