In KotOR it was Trusk, republic soldier - K.I.A.
In Mass Effect 1 it was Jenkins, aliance soldier - K.I.A.
In Dragon Age: Origins it was a many people and most of them - K.I.A.
In Mass Effect 2 it was Wilson, Cerberus scientist - K.I.A.
In Dragon Age 2 it was Carver or betany - one of them K.I.A.

So, the main question is "who would be a temporary squadmember in Mass Effect and how much longer he/she stay alive?"

If it is some kind a tradition - it is a stupid tradition and i do not want to see it again. I think a many people will be agree with me.

If it happens, I wouldn't be annoyed but it's not important to me since, with those characters you mentioned, you don't spend enough time with them to like or dislike them.

That's BioWare constant reuse of narrative elements for you; introducing someone and then immediatly killing them in the hope it'll convey that this is serious business.

However as far as I understand it, ME3's temp squadmates won't be a redshirt that'll join you in the tutorial sections, but simply someone that'll be available for you squad at a certain mission.

Well maybe they should name the NPC in ME 3 Kia, for K.I.A.?

The temporary squadmember is Captain Andersson and he stays on Earth to lead a "resistance" or whatever it is he will try to do... Kinda hard to figure a resistance with small arms against Reapers.

That's genius!  Bioware take note.

There are so many recurring squadmates that all apparently appear in 3 it would be a waste of time to insert some throwaway temporary squadmate just for traditions sake.

The VS gets pegged by a Reapers lazor when leaving Earth. Because nobody touches my Prothean beacons except me!

I second this.

Also, he shouldn't die. I wouldn't like that.

I'd laugh if Conrad Verner joined in like he's always wanted to and got blown away five seconds later.

Well from the demo we saw Andersson is a temp squad member at the start of ME3, he stays behind on earth (possibly to lead the resistance) while Shepard goes for help.

I cannot imagine BioWare would let Andersson die this quickly though I fully expect him to die at some point. However Andersson is too great a guy to go out in anything less than an enormous bang.

My guess is that Andersson will assist in the final mission and it'll be either him or Shepard who gets killed.

People might be able to hide from the Reapers for a while but not from the reaper ground troops (Reaperized guys and husks). I imagine the resistance tries to protect the remaining population against this.

Anderson is a temporary squad member and he stayed behind on Earth so he can organize the remaining Alliance soldiers on Earth and anybody who wants 2 fight make a resistance and lead it since he is a admiral that is a high rank and that is gud because there is people back on Earth fighting and defending it

It's Anderson, although apparently he doesn't die at the beginning, to go into detail would be spoilerish.
