Alright, so after mutch futzing around, I have realised what I was trying to do is way beyond my capabilities, but I do know it is (at least partially) possible. Therefore, I'm going to ask if anyone in here with the skill and inclination could give this one a go:
To me, it makes no sense that spirit healer Hawke is a better healer than Anders. I therefore use a mod that removes the Vengeance tree and replaces it with spirit healer. This works gameplay wise, but is not an ideal solution. There are 3 things I'd love to do to the Vengeance tree to fix it:
1. Add "Second Chance" and "Vitality" to the Panacea branch of the tree
2. Give Anders's "Aid Allies" and "Regroup" the same stats as spirit healer base versions
3. Add the "Group Heal" and "Revival" upgrades to "Aid Allies" and "Regroup"
Anyone want to take a shot at it?

I always felt that Anders was a spirit healer, but due the his possesion & subsequent twisting of Justice into Vengeance he's lost a lot of his healing ability while gaining destructive power.
No objections to altering the skill tree to suit yourself, just thought I'd throw this in to give a (possible) lore explanation

Um... nevermind, I just re-read the second half of the OP... that's pretty much what I was going to suggest...

To me, it makes no sense that spirit healer Hawke is a better healer than Anders.
What? Other than the raw tooltip numbers, what are you basing this on?
In terms of pure healing and support, a Spirit Healer Hawke is not better than Anders. Spirit Healer Hawke can deliver a larger group heal in a single cast, but Anders heals dramatically more often (with both Heal and Aid Allies, meaning Anders also gains an identifiable increase in total healing over time with Heal when compared to a Spirit Healer, not to mention a marginal damage prevention boost with Barrier) and Hastes dramatically more often, thereby significantly reducing the length of the fight and the amount of healing required as a result.
If you're using him to his fullest potential, that is.
Resurrection upgrades don't really matter, as both Revive and Regroup tend to refresh between cut scenes anyway; there are ultimately better places to spend your points, e.g. preventing death in the first place.
That said, you'll want to be careful with adding Vitality, as it's easy to screw up the stats cooked into your save game once you start playing with passives.

A spirit healer heals a lot more damage than Anders does. I always found Hawke and Anders healed approximately the same number of times in a fight, though I admit I've never invested in the non healing part of Anders' tree, and therefore have not had the cooldown reduction.
It just makes more sense to me that Anders should be able to heal as much as Hawke can in one go. All I'd really want is to add the upgrades to Aid Allies and Revival. I could just change the stats (that much I can do), but that feels cheaty - would be better to have to pay for and apply upgrades.

This would be a neat mod.
I use one that gives Anders access to SH. He had it and dangit he'll have it again in *my* games.

Right, but only comparing Group Heal to Aid Allies, and only then comparing them in a single shot, not over the course of a protracted fight.A spirit healer heals a lot more damage than Anders does
You're asking for Anders to have the Spirit Healer tree. That's not how you phrased it, but that's what you're asking for.
- You don't spec into the non-healing Vengeance talents (read: anything other than Panacea, Aid Allies, and Regroup).
- You want upgrades 1 and 1/2 for Group Heal and Revival respectively.
- You want Second Chance and Vitality.
That's the Spirit Healer tree.
If you dislike the Healing Aura upgrades, it's much easier to remove them than it would be to futz with Vengeance.

You're right - I want to merge in Spirit Healer talents into Vengeance, so that I can use both in one game (and not have both trees in Anders' one). I use a Spirit Healer replacement of Vengeance at the moment. I want to experiment with the non-healing talents, but I don't want to give up the better healing.
I had an idea that maybe I could simply remove the healing parts from Ander's tree, and give him both Spirit Healer and Vengeance. That way, he wouldn't double up on healing spells, gets his Vengeance spells, and has spirit healer healing.
