I have a strong feeling that Gillian would be a potential squadmate for ME3..

the books/comics that comes before the games usually have some effect on the new game..

e.g. both Acension and Redemption have some parts of the storyline interwined in ME2...

n since Decption is about Gillian avenging her father (together with Anderson and Kathlee), it must have happened not long after retribution since the reapers are coming and there is not much time left...

unless she failed/died in the book coming out in Jan 2011, she would be an ally to Shepard because her ultimate goal is to kill TIM.... n TIM is an enemy in ME3... as we all know the key to winning any war is to be a friend to your enemy's enemy...

n ME always like to give the squad 1/2 powerful biotic mates...

any tots? or this has already been discussed?

Only if she's voiced by Summer Glau. Make it happen Casey Hudson.

But then they'd have to cancel Mass Effect 3

This is the only condition under which it would be acceptable.

Otherwise, no, absolutely not.

I haven't read the books, but isn't she some kind of super human biotic? In which case, wouldn't that be kind of redundant?

First we had Kaidan whose special training and implant made him a ridiculously strong human biotic. Then we had Jack who was experimented on to be a ridiculously strong human biotic (not to mention Miranda who was genetically engineered to be a really good biotic). What's the point of mentioning biotics as one of humanity's weaker points when just about every biotic we meet is 'the best human biotic ever!!11'? :/

I don't think Jack will appear as squadmate (she has one the highest chance to die in ME2) and Kaiden (if alive) would only be temp. Miranda is unlikely to be a squadmate in any form.

so they would need a potential powerful biotic in ME3...

n therefore, it is also sort of spoiler for Deception because TIM is unlikely to be dead...

Kaidan/Ashley were confirmed as perms. Liara is purely biotic in both games and she's returning. With all fuss about Jack's redesign I think Jack is returning, too (and she's relatively not in high priority - Mordin, Tali and Kasumi would die HTL faster). So new pure biotic? Highly unlikely. New teenage pure biotic without special combat training? You must be kidding me.

We have one. Liara is guaranteed.

Also, Jack is a favorite of the devs apparently, and is getting a significant redesign. In my opinion that's a good indication that she's going to be around for more than one mission.

but I don't think Liara will be in for long... she is the new SB... surely she is busy gathering info and such... doubt she has that much time saving humans...

She is a perm squad mate.  This has already been confirmed.  I have a theory to why.  If you read the report after the Shadow Broker, TIM knows Liara is the new Shadow Broker, and he is also keeping an eye on Liara's relationship with Shepard.  Which does ticke me off.  That is none of D-bag's business who Shepard's friend/LI is.  Which makes me think that since Cerberus is after Shepard, they will also go after the base at Hagalaz.

I think we'll have to wait and see what happens in the new novel, Deception.

I don't think Gillian would necessarily be a squadmate, though. The ME team generally prefer to keep the stories of the books and games fairly separate (allowing for the occasional minor reference or crossover) because the books are generally regarded as 'canon', whereas the games' narratives are malleable.

Karpyshyn and now Dietz are building up a significant mini-universe of characters and settings in the novels, I doubt they'd risk any future ventures starring Sanders or Gillian by inserting them into the main game. Not to mention that 90%+ of the people who buy ME3 will have never heard of Gillian Grayson. It's possible, but not likely, in my view.

but as the SB, she have access to many info... it wouldn't make sense for Shepard to still ask around for info when he has a walking broker beside him... it would take the RPG elements away...

Imagine..

Shepard>> I need to find XXX
Liara>> We can just go to my computer and I would plant a false info and the person would be dead in 10 minutes...

Gillian will be 12 years or something like that during the events of Mass Effect 3
I do not think she will be on your squad, maybe you'll meet her, but she will probably not be on our squad because there is a next novel coming up with Gillian as main-protagonist..

There was good picture of TIM which is relevant to this thread. Sadly I cannot find. Whatever. Restored it.

Anyway, no. That's Liara's place.

@dantares83 does Illusive Man knows where is SB base?

Also squadmate won't work the same way as in previous 2 games.

I think every squadmate but VS and Vega can leave Shepard at some point.

Actually TIM gave that information to Shepard and Liara, without that they wouldn't find previous SB.
I'm pretty sure Liara is instant, everything shows on it.

I haven't read, or intend to read, any of the books or comics and would like to keep their special characters away from ME3.

I believe that Kai Leng is coming into the story but, as far as I'm aware, he's just a very nasty assassin and therefore relatively easy to put into ME3 as one of the many people out to kill Shepard.

She is 12 during Acension... and that is almost 3 years b4 ME3, so she is almost 15-16 at ME3... still a teenager but seeing that she had already killed when she was 12, there is no reason for her not to do it at 15-16...

Squadmate, no chance in hell. Cameo/Easter Egg, very probable for her and Shepard to cross paths if both are looking for TIM. But like I said before, I only support if Summer Glau does her voice acting.
