I just got DA ultimate, installed the game and started playing lelianas song, my mouse contrls work fine but my keyboard controls don't recognize the proper keys as per default settings. I press W under keybindings and it shows up as the number 4. I can't use my keyboard controls to control the game C,J, W,S,D,A, all those keyboard controls try to activated a special ability instead of moving my character or activating my journal and character screen. Now the funny part is I have played the standard version of Dragon age and awakening for over a year now with no problem, same keyboard. I deleted my old account, and started a new one, for the ultimate version of the game, but now my keyboard controls are crazy and I can't remap the keybindings to work as they should, punching different buttons all over my keyboard seems to activate the special talents of my character, like the keyboard is limited to only activating abilities, any ideas on a fix?

You could try using autohotkey (google on it and you'll find it quick). Write a script in it looking something like this:
c::Send {c}
j::Send {j}
w::Send {w}
a::Send {a}
s::Send {s}
d::Send {d}
if the problems is that DA:o remaps the keybinds from w-->4 this should be a functional workaround however if the problem is that DA:o really thinks that the input "w" should be used to cast the forth spell on the actionbar then it won't help. Even if it won't help it will help you to locate where the problem lies.

from what I've gathered is that in game, letters are recognized as numbers, but even the quickbar 1-0 is still a little off from what they should be, I even tried a different keyboard, a gateway and a dell, same results.

I've actually managed to research and fixed the problem.....
come to find out, I just installed norton security suite, as well as comcast constat guard protection through my local internet company, come to find out both programs have anti-key-logger programs that were fooling one another, I uninstalled the comcast constant guard protection, and the problem went away. Found a guy with the same problem on the tom's hardware forum.
