They note at the beginning that the rankings aren't in accordance with their review scores, just a subjective ranking of what their editors feel are the best modern games.

Then it actualy makes sense.

Ya know Bioshock was fun... It really was. Great Even. But as with anything when it comes to video games, EVERYTHING is subjective. Look no further than these boards for proof of that. I have a wide and varied taste in games, YET as the person I am I LOVE wrestling games... hell i love wrestling. Yet I also love RPGs, TPS, FPS, Simulation and Strategy games.

Xenogears is one of my favorite RPGs of all time and I can still play it to this day, I also love almost every wrestling game... and GTA series games.

Point i'm trying to make Polka... not all tastes are the same nor need they be. I wouldnt expect you to like every game I like (and I love games that are terribly reviewed because they're fun to ME). Just like IGN is free to make their own lists independent of all their readers personal likes and preferences.

I forgot GTA 4. That game was far superior to ME2. If it was opinion then it shows that they don't have very good taste in games. Did Mirror's Edge even make the top 100? Did Shadow of the Colossus make it? LocoRoco? Final Fantasy XII? I think those games would be considered "modern".

"I would do it for free" proof that 2K is paying you!!! See I can make up lies about you like the ones you say of game reviewers who were all bribed to give ME2 amazing.

Bioshock was good but I found myself rushing to finish it, not because I really wanted to see the end but rather because I found that I was getting bored. No likeable characters, basic enemies that became overpowered at the end of the game. And if you didn't like the final boss in ME2 I don't know how you could have had any respect for the final boss in Bioshock. The art direction, music and plot were all good but I found that while it was good maybe great it was not excellent.

But I and IGN probably shouldn't have different opinions than yours it will break the universe.

Yeah, **** this.I rarely agree with anything IGN puts out anyway. Come back when Giantbomb, GI or Destructoid have something like this.

Most people probably disagree with this but I think Enslaved Odyssey to the West should be in the top 100 especially with some of the ones they included in their.I mean Warhammer Dawn of war and I understand Pac-Man is a classic, but that's just it it's a classic. a flashy remake doesn't really deserve to be a modern game.

Clearly the words of someone who hasn't actually played Pacman CE :P
I liked Enslaved, it had a brilliant character driven plot, but the gameplay was too flawed to get it a spot in the top 100. I didn't like the pointless twist at the end either.

As for the actual list, the top 2 are well deserving of their spot. Now I'm gonna have to play Bioshock and Half-Life 2 again, I've got the itch. Better make room for some Fallout 3, Civilization IV and Peggle too.:pinched:

Really? You don't think IGN would have to be compensated in some way to somehow rate ME2 as the best "modern" game over literal masterpieces like BioShock??

ME2 wouldn't be my #1, but it'd sure as hell be ahead of BioShock.

I wonder how much IGN was paid to rate Mass Effect 2 as the best??

Mass Effect 2 was likely not even the best game of 2010. ME2 is a decent game but it doesn't deserve to be compared to games like Assassin's Creed, BioShock, Okami, Mirror's Edge, Fallout 3, Gears of War (a superior third person shooter) and especially the first Mass Effect and many other games. It probably doesn't even deserve to be on that list at all. Even the uninspired Super Mario Galaxy is probably better.

It really is an insult to videogame fans.

Your tinfoil hat is showing.

BioShock should have been ahead but I still feel that ME:2 is third behind Fallout. BioShock was beautiful and wonderful but lacked replay value beyond twice in my opinion (once to save little sisters, once to condemn). Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3 allow me to play endless hours and choose as I want and be who I want in more subtle ways than choice A or choice B every time. Still love BioShock to death though.

You are right. MW2 was one of the worst games ever. A true nightmare and they call the #14 best. They don't seem to know much about decent games.

The list is for the current generation of consoles, and PC games released in the same timeframe. That makes Mirror's Edge and LocoRoco the only eligable game you've listed. Mirror's Edge is on the list.

I see. I only saw the relevant years 2005 or after. Well Mirror's Edge is better. So is Okami and that was remade so it counts and Biohazard 4 too.

MW2 wasn't even in the top 20, COD4(MW1) was #19, and it was by far the best COD IMO, and a fairly good shooter. (Dedicated Servers, Modded CAL/MLG servers, etc)  Halo Reach getting #14 was fan service though.

TW2 being that low is bad though. I agree. Did DA:O place on the list anywhere?

Well, I admit it, very long time ago, when I saw Jessica Chobot and Adam Sessler praising ME 2 in Sci vs Fi document (www.youtube.com/watch), I was not sure if G4 and IGN will be unbiased.

But than I tried ME 2 myself and was totally blown away by it. Definitely my No. 1 from the provided list and one of my all time favorites.

As for the question, whether IGN is biased / was bribed or not with respect to ME, I don't think so. Like I said I was impressed by this game as well and I was not alone. In most of last year's readers' polls in various magazines like Gamespot, IGN, G4tv, Golden Joystick (the largest polls in the world), etc. Mass Effect 2 dominated the competition. In comparison with both, it's contemporary competitors... and previous winners.

It needed the biggest and most popular e-sport (Starcraft 2, which is excellent as well of course) and the most popular Youtube reporter (Huskystarcraft) to defeat Mass Effect 2 in some polls. Yes, Mass Effect 2 is / was connsidered the best by that many people.

It's been a long road
Getting from there to here
It's been a long time
But my time is finally near

And I can feel the change in the wind right now
Nothing's in my way
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No they're not gonna hold me back

Cause I've got faith of the heart
I'm going where my heart will take me
I've got faith to believe
I can do anything
I've got strength of the soul
And no one's gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star
I've got faith
I've got faith
Faith of the heart

Yes they are video game press Mr. Kusy... that review games based on OMG... Opinion of said reviewer.

I'm not saying that IGN reviewers have to be objective because review is not objective from deffinition. I'm saying they are just making **** up as they go in a way so obvious it hurts. Look at their score for those games, IGN gave Portal 2 a score of 9.5 on x360, PC and PS3 while Mass Effect scores 9.5 only on PS3 (with 9.3 on other platforms). It seems weird that they make a ranking (as IGN as a whole, not single reviewer) and they place a game few good places above another game they gave a bigger score (again, as IGN as a whole, not a single reviewer)... not to mention Red Dead Redemption that scored even higher (and RDR:Undead Nightmare that they rated 10/10 on all platforms).

Correct me if I'm wrong but something smells like **** here.

Not really. A review is just one person's opinion, while this list was put together by several people. People also put to much emphasis on the exact score when sometimes the reviewer has to give out a number arbitrarily. Really, what's the difference between a 9.6 and a 9.3? You can't really describe how much better 9.6 is than 9.3, but people will point out is that Game A is .3 higher than Game B. That's the reason IGN only grades on .5 intervals now (btw ME2 was graded before this change and Portal 2 was graded after, so you can't really compare them exactly anyway. How would ME2 be graded under the new rules?), and some sites try different ways to grade games, e.g. 1up's ABC grading. And how people can feel about a game can chage between when they first play it and how they feels months later.

This is why I don't put too much emphasis on exact scores when deciding which games are better. Of course, I feel the same way about numbered rankings for much of the same reasons, but hey, they're fun to read.
