Will you sacrifice your LI to save the galaxy? Or be selfish like Neo in the Matrix?

In The Matrix Reloaded, Neo makes the choice to save Trinity instead of saving Zion.

Neo may have been motivated by a sense of duty to his lover, egged on by his hormones.

Since it's a video game, most people would probably elect to save their LI. But, would you leave your LI to die so that millions of others might just be saved?

Not a chance. My Shep waited too long for Kaidan. The galaxy may burn ^_^

Nah, I'd leave the millions to their fate, Shepard needs some love in his life, he can't save everyone and sometimes you just have to be ''a little bit'' selfish. And why?

If I needed to sacrifice someone, I'd sacrifice myself... I wouldn't be able to live knowhing that I've sacrificed Liara, for the Galaxy is full of idiots and slavers and what else. Her life is worth more than that, mine isn't. So, no.

I'd be selfish. I'm not attached to those millions, most of whom have spat in my face. I'm terribly attached to my friends.

You know, now that I think about it... I would totally let Earth burn if it meant saving Tali :o

Er... Way I remember it, Neo's selfishness is the only thing that broke the cycle of destruction.  Had he "saved" Zion, everyone would have been killed except his disciples and the war (structured by the machines in the first place) would have continued.

But then, I've only seen the movie once.

Haha! I'd sacrifice myself before my LI. "Is that selfish or selfess?" Seriously, that question is alot tougher than it looks. This sounds like the "Nerfing Inductrinated teammate?" question. You can't save everybody and losing one could be ridiculously harder to take than losing millions.

Having said this. which choice did people make when at the space station? Did you save the people or the facility?

It would depend on a character. I have a Shep who is just about desensitized to making the tough choices so she might really sacrifice Kaidan... I have a Shep who has a "do whatever it takes" mentality and she might throw Liara under the bus... On the other hand my the most professional, the most mission-oriented engineer will not be able to sacrifice Jack.

Most of my Sheps would prefer sacrificing him/herself to sacrificing the LI, but few would watch the world burn for the sake of saving one person.

Sorry LI but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few!

indeed it has.

to OP - Neo didn't save Trinity out of duty, he saved her out of love.

me personaly?  I'd let the world burn to save someone I love.  if it were my life or his, I'd die first.  my Shepards though?  that depends on each indivudual one.  some would pull Lara Croft in "Cradle of life" and do what was necessary for survival of the many no matter how much it hurt.  Some would pull Alistair and take the blow themselves.  some don't have an LI.  some would do what they must and not feel much at all.  and a few would do like Neo.

Devon Shepard would tearfully sacrifice Liara if he has no alternative. He would rather sacrifice himself though, so if that's an option, Liara will live.
Simone Shepard would not sacrifice Liara, she would find another way.
Martín Shepard has no LI, but if Kaidan or another hot dude was an LI option, he would think long and hard about sacrificing the one bright spot in a bleak life.
Leah Shepard would calculate the probabilities, and if the percentages favor sacrificing Kaidan, she will reluctantly do so.
Ethan Shepard will sacrifice Ashley or Jack, it would free him up to pursue Miranda or Kelly.
Ashley Shepard would gladly sacrifice anyone except Morinth. She'd kill them herself if she had to, she's rather kill-happy.

I use duty and love interchangeably. To me, caring for a loved one is a duty in itself.

It would depend on which of my 20+ Shepards I'm playing. Some would and some wouldn't.

Have to be careful with all this sacrificing. In the end it'll become redundant and overdue, since Shepard has already died once. I also find it curious, how people seem to demand that certain characters has to die in Mass Effect 3. :S

heh.  I have a duty to pick up the poop after my dogs.  I don't do it becasue I in any way enjoy scooping the poop, I do it becasue it has to be done, plus there's a fine involved.  it is my pleasure and my desire to love my dogs.

its not a duty to care for a loved one when you want to anyway.  I'm not sure if I'm explaining it well, but there's a huge difference between doing something becasue you must and doing something because you want to.  sometimes doing something you must also becomes something you want to do, but its cumilitive rather then interchangable.

My Shepard would do it gleefully. Not only that, she'd facilitate the sacrifice at gunpoint if need be. Victory by any means necessary was her thang. What can I say, she wasn't a nice person. :P I don't see Shepard as my character or a reflection of myself, so there's no guilt involved.
