Well the most important factor in supporting an army is food. Surely the darkspawn armies rely on some type of mass produced sustenance to feed themselves. I thought they might farm that red growth that infest kal'hirol and and broodmother lairs, it mkes sense, oghren makes a comparitive comment how its worse than the festive soup he usually gets.
what do darkspawn eat?

Actually, they only eat flesh for the lulz. They supposedly are supported and sustained by the taint. It's also the source of their magic.

In the Cadesh Thaig, you see quite a few speared fish near darkspawn camping areas. So I figure in addition to sentient flesh, they also eat a variety of fish.

I don't think it's "for the lulz." Gaider said "if they appear to be eating, it's for other reasons that aren't clear." That doesn't mean there isn't a reason. They just don't need to eat for sustenance.
They could be eating as an echo memory of being human/ dwarven/ elven, or as a way to demoralize their enemies, or so that they can regurgitate later for some nefarious purpose (brood mother
). I would default consider it to be purposeful but unexplained, rather than just thrown in.

I wonder if darkspawn need to drink water, or to breathe. Could darkspawn be drowned?
