What really sums it up is that people are really close minded despite charading how they are otherwise, easy to ridicule others, easy to belittle.
If that's the trend of "posting" then I would rather do without. Not my loss. I've been in battle. I've treated battle injuries. I've pronounced dead bullet to the head suicides. That's why I turn of "Gore" whenever I have the option. That's just sick. Try to accept diverse opinions, it really really helps understand how short sighted you can be.
If you want to feel like a man by twiddling on your game stick, fine by me. Just don't go around abusing other people for your pleasure.

Me: <posts funny pic> But seriously, I don't think it would be a good idea, partly because it doesn't fit the character, but mainly because there's plenty of technical issues to resolve, which I don't think BioWare can handle. If you can't make it aesthetically appealing, then there's no aethestic appeal to it.

You: "Try to accept diverse opinions, it really really helps understand how short sighted you can be. If you want to feel like a man by twiddling on your game stick, fine by me. Just don't go around abusing other people for your pleasure."

Or were you not talking to me in particular?

no, not in particular. obviously, not at all.

no, I don't think any amount of modding will probably incorporate a skirt in combat. I don't think it's realistic either.

I'm not going to be a naysayer. If you want iron skirts, then why should I be the one to say "no?"

Sure they might seem impractical, but there are ways around that. Look at female Quarian suits, it still has a somewhat feminine appeal to it and remains practical for combat.

Coolies. Just looked a little weird, going off at what I thought was a reasonable post.

Meh, forums do that to you.

Stop trying to feminize the only decent strong female video game character we have left. You bastards already ruined Samus, don't ruin another for me. :(

The way you say that makes it sound as if strength is an exclusively masculine quality and that feminine characteristics are the opposite of strength.

I wasn't aware "feminine" meant being utterly subserviant to a man, having a glass-fragile pshyche, depending utterly on men to tell you what to do, when & how, disturbing 'daddy' issues... just to a name a scant few... all of which describe the most recent incarnation of Samus.

People weren't balking at her appearance or (god forbid) her absurd teeny voice... but the fact she behaves as a whipped, obediant slave and servant to a man ... this, a woman who has defeated countless evils and armies in the galaxy... perhaps the most powerful warrior / mercenary / soldier in the metroid universe... and she behaves in the way some twisted men fantasize their women to behave.... namely being 100% utterly obediant and subserviant.

Play the most recent Metroid game and you'll actually understand. The writers / game designers all but raped the Samus character (yes... I just used that word, as that's how it seemed to me when I played it... She was not the strong minded, independant, determined, free willed, focused woman she should have been... she behaved more like a broken sex slave).

EDIT: and now I'm way off topic so I'll shut up... sorry but that damnable game and their damned designers really pissed me off <_<

I think you misunderstood me. I was mostly interested in what you meant by the first part of your post.

Basically this whole thread strikes at the fundamental debates of:

1. Style vs practicality in outfit design

and

2. What does a feminine identity really mean?

LOL. Catsuits are one thing but an armored skirt. Really?

In all fairness an armored skirt can be reasonably implemented. It just wouldn't look much like a skirt.

Practicality debates aside, a battle dress wouldn't exactly fit in a sci-fi setting. I'll pass.

i agree..."armored skirts" even thow such thing existed in the past....its purpouse was not to make the warrior look girly...the idea is to protect his tenders.... no place for such a thing in the future....

if you whant armored skirts.. ask bioware to add a mod tool and make them yourselvs

Girly would be ok. By that I mean she should have her own animations and not walk and run like a rugby player or sit like one for that matter. I don't want anything stupid though like long hair and hostess make-up and stupid clothes that aren't fitting with the whole Alliance Navy image. But animations would be neat....as those were the days.

...and armored skirt? That sounds odd.

Well if femshep's running around in a metal skirt I want my dude Shep to have Sephiroth hair. Fair is fair.

Aw hell yeah. Skirts in battle, metal skirts. Sounds so damn cool. I love how Mass Effect is made by a Japanese company.

Is it wrong to like Lighting for being such a resolute character?  I didn't care much for FF13 but I really liker her character.

I love her. She isn't afraid to deck a guy six inches taller than her, or admit she's wrong. <3

Awesomeness.

In all seriousness, an armored skirt would not fit in this setting. However, how about more casual skirts? Would that solve your problems OP?

Shepard can kick ass no matter what, let the gamer decide their own looks and don't belittle them for it. They paid their own money, their Shepard can wear two chocolate donuts for a bra for all I care.

As a woman...I say NO! to armored skirts...the heels, catsuits and bra straps are bad enough, I would hate to see armored skirts thrown in too.

Armor skirt like:

That'd be pretty cool.  Thanks!

This would look utterly stupid and horrible in Mass Effect. I'm sure the developers won't make such an awkward piece of clothing available and I'm glad about it.

well...  option to go no-bra then?

btw I like the other suggestion of kilts, but broadsword is silly, let us have instead a weapon like that staff from Andromeda

edit: sorry for doublepost

Aw hell yeah. Go Jack Churchill on the Reapers' shiny composite sterns.

Or a suit. Thane gets to go around killing things in a suit, so by Zod why can't Shepard do the same? Don't say he needs armor to protect him from damage and the vacuum of space, the most squaddies like Jack and Miranda need to survive is apparently a breather mask and the clothes on their backs.

Seriously though, nothing against the... "feminization" of FemShep, but... skirts and combat heels are just highly impractical by any standard. Unless you're a Celt or something.
