Eventually in our younger years, we come to explore a virtual experience that completely captures the ideals of what a game should be in our minds, and transforms us into full-fledged video game addicts. This isn't necessarily a "favorite game when you were young?" thread - What game made you decide that gaming had become a great interest/hobby/disturbing obsession for the rest of your life(or at least a very long time)? Which was the turning point between mild interest, and immersed in these worlds?
Looking back, it's incredibly difficult to pick from the list - Diablo, Mario Bros 3, LoZ: OoT, etc. Although many had formed my perception of what's the "right" kind of game for me, one appeared out of the rest - Myst. I think it was atthat point I realized more of the adventure-y games with mystery and puzzles were what I was looking for. It had an intriguing and potent atmosphere, plenty of mental challenge from the puzzles(though riven certainly wins in the challenge department), and had me drooling afterwords for other first-person point-and-clicks like The Journeyman Project.
What game defined your childhood?

Without going too deep into the coffers of my memory, I think it would have to be the Atari Star Wars arcade game, particularly the sit-down, cockpit version. I felt like I was part of the Rebel Alliance, flying through the trenches of the light-line Death Star, ready to save the galaxy. It was probably the most immersive arcade game for me at the time.
Also, The Legend of Zelda on the old 8-bit NES. I knew then that I wanted to play RPGs - have a sword, navigate through dungeons, and chase fairies.

I never played many games in my childhood simply because I liked to do other things.
If I can still name one, though, it would be Super Mario BROS... just love that moustache.

My childhood was defined by my large family and our religious activities. The corruption of video games did not come till significantly later.

ActRaiser for the SNES was the game that got me into gaming. I had played games before but it wasn't until ActRaiser that I got wholly immersed into the world inside of a video game. Playing as God, killing monster and demons, protecting you people, going into hell itself to take down the big bad. Even now 15 years later It's a game that makes me feel a wide spectrum of emotions. It's still my ALL-TIME favorite game.
p.s. The BEST Stage 1 music in any video game EVER (I will fight this to my grave)

Oregon Trail on the Apple II.
Well, that was my intro to gaming, anyway, back in middle school in 1983. I saw the potential, and thought "someday games are going to be great". I also remember playing games on a teletype.

Hmm....nothing really, I just did it to have something to do. Me and my friends spent as much time outside as we did gaming. In fact I game now more than my youth as people around here are too lazy to do crap, or ****s want to buy up all the land and stick no tresspassing signs up, etc.
But if I had to pick would be Goldeneye 64, multiplayer was a blast. Short of that I'ld say the N64 in general. That was the first system I actully bought and had alot of games for that didn't come form a cousin or a pawn shop. Back when I was younger I played with games, but it was rare or when it was late summer with 95-105 f temps. The 64 though, that was the first system I actully sat and played.

I remember that! If you didn't play as a Doctor, you'd lose half of your crew. Lol!

Metal Gear Solid set me on my path of becoming a pretentious twit who spends all day analyzing video game narratives. I thank the gods every day, lest I might have found something more productive to do.

Ultima V a beautiful tale of the dark half and moral absolutism set in a world you felt was worth fighting for, ignited a love of literature and contemplation in a simple farm lad and may have spoiled me for less ambitious games.
