None of them, thankfully.  I did play a lot of Frogger and Space Invaders when we got the Atari.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 would probably top the list. It was the first game i remember having a major love for and to this day i think it;s one of the best games ever made. It just defines for me everything a good should be it's incredibly fun to play and addictive and has great music.

Others include Splatterhouse ,Street Fighter II and Smash TV which me and my friend spent years trying to finish.

I was too busy scrambling in the mountains to play many games then. Some of the earliest that really left an impression though were Metroid and Diablo.

Going beneath that chapel, each level different along with the monsters, till you got past brick and mortar and it was tunnels in the earth with lava pits. That was so cool. The intro cinematic to Diablo is burned in my memory.

I'm afraid there's more than one.

 KIRBY SUPERSTAR - SNES
 Donkey Kong Country 2
 CRASH BANDICOOT 1,2 and 3
Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time

Without going too deep into the coffers of my memory, I think it would have to be the Atari Star Wars arcade game, particularly the sit-down, cockpit version. I felt like I was part of the Rebel Alliance, flying through the trenches of the light-line Death Star, ready to save the galaxy. It was probably the most immersive arcade game for me at the time.

Also, The Legend of Zelda on the old 8-bit NES. I knew then that I wanted to play RPGs - have a sword, navigate through dungeons, and chase fairies. Posted Image

both of those were epic! thanks for bringing back memories.

I spent a lot of time (and quarters) in arcades playing the following games as well:
Space Harrier
Xevious
Wizard of War
Qix
Dragon's Lair (it was playing footage from a laser disc!)
Spy Hunter
Gauntlet ("the Elf needs food badly")
Joust
Ghosts N Goblins
N.A.R.C. (the first game where you can steal drugs and murder innocent people)
Burger Time
Rampage

Super Mario Land for introducing me to the medium.
Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer for making the interest stick.
Metal Gear Solid for making me consider it as a means of storytelling.
Final Fantasy IX for convincing me.
The Longest Journey for going deeper.

That looks pretty similar to The Black Cauldron, which was a game I spent a lot of time playing as a kid.

I played many games that made me feel frustration, confusion, or a sense of satisfaction. "Final Fantasy II" on SNES was the first that made me feel genuine happiness at the end. My experience was so profound that it kindled a love of role-playing games that endures to this day. It was FF2 that taught me games could be more than mere entertaining distractions.

Eventually in our younger years, we come to explore a virtual experience that completely captures the ideals of what a game should be in our minds, and transforms us into full-fledged video game addicts. This isn't necessarily a "favorite game when you were young?" thread - What game made you decide that gaming had become a great interest/hobby/disturbing obsession for the rest of your life(or at least a very long time)? Which was the turning point between mild interest, and immersed in these worlds?

I don't know, Final Fantasy was probably the first game I got immersed in and spent hours playing, but Planescape: Torment was the game that made me see the medium as art and not just entertainment.
