I'm at the Suicide Mission now about to finish this run as an Engineer (Dominate/AI Hack focus) on Hardcore. It was a joke. I beat down everyone. So I wanna kick it up to Insanity but before I get started with that I had a few questions.
1) I have a 60 character from ME1 that I imported. For my second playthrough to get the perks of that 60 character, do I have to re-import or is it possible to get those perks with a new character? I am under the impression that I'd start at 1 instead of 5. Furthermore, do the ME1 to ME2 transfer bonuses stack with the New Game+ bonuses?
---
2) I've beat the game with an Adept (a looong time ago) and now with an Engineer. I'm still somewhat torn on what to do for the new playthrough. Soldier and Sentinel I ruled out after playing them through Horizon. So I'm between Vanguard and Infiltrator now, neither of which I've played more than an hour or two in my entire time of owning the game.
Infiltrator seems like it would play more similarly to what I've been doing already with Engineer and Adept – back ranks, picking off baddies, controlling the field, which is what I'm most comfortable with – whereas Vanguard would be a VERY different playstyle. However, I get easily flustered in the fray and I get very frustrated with deaths, which I'm sure would happen a lot on Insanity with a Vanguard. Any input here would be appreciated. I'm very torn. I love sniping in most games. Loved it in ME1. But I am really looking for something fresh.
---
3) What are the major differences between Hardcore and Insanity? Just as a general overview. More hitpoints, armor, barrier? More damage? Is that basically it?
Any information would be appreciated guys. Thanks in advance.

NG+ imports all of your weapons and armor pieces and your current level and skills. Upgrades, credits, resources and R/P points do not get imported with NG+, although your past decisions (from ME1) do.
Also bonuses from importing are per imported save. If you want to get the perks from importing you got to start a new imported game.
NG+ is a lot harder than simply starting a new game because all enemies are scaled to your level but you're left without your upgrades from the past game. Even if, for example, you want to see how your Vanguard will play from the start with the Claymore, you wouldn't know really as you'd immediately notice after taking the first shot that your gun does about 40% less damage than what it used to (with enemies' health pull accordingly very big); and therefore I say, if you want a true sense of NG+, mod the game to give access to the weapons from the start.
If you ask me I'd say play the Vanguard if you haven't yet. It has a very unique playstyle and is very fun. It's somewhat hard to get used to at first, but so do all classes if you want to become proficient when you think of it.
About Insanity I quote from the WIKI:

Insanity
- The Geth Pulse Rifle will be available for pickup
- Almost all enemies have at least one extra bar of protection that is stronger than on Hardcore
- Enemies are deadly accurate and extremely aggressive, demonstrating teamwork and coordination
- Enemies use tech, biotics and ammo powers very frequently

^ The other bad thing about ng+ is your para/ren points are zeroed out ( no import bounu ), so you have to be careful or you can easily fail some decisions. I tried ng+ with my claymore vanguard, and bear is right, point blank shot on a merc does not take him out until you get enough upgrades.

^You will only risk failing decisions if you play extremely paragade. I've done okay with up to a 60-40 split either way.
Unfortunately it's impossible to get the import bonuses you got the first time around when playing NG+.
NG+ on Insanity will also put stiffer penalties on you than any other setting so you'll probably want to think about doing missions based on upgrade priorities. Also, some squad powers like Reave are handicapped in such a way that they will not function as they did in lower settings. It's reasonable to mod the game slightly to correct this, since the modifier only needs a tweak of 1% to revert those powers to full functionality. Of course this mod is by no means necesssary.

Well, I am unable to mod the game because I'm playing on a 360 and I have a Mac with no access to the Windows OS. Moreover, I'm pretty much against manipulating games in any way. I used to use cheats a lot back in the day and I've taken a staunch no-cheating/altering policy these days.
I guess what I'll do is make an Infiltrator and a Vanguard on Insanity and see how each one goes. Would you guys, then, suggest importing my ME1 character for the Insanity run or doing a NG+ instead?

Try normal insanity first with your imported character I'd say. You can challenge yourself with NG+ later.
I personally don't like how NG+ works and don't want to play it, even though I'm used to insanity by now and feel pretty confident about it. I like NG+ as a concept in general, but I think they got the scaling wrong in ME2 somehow, and I also find it a bit pointless with the low level cap. Leveling up is a part of the game for me, even though in ME2 it doesn't always mean that much.

Well when I realized that the NG+ doesn't allow me to change my class and in fact starts me off at level 30 (I thought it came with some other bonuses like the cash and extra minerals and other such things) it was an easy decision to NOT do the NG+. So I'm going to do an ME Import and make a Vanguard or Infiltrator (still can't decide which) and go from there.

Okay so I went ahead and did the ME1 Import and I was level 60 so I had maxed Charge at Freedom's Progress and gave Vanguard a try (I test every class at Freedom's Progress). It was great. More frantic than I am usually comfortable with but there was a certain thrill to it.
Immediately after killing the YMIR (which was crazy as a Vanguard), I made an Infiltrator and did the same thing. I had Cloak maxed out (Assassination, of course) at Freedom's Progress and I went through the mission. A bunch of headshots and explosions later, I was done. The YMIR actually seemed to be harder as an Infiltrator.
The problem is, I thought they were both fantastic fun. Considering I've played an Adept and an Engineer already, maybe it's time to switch to an up close combatant, but it is also my first time on Insanity and Infiltrator is the safer choice...so...I dunno! I still can't choose!

Vanguard is the most fun ever.
