while other classes need "powers", Soldiers use guns. Lots of guns.

Hell yeah, soldier all the way.

Almost all my playthroughs are with the soldier class and I rip through enemies with all those beautiful guns.

If soldier has acces to adrenaline rush AND the Mattock (ME2 version) the soldier will still be the strongest, no need to worry, if not, well....

Engineer is the best class hands down. (In ME2)
25% reduction to upgrades via class power.
Overload knocks down shields, kills synths, and overheats weapons.
Incinerate burns armor, stops health regen, panics organics.
AI hacking and Drone drop aggro.
The only problem is with barrier (a rare protection) but that is what the pimped out SMG for cheap is for.

Actually while the "best" class is subjective, the top two "broken" classes in ME1 were the Adept, and the Infiltrator.

Adept made enemies worthless, they can't attack, they can't move, the only problem was enemies going through walls.

Infiltrator is a tech class (so no need to worry about hacking or electronics) with immunity. Nuf said.

It all kind of blends together in ME2, however the soldier is among the best in easier levels. (The mattock loses some of its effectiveness in insanity. Low ammo and lots of protection on enemies do not mix.) However the engineer class is practically broken. You are set up for just about anything the enemy can throw at you, and if you bring legion and tali with you.... drone city.

Seriously how can you complain. Soldiers get this and Adrenaline Rush. Not to mention we even have Frags in ME3 to really blow stuff up. Nobody can outshoot the Soldier.

I'm an enhancement shaman in WoW, so one day I tried to look up new gear to write up my Firelands gear wishlist to be submitted to my GM prior to the recent update. I ended up landing in a thread started by some other enhancement shaman who proceeded to cry about how our spec is ruined/shot to hell by Blizzard again because of some trinket or something equally stupid.

He went on about how we'd be useless again, blah blah blah. Amazingly, my world did not come crashing down post-patch and I'm doing just fine as enhancement despite that other enhancement shaman's evident state of panic/hysteria. Somehow, I doubt that soldiers have anything to worry about in ME3 either despite whatever changes might happen in ME3.

Who touched Sacha?!?

It's easy to forget, but soldiers also have significantly more base health than any other class. This goes well with hardened adreneline rush.

Hopefully it remains a class exclusive then, I'd hate to see how broken a Sentinel would be with one.

Haha yeah - really there needs to be more things in the game (other than flamethrower guys and krogan) that CQC doesn't always work on, especially with all the new melee attacks. Gotta keep things interesting :)

Enhancement Shamans are worthless in long raid encounters. We have cleared everything hard mode and always ask our shaman to go elemental. Good burst damage but over time, they simply dont come anywhere close to keeping up (even if the shaman is top notch). Hell, even our guild (Vodka) wont touch them any longer because they simply are worthless as it stands.

No matter what they do with it, Soldier will always remain the most boring and dull class in the Mass Effect trilogy in my opinion.

You miss the point of the whole discussion. Its not that the soldier class will suddenly be useless, every class can kick ass pretty hard, even the "useless" engineer. No, what the complaint about is how the soldier will stand out when its powers are used by many of the other classes?

Adrenaline rush? Inflitrator gets that for free every time they look down a sniper scope. (and it doesnt use cooldowns! Plus they can be invisible while doing it!)

Ammo powers? some of the other classes get them too. So not a unique thing to the soldiers.

Weapons? We get to use all of them at once, so we won't be hurting for ammo at least... however every class can use every weapon. So the impact is lessened. Especially since weapon mods are used by everyone. (A good thing! Just doesn't help the soldier stand out) So what if the soldier can use every weapon? Now you can be the infiltrator who can use an assault rifle.... While invisible! Or a sentinel with the mattock... invincible and powerful!

Fortitude? We have no info, so we can't compare it yet. (Suspecting it will be a generic defensive boost, hoping I will be proven wrong in a good way)

Concussive shot? With the new info that ammo power will add effects to it, looking hopeful to be a poor mans incinerate, overload, etc. Good in a pinch, but will it stand out? Will have get further info.

So far it looks like the soldier gets the "little bit of everything" approach. They get some of everything, but no standout wow power of their own.

Also I do not mean to sound whiney, I love soldiers don't get me wrong. I just want the soldier to have something to help them standout from the crowd, and it seems to be really hard to do that.

Soldier gets all weapons. Adrenaline Rush is back. The most health and weapon damage out of all classes. Concussive Shot is a Soldier exclusive. And this round it will be effected by ammo type.

Incendiary = Napalm Grenade
Disruptor = EMP Grenade
Cryo = Cryo Grenade

What more can you want? I'm actually exited about playing a Soldier this time. Might end up being as fun as the caster classes.

The only thing a soldier has over any other class is more health. Other than that it is all subpar.

the one thing i like about the adrenaline rush that the infiltrators don't is the fact that it can be used with every weapon and not just the sniper. I just finished my second playthrough of ME2 this time as a soldier (first was the infiltrator) and honestly i found myself using the assault riffle almost the entire time while occasionally switching to the shotgun for real close battles.

I'm hoping the whole every class can use every weapons doesnt ruin the soldier too much but i doubt it really will. Especially if they can improve adrenaline rush in some way and maybe add a little bit more to the class over all

The granades are universal like in ME1. They are not a class power.

I think engineer is the most useless class. Soldier however is the best for both games so far and will no doubt be the same in 3.

I started with Soldier, but I find Engineer much better and more fulfiling. Particularly in ME2. If you're playing high difficulty though, it's harder at the beginning than once you've got your stats up.

Incinerate for armour, health.
Overload for synthetics, shields.
AI Hacking for geth/synthetics (and combat drone, which I never really use)
And you can add one power (if you've played through before) Warp Ammo works really well. Reave isn't a bad option either. Both work well against barriers. Also cryo blast can help when overwhelmed.
In that way, you've got almost every conceivable enemy branch covered.

It seriously helps though if you have the Kasumi DLC, because that SMG is much better than the rest. Even so, I usually can kill most enemies while barely firing a shot.

Engineer is the least unique class. In ME2, two squadmembers have your "unique" power. What a disgrace.

It's not a competition between classes. If you like the Soldier, then play as a Soldier. It's a single-player game; they don't have to balance it perfectly. All they have to do is make all classes fun.

Loving the Soldier because of Assault Rifles shows some level of ignorance is likely.
In Mass Effect 1, they're the class that can wear Heavy Colossus X armor and regen their HP without mods... effectively becoming a walking tank on any difficulty, and able to take rockets to the face on Insanity with minimal damage. The Assault Rifle has a terrible DPS, meanwhile, and only worth it for it being easier to max out than Pistols (if you look at where the unlocks are, you'll have 8 points left to master Pistols, but only 4 points left for Assault Rifles), and better heat management for modding.
In Mass Effect 2, the Soldier is the class with the highest HP, and the ability to play half the game in slow motion, and during said slow motion they have a +100% (or higher) damage boost and potential 50% cut in damage received.
However, regarding Assault Rifles there is one perk: No other class can pick up the Revenant... which once upgraded in accuracy becomes a monster. No other class will be able to carry the Revenant over to ME3, so even if it could be used by a Shep of any class, it'll prolly only be temporarily from picking it off a dead guy.

But in my opinion, the Soldier is bland as hell.
Shoot it 'til it dies.
I prefer having powers at my disposal, or if I'm going to be a shooter class, I want to do crazy things with them that no other class can pull off *points to Vanguards*.
