Microsoft holds the rights to the first ME.
This. Since the PS3 is a Sony product, Microsoft will never allow ME1 to be ported to it.

In order for EA to "buy" the rest of the publishing rights you need Microsoft to be willing to sell them. There is no way that Microsoft will relinquish whatever rights that have over ME 1 to allow a PS3 version, it just will not happen.
Now the PC version is a different matter, Microsoft obviously have a vested interest in the PC platform since the majority of PC's run their operating system. However even then they only allowed a PC version 6 months after the console version.

It's money better spent than buying a PS3. Xbox Live alone has so many more features that it makes buying the Xbox over a PS3 a great deal. Game marketplace, video marketplace, Netflix, huge beneit. Honestly, I stopped buying borderline movies and started streaming them on Live if I was sure I'd only watch it once. Over the lifetime of the X-box, the money that's saved me has paid for the console many times over.
Plus, X-box doesn't leave your data sit in plaintext with unsanitized database inputs.

You have to pay for Gold membership to access Netflix, and the rest of that stuff. Not the marketplace, but all other features. Not sure how many PS3 owners are willing to do that, but I do know many that have both and they don't do the online on the PS3. They prefer XBox Live even if they have to pay.Gatt9 wrote...

When it comes to that, you really do get what you pay for. With PS3, you pay nothing and you get hacked and down for well over a month. XBox hasn't had that issue, even though some people have had their accounts hacked, but the Live service never was shut down because of it.

Getting ME1 on the PS3 would be great, but it's very unlikely to happen, not impossible, just unlikely. It's a very big thorn in Sony's paw, and great leverage for Microsoft. If they do sell the rest of the right it'll be so far down the line it'll only be the old cans who would be interested any more as Microsoft would only sell if they felt they had no reason to keep the exclusivity any more.

Mass Effect (1) was THE Console LAUNCH game for the MS Xbox360. ME1 was co-developed with MS and BW CORP on prototype hardware. ME2 was made on a 2nd gen engine with EA owning BW (now just a division of EA). Mass Effect will never be on any other platform other than Xbox360 & PC both of which run MS operating system software, period.charmingcharlie wrote...

And ME1 wasn't even released via Microsoft's Games for Windows platform lol. Sure MS needs to be willing to sell the rights, but it can be easily fixed the moment MS wants something from EA. You think Kinect for ME3 was BW's idea? Of course not. MS came to them. EA might as well have secured full publishing rights to ME1 in exchange for Kinect deal.charmingcharlie wrote...

So I really enjoyed Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 but now I feel like there is a gap in my life! I really want to play the first! No XBOX, laptop is inefficient and I'm down on my luck. Any chance of getting 1 on PS3? I assume not but it was done for 2 sooooo............
Unless microsoft either sells the rights or goes out of business....either of those being a snowballs chance in hell.

Wait till Holiday season. Chance that the ME1 + ME2 Collection will come out by the end of the year is very high.
Funny how people just make up scenarios in their head and post them as if they're reality.

If we look at the (2+ million!) sales of God of War 1 + 2 Collection released for Holiday season right before March premiere of the final game in the trilogy and how EA packed everything-DAO for Holidays right before DA2 release, I say it's very likely, it's basically tons of $ lying on the street and waiting for EA to pick it up.marshalleck wrote...

Except you've just used one of the worse examples you could use seeing as God of War is a PS3 exclusive aaaand... the collection was only released on the PS3.IsaacShep wrote...

The only way a 'Collection' would be released would be for PC and 360 only.
I've got ME and ME2 for PC and the latter for PS3 as well, it's a bit sucky for the PS3 fans that have never had the ability to play the original game but I accept that it just won't ever come out on the PS3.

How is GOW's exclusivity a reason why EA wouldn't duplicate the formula that proved to work flawlessly? And they've basically did it already with DAO Ultimate Edition.Sir Ulrich Von Lichenstien wrote...

And PS3 and later on Wii U if EA gets the rest of the publishing rights from ME. From the bussiness POV, it would be dumb not to if they could port the collection for both PS3 and Wii U later on and get kazillion more times cash than whatever it would cost them to get the remaining publishing rights for ME1 form Microsoft. Not to mention expanding the franchise's audience which would in turn result in higher sales of ME3.Sir Ulrich Von Lichenstien wrote..

But that's my opinion. If a collection like that is coming out this Holidays, we'll know at Gamescom most likely.

I find it hard that you don't seem to understand the grasp that Microsoft has over the first game?
They did it for DAO because.. Microsoft had no say in DAO. That was purely an EA/Bioware game.

Do I need to remind you of the response Microsoft made when ME2 was announced for the PS3?
""With both Mass Effect titles launching first on Xbox 360 combined with
the wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today,
Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect
franchise,"
Translation with regards your idea... not going to happen. Simply because, if it was going to happen, it would have happened already and they wouldn't have needed to come out with the Comic.
