Will you sacrifice your LI to save the galaxy? Or be selfish like Neo in the Matrix?

Thats not a choice I would want to make, but yes if it came to it I would. Needs of the many and all that jazz right?

Yes, yes, and yes. Sacrifice the few for the many. Hence why I, even though I'm a paragon, always sacrifice the hostages in Bring down the Sky. In DA:O I did the ultimate sacrifice as well as I wouldn't want to go all that way to slay the archdemon only to have a chance that it might live.

I'd Def save the galaxy....besides Miranda was genetically engineered so its not like she couldn't be made again besides that Cerberus could revive her or anyone not like they don't owe you...

I'll be super selfish paragon who will sacrifice civilizations  I don't like to keep liara and tali alive while at the same time save the civilizations that I like.

Saving your LI instead of the whole galaxy obviously doesn't make any sense. Unless you know it's all going to hell anyway, your choice won't matter, and you'd rather have one last kiss before you both die.

Sacrificing a whole planet or a fleet for your LI?
Let's see: Kaidan would hate my canon Shep for this sefish act. Which means she wouldn't get to share the rest of her life with him anyway. She'd have to be satisfied with knowing he lives. Feeling unbearably guilty.
Doesn't sound like a good choice to me!
On the other hand, letting Kaidan die would feel like saving him on Vermire was for nothing. I'd hate that, too. Which is why I hope we'll not be forced to make this decision.

I, too, would rather sacrifice Shepard for her love. That, too, would make Kaidan unhappy for the rest of his life, but it's the better choice.
Funny, the only solution would be Kaidan dying at Shepard's side *g*
That's actually not that bad a thought, now that I think about it... I'm sure it would look really cheesy, but it's a possible ending I'd actually consider.

I'm afraid of BW forcing Garrus to die a heroic death. As tearful as this would be, I'd rather have him die than Kaidan...
I want to be able to save Garrus. My Shepard would die for him, too.
She'd die for everyone on her team.

Only my one renegade Shepard wouldn't die for anyone, not even his LI. And he'd sacrifice his LI for millions, since he's not THAT attached to Ash and Miranda anyway.

Definitely. ^_^

But assuming that it's not the whole galaxy at stake - it would make no sense at all to sacrifice that for your LI - here's another question: which LI would (not) be angry at you for sacrificing a few million lives for him or her? No doubt *everyone* would at least be a little uncomfortable with the possible exception of Jack, but who would be angry to the point of considering a break-up?

Firmly in the break-up camp:
*Tali
*Ashley
*Kaidan

Firmly in the non-break-up camp:
*Jack
*Miranda
*Jacob

Could go anywhere:
*Liara
*Thane
*Garrus

I'd say put Thane and Garrus in the ''break-up camp'' too, especially considering the fact that Thane is, you know, dying.

No, nor should you need to. Even if the Earth and however many other planets were to be be wiped out, there should be enough ships and resources still around to make a counter-attack viable. Which is probably what we will be doing anyway, albeit probably on a smaller scale rather than the one I have in mind, which is to seek out and destroy all the Reapers.

In The Matrix Reloaded, Neo makes the choice to save Trinity instead of saving Zion.

Neo may have been motivated by a sense of duty to his lover, egged on by his hormones.

Since it's a video game, most people would probably elect to save their LI. But, would you leave your LI to die so that millions of others might just be saved?

I didn't interpret Neo's actions as selfish. He was in love and just revealed the history and the future of the human race under the control of the machines. His love for Trinity gave him a defiant decision to rebel ultimately against the machines as appose to the other "Neo" in the past cycles of Zion, who only cared for the survival of the human race even if it was in servitude and blind.

In Mass Effect's case there is no cycle for humanity. If we lose in ME3 the best we can hope for is that our species would have the same fate as the Protheans. My decisions would be my own and as defiant against the Reapers as possible.

Oh... but I would choose my LI

If the circumstances are the same as they were in the Matrix, where the Many have a fighting chance instead of survitude or extinction. The ultimate goal of the Reapers are to either anialate or enslave all organic life.

The only reason I would save the Many over the One (LI) in this case is if it was a quick decision. One or the other, only one has a 100% chance of survival. while the other has none.

Its a philosophical discussion in my eyes
one of freewill
and another topic of ethics

Neo at the end of the Matrix Reloaded was left with both Zion and his LI, all alive and the fate of the human race was in their control and not the machines.  Defiant to the end

@Scorpion101 Correct me if Im wrong but Neo dies at the end, so does Trinity...

It depends on my LI..

I would never sacrifice Liara, she brought me back to life and was with shepard through thick and thin, time I returned the same. rather die myself
I would be very thoughtful if I would sacrifice Jack (her LI plot has way too much potential in ME3)
Would definately sacrifice Miranda.
Tali.. I dont know to be honest.. I see her more as a really good and loyal friend.

Jacob, definately. THE PRIIIIIIZE can burn.

Thane, I doubt I'll have a say in the matter, we all know him, he would do it before we had a chance to react!

Garrus, way too badass to die like that. Wouldnt suit him at all.

Correct, however Neo and Trinity died on their own terms, as free thinking people struggling for the peace, survival and freedom of there species.

Yes, I would sacrifice my Shep's LI, but only once. After that I know I have failed in some point and I would make sure to find a way to avoid the whole situation in the future games.

If it's purely from RPG point, then no I wouldn't sacrifice LI. We would both die at the same time, fighting to the bitter end.

I would sacrifice my LI Miranda because she has a younger copy of herself that I can go tap.
