Apparently this is a common fault with XBox users, but I'm on a PC with patch 1.03.
I can delete the n & call her Maria.

Then you have two names so what are you complaining about? :P
I'm sorry but I can't help you, but I guess it would help anyone who can help you to know if the problem only exist for female character or if it exist both female and male characters.

Never had that problem with either gender or any class. Might try cleaning your registry and making sure your OS, DirectX and any other drivers are up to date. That often solves a multitude of problems.

Thanks for the input.
I'm on a new Z68X-UD7 with a clean instal of Win7 SP1 all updates & run registry checker.
GTX 580 with 275.33 drivers & latest DirectX drivers.
Never tried to play as a male. but it is the same for female mage or rogue.
As dinria said, it's not that much of a problem, if I wanted to do a 3rd play through I can just delete the a & call her Mari.

I have that same problem. My first female character, a warrior, had her name changed during character creation without any problem... the second one I tried to make, a female mage, can't be changed from Marian. I'm playing on a PC with patch 1.03 as well...
Some help? Closing the game and restarting it has had no effect...

First, there is a thread with posting guidelines pinned to the top. Things you wouldn't immediately think could cause problems sometimes do, which is why all the information is requested.

Second, do you have any anti-malware, anti-keylogger type software installed? I have seen reports of similar problems in other games including DAO with some of the Norton security software and with multiple layers of protection software causing issues with keyboard control (they sometimes see the keybindings protocols as keyloggers and disable or reset them without warning). The game may simply not be recognizing your input in certain areas.
